Essential Tips for Finding and Keeping Event Sponsors

6/21/2022

With so many nonprofit clients, our My Big Day team spends a lot of time securing donations and sponsorships for events. Here are some essential tips for finding and keeping event sponsors for your small company or nonprofit.

Picture
What are event sponsors?

Sponsors are companies, organizations, or individuals who fund an event in exchange for publicity, so that proceeds from the event can go to the host organization. Sponsors typically provide monetary funds, but may also offer in-kind donations of goods, promotional sponsorships through platforms like websites or social media, or advertising sponsorships.

How do I find event sponsors?

When searching for potential event sponsors, consider organizations that have something in common with your own, such as a mission, values, and/or an audience.

Your chances of securing a potential sponsor are much greater if there is reason for them to be interested in your event, such as a professed interest in your company’s goals and beliefs or potential for the sponsor to market themselves to their desired audience. You can also look at a company’s website, social media pages, and news articles to see if they’ve sponsored similar events in the past.

When sourcing sponsors, consider:

  • Finding similar events and looking at who is sponsoring them
  • tarting with well-known companies in your area with a community focus
  • Looking at companies in a related industry (for example, a food bank might solicit sponsorship from a grocery store)
  • Utilize your board. This is part of their role in supporting your organization. It’s all about relationships!

How do I secure event sponsors?

Event planners often provide potential sponsors with a sponsorship packet – a digital or printed pamphlet that breaks down the benefits a sponsor receives based on the amount of funding they provide.

A sponsorship packet should include details about audience demographics, projected or past attendance numbers, vendor names, any data or analytics you can provide about your organization’s reach on individual platforms, and testimonials from past sponsors. For nonprofits, testimonials from beneficiaries can be very appealing to potential sponsors.

Elements that can help with emotional appeal for both small businesses and nonprofits include your startup story, inspiration behind your organization, your mission statement, and ways your organization benefits the local community.

Typical sponsorship benefits include brand exposure, audience engagement, and improved reputation for the sponsoring organization. A sponsorship packet outlines levels of sponsorship (for example, Silver, Gold, Platinum) and corresponding publicity benefits.

Picture
What are some common event sponsor benefits?

  • Sponsor logo and/or advertisement on event website and ticketing page

  • Sponsor shout-outs on host organization’s social media channels leading up to, and after, the event

  • Inclusion of sponsor’s logo on printed event materials, such as programs, menus, tickets, etc.

  • Sponsor logo displayed on a banner at the event

  • Sponsor logo on promotional merchandise

  • A booth for the sponsor at the event

  • Event naming rights
Picture
What are some creative event sponsor benefits?

Make your sponsorship packet stand out by offering these unique event sponsor benefits:

  • Goodies from the sponsor in curated gift bags for event guests

  • A photo backdrop or “selfie” station with sponsor branding and social media handles

  • Decor featuring the sponsor’s brand colors or logo

  • A sponsored game or game lounge for guests

  • A sponsored bar with branded glassware and drinks

  • A sponsored lounge area

  • An area where guests can interact with a sponsor’s product(s), if in keeping with the theme of the event

  • The host company will match event sponsors’ donations

  • A sponsor-branded charging station at your event

  • Sponsor logo or digital frame on an event live-stream

  • Branded snacks, like cupcakes with a sponsor’s logo

  • Have a DJ or band donate entertainment for your event in exchange for a captive audience and exposure

  • Include creative options for guests to engage with sponsors, such as a video about the sponsor on your social media page or a link to “Like” the sponsor’s page in an event email

  • Incorporate sponsor products into your event, such as having event staff wear clothing from a sponsoring retailer

  • Include sponsor names and logos in the Facebook header image for your event, so visitors will get exposure even if they don’t scroll through your shout-out posts

  • Sole rights to broadcasting an event on the radio, on television, or online

Creativity Calls - MBD Answers!

4/26/2022

Picture
We love it when we get calls out of the blue from a company who needs help with creativity! It's what we do best! We met our new friends at DBC Irrigation in 2021 when everyone what facing similar pandemic problems with events. We created a HUGE backpack fundraiser for A Precious Child (501c3) that was an engaging team-building activity. And we helped to provide hundreds of students with backpacks for the 21-22 school year, while giving the DBC staff a unique team building activity!
DBC called again and asked us to create a unique Spring luncheon event that was FUN, CREATIVE, ENGAGING and would help they to raise money while employees have a great time.
We created a musically delightful and silly day at the Denver Museum of Art.
All smiles - all day --- and we were able to donate $20,000 to 3 local charities who are supporting the families affected by the Marshall Fire!
Colorado Pet Pantry + Sister Carmen Community Center + Future Arts Foundation of Colorado are the charities that received this incredible support!
Thank you to Dick Knapp Photography for capturing the fun, HOWE Eventful for the Music Trivia and the Denver Museum of Art for hosting us!

NoCo Grocery Grab - FUNdraiser for Partners

4/20/2022

Picture
MBD Marketing & Events had such a blast with this young event, in it's 2nd year of awesomeness!
This fresh event brought the energy of the classic TV show Supermarket Sweep to Northern Colorado.  Partners raffled off the chance to win three top prizes— $1000,  $750, and $500 shopping spree at Lucky’s Market. Then on April 3rd, our winners shopped with just 4 minutes to grab whatever they could (with a few hidden prizes along the way).

The NoCo Grocery Grab is a FUN event that gives our community a chance to have their own Supermarket Sweep. MBD is the proud planning partner and cheerleaders of a fun way to raise money for a great non-profit!

Special thanks to all of the event sponsors, 99.9 The Point's BIG ROB, Dick Knapp Photography and the Partners board and staff!

Igniting the SPARK - Support Mentorship in NoCo

11/24/2021

MBD works with a number of non-profit clients and we love supporting the important work they all do to support our community.
Partners is a special 501c3 to MBD's owner, Christine, as they provide programs to our youth and a large mentorship program. Christine was a mentor to teen girls for over 10 years and has first hand experience as a mentor for Partners.

Now as their fundraising team, we are asking our followers to support them and their vital programs for Northern Colorado Youth.
Picture
Please choose to give to Partner’s Spark Campaign! Partners relies on community support to fund our youth programs and The Spark Campaign is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All of the funds we raise--from corporate sponsors, community groups, and individual donors--benefit our youth programs. Did you know that through Partners over 500 youth achieve a 70% increase in their confidence and self-esteem? A small donation of $50 can provide a youth with some basic life skills that they can take with them into adulthood.
Picture
This year they aim to raise $150,000—it’s a big goal that will allow them to continue serving our
community in big ways, and helping local youth gain confidence, social skills, resiliency, and
hope. Supporting The Spark Campaign means supporting local kids and families at a time when they need it most. Please consider giving to Partners to help reach their 2021 fundraising goal. Donate Now!

You can also help by igniting the spark in others. Help share the amazing work Partners does.

Ways to help:
  1. Sign up to be a Spark Champion: You will get your own profile on our Champions page that you can share with your networks. All donations help us get closer to our goal! Fill out this form and we will be in touch!
  2. Share our Facebook fundraiser or Instagram fundraiser to your profiles. They will be running through the end of the year so you can share whenever it works best for you.
  3. Spread the word about our campaign through other channels. If you don't want a Champions profile but you know people who care about local kids, share this link: https://poweredbypartners.org/spark/

5 Helpful Tips to Remote Learning

12/26/2020

* A blog dedicated to our non-profit client, Thompson Education Foundation
COVID-19 has forced schools to do what’s being referred to “remote” or “distance” learning this year, and some say it could continue into 2021 as well. This has been a difficult process for parents, students and teachers to adjust to. Just know, you are not alone! Many parents and teachers have been experimenting with what works best for their students during this time. I have gathered the top 5 most helpful tips on how to be successful with remote learning!

1. Make a schedule.
Having a consistent daily schedule can allow everyone to feel prepared and ready for their day. Organizing their schedule around your schedule as a parent can ease some stress of working at home and having your kids schooling at home. Consistency is key! For example, if you have math first one day, math should be first every day. Visualize your schedule by printing it out, writing it on a dry erase or chalk board, or making a clickable schedule on their laptop. Set alarms for zoom classes to keep everyone on schedule without having to have it all memorized.
Picture
2. Take a typing class.
Younger kids who have not had a lot of school experience are feeling overwhelmed. Not only do they have to sit in front of a computer all day, they also must know how to use one! Getting your student typing classes can help teach kids the basics of typing properly with exercises on what all of the keys mean and how to use them. Typing Club offers free classes and exercises to help get your child prepped for remote learning! https://www.typingclub.com
Picture
3. Give lots of Breaks.
Breaking up the schedule can help your student focus better and be ready to learn. Everyone need breaks throughout their day, whether it’s for snacks, exercise or just to rest their eyes from the screen breaks can help kids feel more independent in remote learning as long as there is consistency. Students thrive on consistency! One tip from a parent was to have activity kits ready for when your child is in between classes and you do not have the time to get them started on something. If the child has activities at their workspace it can help keep them focused and entertained until you can get around to
helping them.
Picture
4. Give kids an outlet to discuss emotions.
One of things to not lose sight on is that you are still their parent, not just their new teacher, or helper with school assignments. By having kids write in a journal they can process their feelings in this uncertain time. A nice addition to your daily schedule is to set aside time to talk as a family about how everyone is feeling and coping with everything.
Picture
4. Optimizing the Learning Space.
Having a learning space free of distractions, noise, tv and other forms of entertainment can optimize the student’s learning process. Having access to all supplies at their space, within reach that is well organized can also help kids with becoming distracted from needing to leave their learning space to go elsewhere in the home.
For even more tips and ideas on how to deal with remote learning visit our Pinterest board. https://www.pinterest.com/MyBigDayEvents/education-k-12/

In response to COVID-19 and Thompson School District’s decision to continue remote learning in schools, Thompson Education Foundation (TEF) and the Literacy Committee of Loveland Rotary Club each committed $10,000 ($20,000 total) to support remote learning for students in 2020. The first purchase was for 5,000 books for students who are participating in TSD’s emergency food distribution program. The books were purchased for all grade levels, PreK-12. In addition, Thompson Education Foundation supplied 500 school supply kits to supplement at-home learning for elementary and secondary students without access to supply resources at home. Gratitude for Our Teachers

11/27/2020

Picture
November is the month of gratitude. Of being thankful for the things and people in our lives and appreciating everything life has to offer us. One thing we often overlook are all of the hard-working teachers and school district staff members who work so hard to educate our kids in the best way they can! Thompson Education Foundation annually provides people in the community a chance to nominate a teacher or Thompson School District staff member they believe does an outstanding job in education.
Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Elementary Teacher of the Year (early childhood - grade 5)
  • Secondary Teacher of the Year (grade 6 - Grade 12)
  • Principal of the Year
  • TSD Staff of the Year (Classified, APT, Nutrition Services, Counseling, Transportation, etc.)
Does your teacher go above and beyond her/his normal duties? What about your
principle or another one of the schools’ staff? Educator of the Year is about recognizing that we can not do this alone. We need our teachers and the entire staff behind them to prepare our kids for greatness! Nominations begin November 30th 2020. Click here for more information

Educator of the Year sponsor, King Buick GMC, feels the best way to give back to the
community is through education support: building strong programs that will produce a highly
trained workforce that can increase innovation and energy for American manufacturing. To Honor Thompson School District educators, King Buick GMC provides a new loaner car for 60 days to each teacher of the year winner in all categories and a 24 month new loaner car to The
TEF Educator of the Year.

"Play It Forward" The Family Center/La Familia's End of Year Campaign

11/25/2020

We are approaching the end of 2020, and that means it’s almost time to launch The Family Center’s annual Play it Forward year-end campaign.

My Big Day has been proud to support this amazing non-profit and help lead their fundraising efforts!

If you’re familiar with The Family Center/La Familia, you know our goal in an average year is to raise at least $50,000 for families. This year has not been an average year. The needs of our community are greater than ever. Larimer County’s childcare assistance program has now been closed for three years due to lack of funding. And, if you received our Play it Forward 2020 letter, you know the pandemic has not slowed us down - in fact, it has only increased the needs of families in our community.

Picture
Here are some of TFC’s 2020 achievements so far, by the numbers:
  • Over $68,000 in scholarships for 23 children
  • Over $37,000 in rent assistance to 62 families
  • Over $150,000 in energy outreach utility assistance to 335 households
  • 293 households have accessed the Advocacy Closet
  • 112 households are enrolled in Family Development Services
Picture
Our goal for this year’s Play it Forward event is to raise $80,000.

Here are some examples of how far your donation can go:

  • $10 provides wipes for the entire infant classroom for 1 week
  • $30 provides a much-needed, safe car seat or booster seat to a family, and safety program in English or Spanish
  • $100 supports food for breakfasts for a week for ALL of the children in our center
  • $250 provides seeds for our garden
  • $500 provides breakfast and lunch for 60 children for 1 week
  • $500 can provide hygiene products to approximately 150 families through our Advocacy Closet
  • $600 provides hearing, vision, and dental screenings to all children in our care twice per year
  • $1,000 provides care for an entire month to a preschooler in our childcare center
  • $2,500 supports our community garden for a full year
  • $5,000 provides our 7 classrooms with consumable supplies for one year (items like construction paper, markers, glue, parent engagement activities, etc.)
  • $10,000 nearly covers the cost of childcare for 1 year for a child whose working parent(s) earn less than the federal poverty level income
Picture
Did you know that your donations to TFC/La Familia also qualify for Colorado’s Child Care Contribution Tax Credit? This means that 50% of your income comes right off your taxable income. If you donate $100 to our Play it Forward campaign, your net out-of-pocket cost is just $50 - for a $200 donation after donor matching.

You can donate to Play it Forward easily online HERE.
Thank you to our vibrant community for another year of support. We couldn’t operate The Family Center/La Familia without you.

Alternative Halloween 2020

11/1/2020

The MBD team has been extremely fortunate to have some amazing partners who have trusted us with their valued community events. Knowing that we are invested in our community and we still wanted to bring fun to local families, My Big Day worked with Thompson Education Foundation and The Centerra Marketplace to put on some amazing Halloween experiences!
Picture
Our socially safe Trick-or-Treat event hosted at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland was a huge success! Over 30 vendor booths, over 40 volunteers, and over 3,000 guests came through on Saturday, October 31st. This event was FREE to the public.
Picture
The Halloween Hullabaloo hosted by McWhinney at the Centerra Marketplace provided 7 drive-in movies for FREE for families to enjoy! What a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday, dress up, and enjoy some old fashioned fun!
Our good friend, Jen West Photography, captured some photos of the fun over the Halloween weekend.
Thank you for supporting our small business while we support others. We love what we do!
