Cold Hands, Warm Hearts at the Loveland Valentine’s Day Group Wedding

2/17/2021

Picture
By Carrie Stadtmueller

Northern Colorado might have had temperatures below zero on Valentine’s day, but there were plenty of warm hearts full of love at the 2021 Loveland Valentine’s Day Group Wedding, presented by My Big Day Marketing & Events.

Couples from all over Northern Colorado and beyond braved the cold weather to celebrate their love at this annual event. This year’s wedding included 17 couples who were tying the knot for the first time!

While wildly successful and full of fun, this event was a case study in why wedding couples should always consider hiring an event planner or event planning team!
Things don’t always go as planned

The original ceremony was supposed to take place among the statues and sculptures at the Chapungu Sculpture Park. However, sub-zero temperatures forced MBD Marketing & Events to make the difficult decision to move the 4pm and 5pm ceremonies indoors. This decision was made out of abundance of caution for the participants’ safety and health.

Right before the 4pm ceremony was set to start, an unfamiliar sound interrupted the mic checks and check-in process - the sound of rushing water. The cold weather had produced frozen pipes and a water main break in the front of the store that had been converted into the wedding venue! The MBD Marketing & Events team jumped into “bucket brigade” mode, and kept the registration area from flooding until the facilities crew and Loveland Fire Department could get the break under control. The team and crews worked so quickly and quietly, that many of the wedding couples were unaware of the emergency!

Plan B is for Beautiful

Decorations, hearts, and lights helped to transform the old New York & Co. store into a beautiful wedding chapel. Couples were ushered in and directed to their socially distanced ceremony spots by the smooth sounds of local musician, Branden Sipes.

Todd Harding served as the Officiant for both ceremonies. Couples shared their personal wedding vows among thoughtful wisdom and romantic readings during the ceremonies.
Some couples shared vows for the first time, while others renewed their original vows from 40 year prior!

At the end of the ceremony, Todd pronounced the couples as married or still married, and the celebration moved out in front of the store where event partner, On The Rocks Mobile Bar - and plenty of mobile heaters, were waiting to offer each of the couples a congratulatory toast, complete with signature cocktails!

A Team Effort

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the partnership and cooperation of a team of individuals and organizations.

Supporting Thompson Education Foundation

2/16/2021

MBD Marketing and Events have been working with Thompson Education Foundation for a couple of years now. From fundraisers to maintaining their social media MBD has been happy to partner with TEF. But who is TEF and what do they do for the Thompson School District and the community surrounding it?

“Thompson Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing exceptional educational opportunities for students and teachers in Thompson School District.  Since 1989, TEF has been focused on student success. The foundation supports over 60 programs, activities, and scholarships in partnership with Thompson School District, serving students in Loveland, Berthoud, south Fort Collins and outlying communities.”

  • 1 in 10 students receive a filled backpack each year from the Help Kids Succeed school supply program.
  • Over 800 unhoused TSD students receive support to overcome barriers to classroom success.
  • In May 2020, TEF awarded $266,857 in post-secondary scholarships to students. Over 1.75 million has been awarded since 2015.
  • TEF supports music and art programs at each school with donations for visual art consumable supplies and musical instrument repair.
  • Pivoted 2020 fundraising and support to create TEF’s Emergency Relief Fund in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on TSD. To date, TEF has funded reading books, school supplies and internet connectivity for remote learning and was able to support families displaced by the Cameron Peak Fire.
  • Hosted two unique events in 2020, Loveland Drive-In and NoCo’s Greatest Drive Thru Trick or Treat Experience to provide TSD families with Covid-safe community opportunities

12/13/2020

Christmas is too sparkly…….said no one ever!

Our team has scoured the corners of Northern Colorado to find all the best and brightest holiday light displays! Grab a thermos of hot cocoa (or something stronger), some blankets, your favorite Christmas playlist (come back tomorrow for our favorite holiday songs!), and your sweetie, and go out for a festive drive! Here are our favorite spots:

1. Winter Wonderlights - Loveland Winter Wonderlights™ is part of the Loveland Light Trail. Be sure to visit the Loveland Light Trail page for your self-guided tour, including info for the popular Gnome Scavenger Hunt taking place through Dec. 31!

3. NoCo Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru - Colorado Youth Outdoors- This family friendly display is sponsored and hosted by Colorado Youth Outdoors. This one mile drive-thru of holiday lights includes twinkling lights, jingle bells, Christmas music, animated outdoor themed features and a fly fishing Santa.

Picture
5. Eagle Ranch Estates - Loveland This subdivision will surely get you in the holiday spirit with all of their festive displays!

6. The Garden of Lights at The Gardens at Spring Creek - Fort Collins A favorite Fort Collins tradition, you can stroll through vignettes and displays - all twinkling with color and magic! Make sure you plan ahead, however - you will need tickets to attend. $10 per person over 12 years old. Money well spent if you ask us!

7. Realities For Children Big Blue NightLights Tree - Fort Collins This iconic symbol in downtown Fort Collins is a holiday favorite! Representing a beacon of light within the darkness of abuse, this 50 foot tree is a reminder to at-risk children everywhere that they are not alone. This year, the tree has a wonderful show designed by Blazen Illuminations, and set to music that you can listen to from your car - 97.1FM, all provided by local musicians. This show runs every half an hour, 5-10PM through the end of December. www.giveanightlight.com for more information.

Next time you’re out in Larimer County, Make the Call for a safe ride home!

Picture
The No DUI Larimer coalition and campaign was born out of the need to address the problem of impaired driving in our community. The goal is to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances by increasing community responsibility for safe and responsible driving.

Our campaign is encouraging the public to “Make the Call” to end impaired driving in our community. Make the Call to get a safe ride home. Make the Call about whether you should get behind the wheel, and Make the Call to report suspected impaired drivers. Driving under the influence IS an emergency–please call 911 if you see someone you suspect is driving impaired.

Ending impaired driving is a joint effort between law enforcement, government agencies, alcohol and cannabis retailers, local nonprofits, and the community. We need your help to stop impaired driving before it happens, and when it’s happening. Thanks for doing your part.

Gratitude for Our Teachers

11/27/2020

Picture
November is the month of gratitude. Of being thankful for the things and people in our lives and appreciating everything life has to offer us. One thing we often overlook are all of the hard-working teachers and school district staff members who work so hard to educate our kids in the best way they can! Thompson Education Foundation annually provides people in the community a chance to nominate a teacher or Thompson School District staff member they believe does an outstanding job in education.
Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Elementary Teacher of the Year (early childhood - grade 5)
  • Secondary Teacher of the Year (grade 6 - Grade 12)
  • Principal of the Year
  • TSD Staff of the Year (Classified, APT, Nutrition Services, Counseling, Transportation, etc.)
Does your teacher go above and beyond her/his normal duties? What about your
principle or another one of the schools’ staff? Educator of the Year is about recognizing that we can not do this alone. We need our teachers and the entire staff behind them to prepare our kids for greatness! Nominations begin November 30th 2020. Click here for more information

Educator of the Year sponsor, King Buick GMC, feels the best way to give back to the
community is through education support: building strong programs that will produce a highly
trained workforce that can increase innovation and energy for American manufacturing. To Honor Thompson School District educators, King Buick GMC provides a new loaner car for 60 days to each teacher of the year winner in all categories and a 24 month new loaner car to The
TEF Educator of the Year.

This year has been especially difficult for teachers and students and even parents with having to learn remotely. Keep this in mind when dealing with your child’s teachers. Have patience and gratitude for what they have to go through and maybe consider sending them a thank you present. Click here for many Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at MBD Marketing and Events and remember to stay safe and find the things in life that you can be grateful for!!

Celebrating Halloween Safely

10/28/2020

This has been a crazy year. Many holidays and birthdays have had to be celebrated in non-traditional ways. The same is true for this year’s Halloween festivities.

Celebrating Halloween During a Pandemic?

Door-to-door trick or treating will not be happening in most neighborhoods. There is a long list of rules and restrictions for candy-givers, parents, children to follow.

Christine Forester, President of My Big Day Marketing & Events,  along with The Thompson Education Foundation, have come up with a way for families in Northern Colorado to celebrate Halloween safely. They saw the need and came up with a solution -  NoCo’s Greatest DriveThru TrickorTreat Experience!

Picture
I have asked Christine to answer a series of questions to help give some insight on this creative way to have a safe but fun event.

1. How did you come up with this idea?
I actually heard tons of rumbling in the news about 'what if Halloween is cancelled this year?" As a parent I started thinking of ways we could make Halloween even safer. I came up with this very different version of a 'trunk or treak' and pitched it. It was a winner!

2. How will the event work exactly?
To ensure all county and city regulations for COVID-19, we are limiting the number of people onsite at a time, so our event has staggered times that cars can arrive. Cars will drive through very slowly as trick-or-treaters can take in the fun displays, and trick or treat out of their windows!

3. This is a fundraiser for The Thompson Education Foundation, what will the proceeds be going towards exactly?
Funds raised for events that support Thompson Education Foundation go toward the many programs they offer, grants and scholarships for students in the Thompson School District.

4. I see the event has been sold out for quite some time, how quickly did the tickets sell and were you expecting such a good turn out?

YES it has! We did expect that the community would embrace this event. We did NOT expect for it to sell out in 5 minutes. We have been receiving hate mail nearly daily from parents who didn't get a ticket. During a global pandemic and working with small businesses and a staff of 50 volunteers- we can truly only do so much. We expect this all day event will bring in 3,000 people over the course of the event. We simply cannot allow any more without breaking county rules and jeopardizing safety.

5. Shout-out to Sponsors?
We are grateful for the support of The Group, Foothills Credit Union, Kaiser Permanente, AIMS, Comcast, and iHeart to name just a few!
Picture
Thank you for creating a safe event!

Although it may not be traditional trick or treating, this event will provide families with a safe, friendly and spooky way to celebrate during these strange and uncertain times.

Thank you to My Big Day and Thompson Education Foundation for helping the kids in our community find a new “normal” that is still full of fun and candy!

In search of the Great Pumpkin - Fall Fun in Northern Colorado

10/8/2020

It’s the perfect weekend to plan a trip to one of the many awesome NoCo farms and pumpkin patches in search of the great pumpkin!

Here’s a list of some of the most festive spots we have found:

1. The Bartels Farm, Fort Collins. Famous for their beautiful pumpkin patch, this is one of the most popular spots on our list. With plenty of activities and attractions, there will be something for everyone in the family to enjoy! Be prepared for large crowds (they have plenty of parking - we're talking an overflow parking lot with hundreds of vehicles) - so make sure to pack your mask for safety purposes! (Their website is under construction)
Picture
2. Osborn Farm, Loveland - This local favorite has lots of room to spread out, a great selection of pumpkins, and a friendly staff. There is a pond with fish, sheep and a new calf, honey from the farm, and great photo ops. Unfortunately, the corn maze and tractor rides are closed this year due to Covid. http://osborn.farm

3.  Anderson Farms, Erie - A favorite of many, Anderson Farms is big and has a lot of fun and entertaining attractions. Activities open during covid include the train, slides, corn maze, kids maze, tire "mountain," wagon ride, go-karts, playground, and petting zoo. Their website provides a  list Covid-19 precautions so you can feel safe attending with little ones. https://andersonfarms.com

4. Tigges Farm Produce and Pumpkin Patch- Activities and procedures are a bit different this year, due to Covid regulations, but you can still visit to browse for the perfect pumpkin, tasty Colorado grown chiles, and the gift shop has a variety of jellies, jams, gifts, carving kits & more! https://www.tiggesfarm.com/

5.  Fritzler Farm Park - Fritzler Farm will be open for select days through October. Popular with many families, as well as school and youth groups, reservations for your visit are encouraged. They offer a variety of corn mazes, games, a barrel train, pumpkin cannons, paintball galleries, and a Beer Garden for adults!  https://www.fritzlerfarmpark.com/fall-days

If you’re looking for more Halloween and Fall-inspired activities beyond the pumpkin patch, My Big Day partner and friend, Macaroni Kid,  has an extensive list of events and spots you should definitely check out! This extensive list of Pumpkin Patches, Fall Festivals, Corn Mazes & Haunted Spots covers all of Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Erie, and more!
