An Intimate  French Revelry Wedding on Boyd Lake

7/2/2018

We were so proud to be a part of this celebration of love and commitment between Pat and Tracy in their Boyd Lake home this past Saturday.
My Big Day was asked to help coordinate an intimate wedding for Pat and Tracy who wanted to make sure that their closest friends and family had a taste of Tracy's French family background.  We came up with a 'French Revelry' style day for the couple!
Picture
While the weather didn't fully cooperate, this couple was cool and calm, and kept a focus on what was truly important!
Picture
The colors chosen for the wedding were a white base, with tons of POP! Burgundy, reds, pinks and greens warmed each room. Sprawling vines added an earthy feel.  Lace and Lilies in Fort Collins did an amazing job transforming the home!

To make a French Revelry meal complete, you need a very special menu and multiple courses!  Taste Local in Loveland, CO did an amazing job with the menu selection, presentation, and authentic interpretation!
Picture

And what multiple course meal would be complete without a wine pairing?  Our sommelier friend, Paul, hand selected multiple wines to pair with each course. He educated guests on the background of each wine and why it pairs so well!

While we didn't get to celebrate out on the deck - looking out on Boyd Lake, Flexx  Productions did provide rentals perfect for some shade on a sunny deck, all of the tables, chairs, linens, gold flatware and more!

Of course, we wouldn't get to post such lovely photos without the permission and talent of the lovely Kyla with KJean Photography!  She is always a pleasure to work with and such a professional!

Congratulations to the latest happy My Big Day wedding couple: Patrick & Tracy!

How to Organize an Eco Friendly Wedding

6/26/2018

Picture
It’s no secret that planning a wedding can be stressful and trying at times. However, it can be even more complicated for the eco-conscious couple who want to host an earth friendly wedding. Suddenly, the happy bride and groom are faced with a variety of choices and, more often than not, will discover it isn’t alway easy being green. Suddenly, we are forced with the dilemma of choosing convenience over more sustainable items due to cost or time.

Thankfully, all is not lost.

Couples can still enjoy the wedding of their dreams with a little creative thinking. Yes, it’s possible to organize an eco-friendly wedding that gives you all the “feels” without breaking the bank or your principles. Afterall, we want our relationship to be the item that lasts for years down the road, not the trash leftover from the wedding.

12 tips on how to organize an eco-friendly wedding:

Start planning early. Depending on where you live, it isn’t always possible to walk into a store and purchase green products. Don’t wait to the last minute if you want to organize an eco-friendly wedding and buy items in bulk to cut down on costs and unneeded packaging. You need to start now and allow plenty of time to locate or order items you want.

Locate the perfect venue. Not all venues are created equal and this is especially true when it comes to being eco-friendly. Before booking or putting down deposits, look for a location that can host the ceremony and reception in one place to reduce driving. Also, consider the natural lighting and how much input you will be able to have over the food and products used.

Purchase recycled paper invitations. When choosing invites, look for eco-friendly versions made from recycled materials. You can buy a variety of high-quality products that feature handmade paper, paper with seeds inside that can be planted, and so much more!

Go digital. Ditch paper invites altogether and use digital options for inviting people to the wedding, reception, and even for RSVP’s.

Buy local. Reduce your carbon footprint by hiring local vendors to buy local products and services. Also, purchase in-season produce and foods to add regional flare.
Picture
For flowers, pick organic or upcycle your own. There are a variety of eco-friendly options available. If you can’t find organically grown or sustainable flowers that are in-season, make your own from vintage fabrics or old books. You can also throw the bouquet and choose potted plants!

Embrace reusable table coverings. While it’s tempting to get plastic tablecloths that can be rolled up and thrown into the trash, keep things classy and eco-friendly with cloth or reusable table coverings. Many venues may already provide this option, but you can always buy your own or borrow from friends and family.

Find something borrowed. Rent or borrow reusable centerpieces, decorations, and other big ticket items. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel for each wedding and it makes financial sense while being better for the environment.

Go vintage and buy used. Instead of buying all new items that come with packaging, hit garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, and online resellers first. You can also repurpose items your family already owns for the wedding for one-of-a-kind items. Look for ways incorporate old doors, Mason jars, containers, bicycles, feeders, wedding dresses, lace, fabrics, and more on your big day! This will keep items out of the landfill and give your wedding personality for pennies on the dollar.

Ditch the disposable silverware and table settings. Go old school and pump up the glam by using real plates, glasses, and silverware complete with cloth napkins. By saying no to the plastics, styrofoam, or paper products you will be eliminating these one time use items from heading to the landfill. If you don’t want to hassle with dishes, but want the convenience of disposable items, you can find disposables made from rice, wood, and potato products. These, unlike plastic, can be composted or dissolve naturally over a short period of time.

Get lit. Many couples love the ambience white light provides at their reception, but this trend often involves a multitude of string lights and numerous outlets which require a lot of energy. Instead of buying any old strings of lights, look for LED options featuring Energy Star ratings to save power and prevent unneeded energy use.

Donate leftover items. Many of us overplan and find ourselves with extra decorations, flowers, food, and more. Others would love to enjoy or use this surplus! Instead of trashing extras, consider donating your extra resellable items to a charity thrift store, giving flowers to a hospital or church, or ask about donating leftover nibbles to a mission or food kitchen.

Advice on Picking the Perfect Wedding Venue

5/8/2018

Picture
Picture
Every couple wants to create the ideal ambiance for their wedding. Choosing the perfect venue for your wedding and reception is all about location and your personal preferences. Your venue should complement the theme of your wedding and speak to your love story, faith or maybe even your passions.

Some religions state that the couple should get married in their place of worship. So religion may be the main driving force in choosing your wedding venue. But even if you plan to say “I Do” in a place of worship, your reception venue can be somewhere unique.

Couples who are open to alternative settings for their vow exchange can and should think about unique venues like museums, parks, botanical gardens or even the beach (if you’re on the coast). Think about how the venue will photograph, and how the location will look as a backdrop.
Of course, you also need to consider the guest list. Is the location easily accessible for guests?
What about parking?
And public restrooms?

When looking at alternative locations, couples should take all aspects of the venue or site into account. As for choosing the reception venue, an entirely unique location may be selected. While some couples exchange vows and hold their reception at the same location, others choose to have their after-party elsewhere.

Here are a few tips to decide how to choose the ideal locations for the vow exchange and the reception:

Make sure the locations are close.

If you’re getting married on the beach, consider reception venues that are nearby.

Look at hotels, restaurants or other sites for guests to gather after the vow exchange. Some hotels on the beach also offer all-inclusive wedding packages. So you can have your ceremony near the water and the reception indoors…or even on the patio!
Picture

Picture

Budget is everything. Before you even begin looking for the perfect wedding site, you need to understand your financial bottom line.

That beautiful cathedral might charge more than you can afford, but your local family church may allow you to host your wedding ceremony for a nominal fee if you’re a member.

The money bottom line also speaks to your reception venue. Yes, that grand resort may seem like the picturesque place to host your guests, but you cannot spend the entire budget on just the reception!

Ask about the site rules and regulations.
Some venues may require you to use their on-site catering or may stipulate what you can or cannot bring on site. Ask about any rules and constraints...you may even want to inquire about any limitations on décor.

If the venue is a closed space, and you’re an allergy sufferer, you also may want to make sure your florist steers clear of
flowers that aggravate allergies (like daisies or sunflowers).
Check the reviews.
If you’re not planning to marry in a house of worship, and you’re looking for a unique venue, always check the reviews before committing or forking over a down-payment. Read all the reviews and then tour the location.

Ask for recommendations.
If you hired a wedding planner, don’t be shy about asking for site recommendations.
Talk to your planner about your personal preferences and be open about your budget; your planner likely will have some great suggestions.

Think about a home-based ceremony.
If your budget is tight, you could consider hosting the ceremony in your backyard. Or in the backyard of your parents’ house. You’ll need to be sure that the space can accommodate your guest list, however.
Picture
Picture
Choosing the right wedding venue is all about finding the destination that strikes the right note. Your ceremony location should speak to your story, personality and even your passions. If the two of you love the outdoors, consider hosting your nuptials at a park or on the beach. Some museums and historic sites also may be open for wedding events. Know your budget before exploring sites, and always read reviews of venues before committing. No matter where you plan your big day, just remember that the vows matter most…not the location.

A Creative Way to Celebrate Valentine's Day In Northern Colorado 2018

1/27/2018

Picture
Valentine's Day 2018 is just days away... and you might be fretting over what to do this year to show your love for your one and only.

The My Big Day team has put together a list of our personal favorite ways to celebrate Valentine's Day. Feel free to borrow any of our ideas!

Picture
Christine:
Being an event planner, I start planning for holidays MONTHS OUT. A few of my favorite things...

1) Purchase matching Valentine outfits and a sweet book for my twin nieces and ship on Feb 1st!

2) Buy Valentine's for the neighbor kids and kiddos in my son's class for him to give (this year is chocolate covered pretzels and sweet little cards)

3) I get a BIG HEART for my parents from the Loveland Rotary  (I make it a scavenger hunt) Look for "In love with you since '72 D+N" over by Lake Loveland!

4) I get a couple cards for my husband - one to hide in his work bag so he finds a little surprise, and another 1 or 2 to give at other times. I also gift him a sweet treat of some sort.

5) My Big Day sends out Valentine's to many of our clients and partners. We create them, stamp them, and send them out through the Valentine Re-Mailing Program in early February!

6) I send out Valentine's to family members through the Valentine Re-Mailing Program, and often send a handful of the Official Loveland Valentine's Cards that you can buy around the city.

7) My husband and I either cook a nice dinner at home, or go out to a local restaurant. A few of our favorites:  Slate Italian Eatery, Starlight Dessert Bar, Taste Local, Fresh Plate Eatery, Bann Thai, the Himalayan Bistro, or Hearth.

8) Planning the Valentine's Day Group Wedding of course!

Picture
Lynzee:

My favorite way to spend Valentine’s Day is out on a trip discovering new places with my hubby!  Sharing new experiences is a great way to bond!
Picture
Carrie:

As a parent of young children, getting time away to celebrate a holiday built on romance is difficult.  I have found the best way is to include my two boys in the celebration.  I usually prepare a candlelight dinner where the kids get to drink sparkling grape juice out of the "grown up" wine glasses, and we dine by candlelight.  Sometimes we have super fancy chicken nuggets and mac and cheese - the main course is always chosen by the kiddos. Our schedules are always so busy so it's nice to have an evening to sit back with a special dinner together.
Picture
Heather:

We love to celebrate Valentines each year by going to Estes Park and go snow shoeing. We then head back to Fort Collins and eat dinner at Bisetti's. Then we go for a long stroll in old Town.
Picture
Kathy:

Valentine's Day has never been a big holiday for us to celebrate but it always gives us a reason to do a date night.  We like to find a spot that is not a normal place for us or for others so we look for a hole in the wall place that is unique and cozy.  This way we stay away from the crowds and we can have some quality time together.  Celebrating each other and our love is something we try to do as often as we can.  We love to stay connected and continue to build our relationship as we grow old together.  We try to strengthen our marriage by remembering this scripture:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
Picture
Katie:

Plan in advance... I love to make reservations at the Loveland Chophouse (4th Street) and get a nice steak dinner and fancy wine!
Picture
Randi:

My favorite way is to make a movie fort at home and watch old classics.
We fill the fort with snacks and chocolates and roses. Add some cocoa and my loving partner.

Jen & Tone's Estes Park Wedding

40.3395° N, 105.5734° W Something very special happened on this spot!

If you look this location up in your smartphone, you will likely find a picture of love - the love between Jen & Antonio!

In reality, these are the coordinates for the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, and it was the beautiful site for the delightful reception celebrating the marriage of our clients, Jen and Antonio Garcia.
Jen is a close My Big Day friend, and we were ecstatic to be a part of her Big Day!

The day’s celebrations started in a cabin, aptly named “Blessings” on the YMCA site.  Family members and the wedding party, met there to prepare for the nuptials at a local Catholic church, Our Lady of the Mountains, as well as to gather to surround both Jen and Antonio with love.  There were pictures, primping, hugs, and mimosas.

After the beautiful ceremony, guests were invited to gather in the large ballroom on the YMCA site.  There they were served delicious drinks at an open bar, as well as homemade appetizers and snacks while they waited for the wedding party to return from a quick after ceremony photo shoot.

The evening was full of good food, drink, and entertainment provided by Suit & Tie DJ services.  The highlight of the evening had to be during the speeches when Maid of Honor and Sister of the Bride turned her speech into a rap, complete with background singers.  The crowd was enthralled as she “rocked the mic like a vandal”!

The decor that the bride and groom chose for their reception site was full of personal and familial touches.  There was a memory table filled with photos of family members and important friends who had passed.

Their guestbook was a beautifully honed piece of wood with their wedding date and coordinates for guests to sign.  They had a date jar and more photos of special dates in their relationship on display as well.  It was very evident that the couple’s family and friends were a very important part of their relationship and life together.

We absolutely loved being able to be a part of this couple’s big day - the fact that Jen is a close My Big Day friend made it even more special and fun!

10 Bridal Style Trends for 2018

1/4/2018

A guest blog by our friends, MyWedStyle.com
Picture
For brides who love fashion—and binge-watching TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress—wedding dress shopping can easily be the most exciting part of wedding planning. What’s not to love about fifty shades of white satin, tons of tulle and every kind of lace imaginable at your fingertips? This is your chance to play the fairy tale princess and pick the dress that fits you best.

Wondering what’s hot on the runways for the 2018 wedding season (and what Meghan Markle might be sporting for the royal wedding)? This year’s bridal style trends are all about accessories and showing strategic skin.

  1. Capes: In place of boleros, bridal designers have been showcasing breathtakingly beautiful capes and capelets. This royal-inspired trend can simply brush the shoulders or sweep dramatically to the floor (Think: Sheer tulle and lace or superhero-like solids).
  2. Gloves: Short to elbow-length gloves have once again become an elegant addition to bridal gowns. Sheer or lacy gloves can be used for a subtle touch, while satin can be used to make a bold statement.
  3. Off-the-shoulder dresses: Much like the popular off-the-shoulder clothing trend this past summer and fall, wedding dresses are now sporting many lacey off-the-shoulder and cold-shoulder looks.
  4. Separate sleeves: Sleeves worn separately from the gown (or slightly attached) are big this year from many bridal designers (some have called this the “arm warmers” trend).
  5. Puffed sleeves: Believe it or not, this 80s trend has made a 2018 comeback. Puffed sleeves made of white satin or see-through tulle can add a different silhouette to the arm.

Picture
6. Bountiful bows: You’ll see many dresses with statement bows in new (and surprising) places for the 2018 wedding season. This includes giant back bows and dainty shoulder bow accents.

7. Pale blue gowns: Now you can really channel Cinderella! This year’s dresses have layers of slightly-tinted blue tulle or blue shimmering accents for an icy bridal effect.

8. Saloon-inspired dresses: Runways for the 2018 wedding season saw many different details and accessories reminiscent of an 1800s-saloon look, including high necks, lacy neck collars, delicate fringe and side ruching.

9. Drapey dresses: One 2018 trend is gowns with extra, flowy fabric that trails behind (that is often removable). Because this acts the same as a cathedral-length veil, this train can serve double duty in lieu of a longer veil.

10. Short dresses and bridal pantsuits: The 2018 wedding season holds many different options for the unconventional or non-traditional bride. Look for hi-low, tea length, or minidress options and swoon-worthy bridal pants or pantsuits.

Make Your Wedding Creative, Original & Unique with a CUSTOM Song Made for YOU!

12/5/2017

Picture
We LOVE love here at My Big Day and we LOVE everything about weddings. Often when interviewing couples we ask them to describe their vision for the day and what they are most looking forward to. Most everyone wants their day to be original, unique, and memorable!

We've worked with a gal who can give couples that original and memorable element you are looking for on your Big Day.

Meet our friend, Sharon Glassman!

Picture
Colorado weddings are beautifully unique. My name is Sharon Glassman. I create custom wedding songs that celebrate your Big Day in a uniquely personal way.

My happy, original love songs have a Colorado acoustic sound that pairs beautifully with the setting and your special wedding day.
I call my songs Smile Songs because the music, lyrics and mood of each song makes folks smile. (And cry happy tears sometimes, too.)
Here’s how I create your custom wedding song:

1     We chat in a friendly, easy way, about your life, your love story, your wedding plans. Your dreams. Anything you’d like to share and celebrate! How you met, where you got engaged. Your dog’s name. Favorite pizza. Mountain. Or flower. Sentimental is great. Serious rocks. Silly’s great, too. It’s all about you.

2     Next? I write an original acoustic song that celebrates moments. Words. Images you’re shared.

Instrumentation can be pure and simple as me and my guitar. I can also add mandolin, fiddle, bass and harmony vocals.

3     Then: I record your song for you and deliver it as a high quality mp3. You can add it to your DJs set list. Play it during your wedding ceremony. Or first dance.

I also design personalized Smile Songs wedding song posters and art print. They play your song when you scan the QR code in the design! Great event artwork and to enjoy at home.

Here are some of my love songs and singing poster designs. I’d love to work with you to create a unique, custom wedding song that sings to your heart and ears.

4 Tips to Help Choose a Wedding Theme

11/30/2017

Selecting the theme of your wedding can be one of the more difficult details to decide upon. It’s likely you as a couple fit characteristics of more than one theme. Maybe you’re a little sultry but also have a sophisticated elegance about you? Your personalities might take you in one direction but your budget may take you in another. So where do you start? Which direction do you go in? Below are four tips to help you better choose the wedding theme that best suits who you are as a couple.

Personality

First thing’s first: what type of couple are you? Maybe you consider yourself to be outdoorsy and find yourselves camping and hiking on the weekends. If so, a rustic wedding might encompass your personalities! Do you love bright, bold colors and eccentric design? Then maybe a whimsical setting is just for you! Whichever it may be, go with a theme that will let your personalities shine and it will be sure to be a magical momentous event!

Personal Style

Your personal style can have a lot of say in the theme you choose as well. If you tend to go more of a classy route, than a traditional elegant tuxedo and ballroom gown would be the right choice for you. Or maybe it’s the look of suspenders with a bow tie paired with a lace fitted dress for that fits your fancy?

Regardless of the look you choose, it is important to make sure you feel and look your best on your special day. If you’re not sure where to look first, ladies, we suggest you visit Azazie for inspiration. They have an abundance of styles and colors that will be sure to fit any theme you so desire! As for the gents, we recommend The Black Tux for your style inspiration. Their many styles of wedding suits and tuxedos will be sure to impress. They also have this helpful style guide that gives pointers for guys who, let’s face it, can use the help.

Season

The season plays a huge role on your wedding theme. For example, you wouldn’t want to have a rustic barn wedding in the winter, am I right? Some people know immediately the season they want to get married in, but it doesn’t always work out as planned. Does the groom hate the heat but the bride dream of walking down the aisle in the summer sun? If this is the case, you might need to compromise with a beautiful spring wedding to get the best of both worlds.

Wedding Venue

Choosing your venue is one of the first things you have to decide on when planning a wedding. But your theme also plays a role in location as well. First, agree on what time of year you’d like to get married. From there you can decide if an outdoor or indoor wedding would be most appropriate. Are you one to want to say “I do” in a botanical garden overlooking a pond or is it more your style to do the hustle in a grand hotel ballroom? Whichever you may decide on, make sure it is conducive to your guests.

Well there you have it folks, we hope these tips will guide you in the right direction when it comes to choosing the best wedding theme for you and your mate. But if you’d like even more inspiration, take a look at the ideas below. They will be sure to get more ideas brewing.

Which wedding theme is your favorite and do you see yourself at any?
