How We Bring JOY to the Job

4/23/2023

At MBD Marketing & Events, we know how to mix work and play to create a truly fun and engaging work environment. We pride ourselves on bringing energy and enthusiasm to our work every day. All of us find meaning and joy in the work we do for our clients. Here’s how each member of our team brings “Joy to the Job!”
Picture
Christine Forster
President, Purveyor of Passions

I bring Joy to the Job by providing clients with MBD team members that match best with their needs. Every client, no matter the size, deserves someone who truly cares about their business and aligns well with their beliefs and passions.

The personal touches are also important to me as a business owner. Postcards, happy notes, social time outside of business time and passing along business leads all are ways I bring joy to the job.

I provide a cool and calm presence when things go off-course. In event planning, we are trained to imagine and prepare for all possible outcomes. Sometimes things don't go exactly as planned. I make it my mission to stay calm and on-task during these little moments of chaos, hopefully providing peace of mind to our clients.

I enjoy working behind the scenes so our clients and their causes can shine!

Manager, Magic Maker

One of my personal strengths is the ability to remain calm and think things through when a problem arises, rather than panic. I have the ability to remain level-headed and solve problems behind the scenes, relieving stress and worry for our clients and bringing them joy.

Director, Community Wizard

I absolutely love to problem solve. The moment something inevitably goes wrong and we are able to quickly solve the issue is so rewarding. Sometimes the client comes to us with a problem and is beyond grateful we were there to solve it (day of or in the days before an event). But many times the client isn’t even aware of the issue and sees everything running smoothly. In both cases, problem-solving truly brings me joy!

Manager, Client Cheerleader

I love to be in person with events, as it gives you a chance to meet and talk with the guests. You get to hear their stories, share in their joy, see their excitement and know that you were a hug, an ear for listening or you were someone for them to jump for joy with. It's what everyone needs!

I am a perfectionist. When I’m working, every detail matters, because my goal is to make our client’s vision come to life. Whether it’s someone’s wedding or a small business client, my favorite thing is when a client walks into their event space or sees marketing materials we’ve prepared and says, “Wow,” with a smile on their face.

Picture

Manager, Marketing Maven

I'm not afraid to ask the tough questions to help identify barriers to success. I also use my fundraising background to help create materials that will anticipate donor questions.

Manager, Marketing Maven

I try to bring joy to my clients by talking them up in social media posts. It’s always hard to brag about yourself, but if someone else is seeing the talent in you and is good at expressing your strengths in words, it’s a huge compliment!

As purveyors of fun with MBD Marketing & Events, we support businesses and individuals in the growth of their ideas, events and marketing strategies. Our creative aptitude and team of women with diverse backgrounds and expertise allows for unique ideas. Our passion for perfection makes every client a priority!

My personal joy comes from the visual arts and photography. One way I express joy and share it with others is through my photography. My photography seeks to see things from a new perspective: capturing patterns and ratios, the play of light, and of course the product for our customers.

I have worked on thousands of websites and use my skill of recognizing patterns to make great user-friendly websites for customers. When I design a website, I try to make it as user-friendly as possible as well as having the overall design capture the aesthetic and ethos of the company.

Exceptional Event Expert

One of my strengths is learning the little things that are most important to my clients, and my attention to detail. Sometimes the smallest details can make the biggest impact by featuring those details in an event. I look out for those little, surprise "wow" moments and how I can incorporate them into an event to make it really personalized and special.

Our team listens first. We are passionately curious about you and your business – what moves you and what you want to accomplish. We offer custom business support plans, based on your business size and goals. Our packages offer a large variety of services all in one place, giving you a source of support and streamlined productivity.

The Importance of Employee Appreciation Programs- and Some Ideas You Can Use

3/22/2023

Employee appreciation programs are important for a business’s success because they can help create a positive work environment, boost employee morale and motivation, and ultimately increase productivity and retention rates.
Picture
Companies that provide quality and worthy employee appreciation programs have the advantage of finding and keeping talent over those that overlook this important part of healthy company culture. These advantages come in the form of:
  1. Improved employee morale: When employees feel appreciated and recognized for their hard work, they are more likely to have a positive attitude toward their job and the company they work for. This can lead to a more enjoyable work environment for everyone.
  2. Increased motivation: Recognizing and appreciating employees can also boost their motivation and encourage them to continue working hard. This can lead to increased productivity, better performance, and improved job satisfaction.
  3. Higher retention rates: Employee appreciation programs can also help reduce turnover rates by showing employees that their hard work and contributions are valued. This helps a stronger commitment to the company to grow!
  4. Enhanced employer brand: A company that values and appreciates its employees is likely to have a stronger employer brand. This ultimately helps to attract top talent and improve the company’s reputation both within and outside of the industry.

What can you do to ensure that your employees are happy and feel appreciated?

While there are many traditional ways to show employees appreciation, the changing work scape has inspired many companies to come up with more effective and creative nontraditional employee appreciation methods.

Picture
Here is some creative inspiration for nontraditional appreciation ideas:

  1. Offering flexible work arrangements: Flexible work arrangements, such as telecommuting or flexible scheduling can be a great way to show employees that you trust and value them.
  2. Providing opportunities for growth and development: When employees receive opportunities to learn new skills and grow within their roles or the company, they feel supported and appreciated. Consider implementing training programs, mentorships, and opportunities to take on new responsibilities.
  3. Company Wellness Programs: Offering wellness programs, such as gym memberships, meditation classes, or healthy snacks in the office, can show employees that you care about their well-being and want to support their health.
  4. Customized and personal recognition: Personalizing recognition can make employees feel even more valued! For example, you could give them a gift that supports their interests or hobbies. You could also create a custom thank-you note that highlights specific contributions they have made to the company.
  5. Encouraging employee-led initiatives: Allowing employees to lead initiatives, such as organizing charity drives, can be a great way to show that you trust and value their leadership skills.
  6. Offering time off: Giving employees time off, whether it’s a bonus day off or an extended holiday break, can be a great way to show appreciation and give them a chance to recharge!
Picture
By thinking creatively and finding ways to show appreciation that goes beyond the traditional gift card or bonus, companies can create a culture of appreciation and recognition that will benefit both employees and the company as a whole.

7 Reasons Employee Happiness Matters for Business

3/16/2023

As a business owner, you probably (hopefully) want to see your employees happy. But did you know employee happiness matters for your business’s bottom line, too? Joy is part of all aspects of our work at MBD Marketing & Events. Here are seven reasons employee satisfaction is crucial for business success.
Picture
Happy employees are more productive

Happy employees are 12% more productive than their dissatisfied counterparts (Snacknation). Happiness is an invigorating, motivating emotion. In fact, employee satisfaction has a greater impact on performance than financial incentives. In fact, nine out of 10 employees would trade a percentage of their salary for “meaningful work” and positive company culture (Harvard Business Review).

Research shows that people who are happy at work are more collaborative, more creative, and better at problem-solving. (Sound like a team you know?) Coworkers who are happy in the workplace and who get along well are more likely to work effectively to achieve common goals.

Greater happiness = greater sales

Like with productivity, greater happiness translates to greater sales - by 37% (Gallup). Not only have we determined that engaged employees are more productive, but that positive attitude resonates with customers. Potential customers or clients are much more likely to commit when interacting with upbeat salespeople.

Companies with happy employees outperform their competition

Not surprisingly, companies with happy employees, better productivity, and greater sales outperform their competition in all areas. Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” enjoyed a raise in stock prices of 14% per year from 1998-2005, compared to 6% for the overall market (Forbes).

Positive workplace culture creates a beneficial snowball effect by creating happier employees who in turn contribute to a better workplace climate. The Harvard Business Review notes, “Decades of data have confirmed that higher employee engagement, or the strength of the mental and emotional connection an employee feels toward their workplace, has many positive benefits — including reduced stress, improved health and job satisfaction, as well as increased productivity, job retention, and profitability.”

Engaged workers are less likely to look for new employment

Happy employees want to stay with their companies. Losing an employee costs a company 1.5 to two times that employee’s salary (BuiltIn) and leads to decreased productivity and decreased employee morale.

In addition, happy employees attract top talent. The most in-demand employees in any field have their pick of companies to work for, and company culture is the top priority for most workers. High-quality employees attract other high-quality workers.
Picture
Happy workers have fewer accidents

Satisfied employees produce better quality products and services and have 50% fewer workplace accidents (Lorman). Happiness leads to higher engagement, which leads to greater focus and motivation, and in turn, fewer mistakes at work. Employees who are worried, stressed, or distracted at work are at the highest risk for quality and safety mishaps.

Happy employees take fewer sick days

Sick days are a business expense, and employees who report being happy at work take 10 times fewer than average (iSmartRecruit). The Integrated Benefits Institute found in 2019 that sick days cost employers an average of $3,900 per employee in lost productivity. When unhappiness in the workplace increases, so do sick days.

What happens when employees are unhappy at work?

A 2013 State of the American Workplace Report estimated that actively disengaged workers cost the U.S. $450-550 billion per year (CBS News). Here are some other alarming statistics about employees who are unhappy at work:

  • Only 25% of employees who quit their jobs cite money as the main reason for leaving. (Source)
  • Only 13% of employees are engaged at work. (Source)
  • A 2013 Gallup study found that only 30 percent of American employees felt occupied or enthused by their jobs, while the other 70 percent were not utilizing their full potential. (Source)
  • Only 42% of employees are happy with the rewards and recognition offered by their companies. (Source)
  • 57% of remote workers are satisfied with their job; only 50% of in-office employees agree. (Source)

Team Building Activities to Foster Healthy Work Relationships

9/26/2022

What is a corporate recipe for success when it comes to building healthy and successful professional (workplace) relationships? A sprinkling of a positive company culture that promotes interaction and connection between coworkers.

How do employers promote these connections? Easily through team-building activities and exercises. Team building exercises or activities are games, meetings, experiences and events that are designed to motivate group members to get to know and respect each other - often times on a different level that what they are used to in the office.

While often silly or far from “work-related”, team-building exercises are activities that are thoughtfully designed to encourage teamwork. They produce a variety of benefits, including - thoughtful communication between participants (coworkers), motivation to try new approaches to problem solving, creative thinking, and building trust.
Picture
The 5 main types of corporate team-building

Ultimately, the activities you choose to focus on depend on your goals. Some experiences are strictly designed to foster relationship building, while others focus more on developing specific skills.

There are 5 main types of team-building:
  1. Icebreakers
  2. Communication
  3. Problem-solving
  4. Creative Thinking
  5. Employee Bonding

Icebreakers
Quick games and icebreaker activities are a great way to kick-off a professional gathering. They are often used to motivate employees to participate. Some easy meeting icebreakers are:
  • The Human Knot: In this activity a group stands in a circle and grabs the hands of someone across from them. Once everyone is connected they must work together to untangle without letting go of their hands.
  • Two truths and a lie: Each group member van share two facts and one lie about themselves. The rest of the group must guess the lie.

Communication

Activities that focus on healthy and thoughtful communication patterns are a great way to develop strong communication skills in a low-risk environment.
  • Team Scavenger Hunt: Teams can be on the hunt for a predetermined list of objects or locations to find.

My Big Day Marketing & Events
has developed a variety of scavenger hunts for corporate clients – some focusing on the communication part, some focusing on fun.
  • Escape Rooms:
Escape rooms are the ultimate exercise in healthy communication! Teams must work together to solve clues and complete challenges before their time in the room runs out. Groups that focus on good listening and transparent communication usually find success!
  • Take a Cooking Class together: Divide into pairs or teams for some culinary fun! A successful and tasty dish will require open communication!
Picture

Problem Solving

Activities that focus on creative problem solving often lead to better results in the workplace. Escape Rooms could again be used to hone these skills, but here are a few other activities that will help your group find creative solutions to challenges:
  • Board Games:  Games that require bartering or trading are great for boosting problem solving and communication skills. Think Settlers of Catan and the like.
  • Water Balloon Toss: In this activity, employees are divided into pairs. These pairs must toss a water balloon back and forth, taking a step further back between each toss. Sometimes this can be done with two pairs of employees who catch and throw the balloon using a beach towel.

Creative Thinking
Encouraging creativity in play often translates to success in the board room!
  • Pictionary: Another party/board game, this one really gets the creativity flowing. Divide into teams. Ask the teams to draw a series of random objects, people, events, or phrases for their teammates to guess. The team with the most correct guesses wins.

Employee Bonding
Happy people produce good work! You can encourage relationship building outside of the office with these suggestions:
  • Group volunteering experiences: Find a cause that aligns with  your organization and gather your group together to help out.
  • Karaoke night: A great and fun out-of-office experience. Who knows - you might have a singing superstar on staff
Picture
My Big Day Marketing and Events has a team of professional planners and facilitators who can help you plan engaging activities for your team. We can develop an itinerary that will help you reach your team-bonding goals, which in turn will help you find success - both in and out of the office!

My Big Day was ecstatic to be enlisted as the 'fun makers' for Slate360, an event company based out of Nevada/Boston. The team at Slate360 asked us to plan a packed itinerary filled with experiences and excursions in Colorado.

From booking car services to/from the hotel and out and about, to meals, to team-building activities, we had a blast putting together tons of fun for this client!

Our new friends know how to make all of their team members feel welcome. Fantastic lodging at The Elizabeth Hotel in Old Town Fort Collins, a custom candy bar, packed fridge, every supply that could make one feel comfortable when traveling, and monogramed gifts for all!
Here is a taste of just 2 days of the team's itinerary...

Creativity Calls - MBD Answers!

4/26/2022

Picture
We love it when we get calls out of the blue from a company who needs help with creativity! It's what we do best! We met our new friends at DBC Irrigation in 2021 when everyone what facing similar pandemic problems with events. We created a HUGE backpack fundraiser for A Precious Child (501c3) that was an engaging team-building activity. And we helped to provide hundreds of students with backpacks for the 21-22 school year, while giving the DBC staff a unique team building activity!
DBC called again and asked us to create a unique Spring luncheon event that was FUN, CREATIVE, ENGAGING and would help they to raise money while employees have a great time.
We created a musically delightful and silly day at the Denver Museum of Art.
All smiles - all day --- and we were able to donate $20,000 to 3 local charities who are supporting the families affected by the Marshall Fire!
Colorado Pet Pantry + Sister Carmen Community Center + Future Arts Foundation of Colorado are the charities that received this incredible support!
Thank you to Dick Knapp Photography for capturing the fun, HOWE Eventful for the Music Trivia and the Denver Museum of Art for hosting us!
