My Big Day realizes that when planning an event, you often have many venues to choose from!  When interviewing a venue, we can often forget to ask enough questions, or the same questions from each venue.

Below you'll find a list of all the questions you'll need when interviewing your potential event space.

Should you need a customized spreadsheet to help you with all the items that are a priority to YOU, just CONTACT US!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Drinking Game!

11/23/2013

Picture
When the holidays draw near, do you feel the need to reach for a beer?
The relatives are in town, and you are putting in your time with the family...

Well, spike that egg nog, Sparky, grab your favorite moose mug, and play My Big Day's "Christmas Vacation Drinking Game!"

What you will need for this game: an beer, eggnog, wine, or your drink of choice, a santa hat & a single shot of your choice (perhaps a lime jello shot topped with cat food).

My Big Day Drinking Rules:

Take One Drink Every Time...
  • Ellen calls Clark "Sparky"
  • Someone is wearing an ugly holiday sweater
  • There is singing or bells shaking
  • The swimming pool is referenced
  • Clark is wearing a sports team article of clothing

Additional Rules:
  • The entire group takes a drink whenever an advent calendar door is opened.
  • You must yell “Shitter’s Full!” any time you leave to use the restroom, otherwise you must finish your beer when you return.
  • The first person to say “Get me somebody! And get me somebody while I'm waiting!” when Frank Shirley appears on screen for the first time chooses a person to finish their drink.
  • The first person to stand up & fully complete the “knock on the door, peek in…” correctly WITH hand gestures during that scene gives two drinks.
  • At any point in the movie, you can point to someone & yell "RUSS!" If they do not respond with "Right here, dad" they must take a drink (max once per person, this could get out of control).
  • Anytime someone misquotes a line in the movie, they have to wear the Santa hat until it gets passed to the next person.
  • When the movie is over, the last person wearing the Santa hat has to shotgun a beer & finish by saying “Ahh, It’s good, It’s good. It’s good.”

Alternative Bachelorette Party Ideas

11/21/2013

Picture
My Big Day LOVES bachelorettes and loves to party!  Some traditional bachelor and bachelorette party ideas seem tired and a little 'been there, done that.'

Try switching things up a bit and look for fun group activities that a tad un-traditional.

Check out the list below and find a party idea that's right for you and your friends. And if you really need help, contact My Big Day and let us plan the party for you!

  1. Sign up for TravelZoo alerts. Have a couple places in mind that you and the girls would like to travel to. When one of those places pops up on a travel alert, snag it fast! You can book an exotic trip for an amazing deal if you are flexible!
  2. Why not Go Green by camping in a national park? Camping trips in the past have a been a fun bachelor party idea but there’s no reason that the girls can’t enjoy a fun night away in Sedona or Joshua Tree. Not crazy about spending time in a tent? There are plenty of outdoor cabins and luxury campsites available online for your eco-friendly bachelorette party.
  3. Give Back Bachelorette Parties: Service oriented parties are making a comeback. Brides are donating their time to give back to their community for a good cause. Using their time in a positive way is a great way to make an important impact for those less fortunate.
  4. Bucket List bachelorette parties are trending. Check something off your bucket list with all your best gal pals in tow.  Make a list, and agree with the girls to knock one or two off the list before you get hitched!
  5. Kick back and relax at a girl’s bachelorette spa weekend. Take a trip to a local salon or plan a lavish spa retreat get away. Let your cares slip away while you’re covered in a mud wrap and massaged into relaxation. Treat your favorite bridesmaids to manicures and pedicures as a thank you for making your big day memorable.
  6. Not everyone can have Napa in their backyard but if you’re lucky you can have a wine and cheese getaway to a local wine country for a special wine themed bachelorette party. Rent a nice limo bus for a responsible transportation tour to all the scenic tasting spots.
  7. Photo session bachelorette parties are all the rage right now. Boudoir photos are a great wedding day present for your new husband. Or similar to photos you took with all your girlfriends in high school, bachelorettes are treating their best girl friends to girlfriend photos. Scrapbook all your new photos for a fun way to remember and thank your bridesmaids.
  8. Everyone loves a laugh and comedians love playfully teasing bachelorettes. Sitting front row at a comedy club theme bachelorette party is a great way to get your bride-to-be plenty of attention!
  9. Plan a Photo Scavenger Hunt. Make a fun list of things or people to take photos of/with!  The team with the most photos wins. You'll laugh the entire time, and have photos to keep for a lifetime.
  10. Trying to stay healthy and in shape for the big day? Plan a health  themed bachelorette party with a yoga instructor, dance class or Pilates class. These classes are great for non-drinkers or pregnant guests because you can abstain from alcohol and partying.

The Huffington Post recently published an article called,     "9 Things Extremely Successful People Do After Work."
Studies have been done and the most successful people don't go home and turn on the TV, or climb into their pajamas... they unplug by doing a number of things.

Of these 9 things, we found that My Big Day annual events go hand in hand with most of the things successful people do to unplug.  So, if you're not partying with My Big Day... you should be! It may increase your success!

9 Things Highly Successful People Do After Work:

1) Unplug
My Big Day events are all about being social. Turn off the phone, and come out to play!

4) Plan Your Weekend
This point was all about planning your weekend. Take a vacation, or just get out and about. Rely on My Big Day to plan the fun- you just have to show up!

5) Plan An Instrument
If you don't play an instrument, you can at least listen to music! My Big Day incorporates music into nearly every event.  And music makes people happy!

6)
Have An 'Ecotherapy' Session
This means- GET OUTSIDE!  Come play with us at Sloshball, the The Trash Bash, the Easter Keg Hunt, or hire us for your own outdoor party!

7) Play A Crazy Sport
Hello, SLOSHBALL!

8)
Focus On Your Family And Friends
Bring them to a My Big Day event. It will definitely be bonding time with those you love!

10 Questions To Ask When Interviewing Vendors

11/15/2013

Picture
Whether you are planning a corporate event, a baby shower, a bridal shower, a birthday party, or a wedding... you have a number of vendors out there to choose from. How to you pick?

While referrals are great, how to you widen your options, and easily narrow down the vendors who you'll trust to pull your event off with grace?

Easy...
You do your research
You ask them carefully prepared questions
You go with your gut!

Here Are The Top 10 Things You Should Consider When Interviewing Vendors:

1. Will the vendor commit to your budget and not push you in the direction of things you simply can't afford?

2. Will the vendor pay attention to the smallest of details? Are they prompt and articulate? (You can gage these things by their promptness in returning phone calls and emails, showing up for your meetings early or on time, and by giving you more information that you even asked for)

3. Can the vendor give you thoughtful and original ideas, showing that they are not only invested in their industry, but experienced?

4. Is the vendor familiar with multiple florists, photographers, caterers, planners, bands, and DJs in your price range? Can he/she explain their strongpoints to you briefly?

5. Can the vendor score you some discounts with any  other vendors, help you negotiate pricing, or in the least, speak of general pricing for other vendors in the industry to help you with your negotiations?

6. Is the vendor legit? Do they have a website, a Facebook page, a Pinterest page, etc? Can you find reviews about their company online? Can they give you a list of referrals?

7. Can the vendor counsel you on industry etiquette matters and speak to hot trends on the horizon?

8. For the day of the event, can the vendor commit to working with only YOU (not juggling multiple clients)?

9. Will the vendor act as your advocate, conveying your visions and desires to others when you don't feel up to the task?

10. PASSION. Does the vendor have it?  If you ask them about their favorite part of their job, do their eyes light up?  If you ask them to tell you about why they got into the industry, do they have a compelling story they love to tell?  If they can’t tell you why they love their job, will they put passion into your Big Day? Probably not.

Note: A professional should have plenty of questions for YOU too.  They should easily be able to determine your wishes, needs, level of maintenance, budget, scope of imagination, and more!

Romantic Places to Steal a Kiss in Colorado!

11/13/2013

Picture
My Big Day has thought of writing this article for quite some time... but Colorado Come to Life beat us to it!  So, we are cross-posting their clever idea!
Take a look at their top 14 places to steal a kiss in Colorado!
My Big Day will be sure to do a follow-up with more of OUR favorite places to steal a kiss!

Love is around every corner in Colorado, with so many gorgeous views, outstanding adventures and intimate experiences to choose from. Use our ideas to inspire a little Valentine's Day romance (or any day!) on your next Colorado excursion. Here are some top places to sneak a smooch.

1. On the Royal Gorge Bridge The Royal Gorge Bridge near Cañon City is America’s highest suspension bridge hanging 1,250 feet above the raging Arkansas River. Cling to one another as you walk (or drive) across the bridge to enjoy the stunning views and sneak a kiss right in the middle.

2. Soaking in a Hot Spring What could be more romantic than soaking in hot springs while a gentle snow falls around you? Choose a place that offers private tubs for optimum romance. The historic Wiesbaden Hot Springs near Ouray, the Dunton Hot Springs in Dolores and The Springs Resort and Spa near Pagosa Springs make perfect secluded getaways.

3. In Loveland (of course) Located along the north Front Range, near Fort Collins, Loveland (the town, not the ski hill) is known as Colorado’s “Sweetheart City.” Aside from its popular Valentine’s Day love stamp program, the city is known its thriving local art scene.

4. On the “One Mile” Step in Front of the Colorado State Capitol While sightseeing in Denver, be sure to note your elevation: one of the steps in front of the Colorado State Capitol building is marked with a plaque signifying that it is exactly 5,280 feet, or one mile, above sea level. A perfect opportunity to snag a memorable smooch in the Mile High City —“mile high club” jokes totally optional.

5. On a Scenic and Historic Train Colorado is known for its historic railroads, and trains are known for romance. Book a wine dinner trip on the Royal Gorge Railroad's in one of their scenic Vista Dome cars. Or, make a day trip of the Cumbres and Toltec railroad in southern Colorado, which winds its way through landscapes unreachable by any other motorized transport.

6. At a B&B No matter where you want to go in Colorado, you’re sure to find a bed and breakfast nearby. Many bed and breakfasts offer romantic amenities like in-room hot tubs or fireplaces to complete your stay. Try the Cliff House at Pikes Peak, outside Colorado Springs, which was named one of Travel + Leisure’s Top 100 Hotels in the World.

7. Over a Glass of Colorado Wine Book a private wine tasting at one of Colorado’s wineries for an educational and delicious event you’ll both remember. Although the majority of Colorado’s vineyards are located on the Western Slope in and around Grand Junction and Palisade, wineries can be found all over the state, including in Denver, Boulder and Cañon City.

8. By the Fire One of the hottest (pardon the pun) trends in Colorado hotels is an outdoor fire pit to cozy up to when the weather is frosty. From big hotels, like the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in Beaver Creek to small bed and breakfasts, rooms with a roaring fire offer choice cuddling — don’t forget the s’mores.

9. In Formal Wear For many ladies and gents, there’s just something about formal attire that gets the heartstrings stirring. Book a night out in Denver with Opera Colorado, the Colorado Symphony or the Colorado Ballet for an excuse to dust off the dinner jackets and ball gowns.

10. In the Dark Cave of the Winds, outside Colorado Springs, offers lantern tours that replicate the flickering flames early explorers used to light their way. Just make sure your sweetie isn’t too afraid of the dark!

11. In a One-Horse Open Sleigh Where there’s snow, you’ll find sleigh rides in Colorado. Search for operators near you and opt for all the extras, like warm beverages for the trip.

12. On Top of the World Whether you ski or not, Colorado’s ski resorts can be some of the most romantic places in the world: Imagine a winter wonderland viewed from a peak that seems to touch the sky. Ride the lifts to the highest peaks, or just snuggle by the fire in the lodge.

13. On a Scenic Overlook Take your better half sightseeing in a whole different way by following one of Colorado’s scenic byway driving tours. Any of these roads will provide you with ample photo opportunities, and every time you pull over to admire the view, you can take a moment to admire each other, too.

14. Over a Fine Meal Colorado has no shortage of amazing restaurants to inspire warm feelings. You might opt for the latest offering from a local celebrity chef, such as Alex Seidel, of Fruition in Denver, who was voted one of Food and Wine’s best new chefs in 2010; or Kelly Liken, whose eponymous restaurant is in Vail. Or, you might choose a destination restaurant like Ragnar’s in Steamboat Springs, where getting there is half the fun — guests can arrive only via skis, snowboards or snowshoes.
