As purveyors of fun with My Big Day, we support businesses and individuals in the growth of their ideas, events and marketing strategies. Our creative aptitude allows for unique ideas. Our passion for perfection makes every client a priority! MBD Marketing & Events has been in the industry for over 16 years and has seen A LOT in our time. Analyzing what we have booked this year, what our clients are talking about, what we are learning in the courses we take, and reading what our industry partners have to say.... here is what you can expect from meetings and events in 2023. 2023 Event Forecast and Trends Colorado’s economy is expected to continue growing in 2023 — slowly. This is good news. Colorado’s economy is expected to grow slightly in 2023 — by a little over 1 percent, and inflation is predicted to drop to 4.6 percent according to the December economic forecast from Legislative Council Staff, the state’s nonpartisan fiscal analysts. While we may see some hesitation to spend big in some areas of business... economic growth helps with consumer confidence. Meeting professionals expect in-person events and budgets to increase in 2023, according to American Express Meetings & Events. The 12th annual Global Meetings & Events Forecast found that more than three quarters (77 per cent) of respondents are optimistic about the health of the industry heading into 2023 (rating eight or above out of 10) – a six-point increase compared to last year’s survey. And when it comes to budgets, just under two thirds (65 per cent) said that overall M&E spend is increasing for 2023. MBD engages closely with Cvent and always anticipates their annual report. Below are Cvent’s 14 Meeting & Event Trends for 2023 Trend 1 – Planners are not only planning more meetings, they anticipate a surge in future bookings. Trend 2 – There’s a renewed focus on return on time/experience/investment for attendees, especially as costs increase. Trend 3 – Social activism will play a big role in how meetings are planned. Trend 4 – Hotels need to adapt to “a triple threat” (in-person, hybrid and virtual). Trend 5 – Event planners will refocus on and prioritize health and wellness activities. Trend 6 – Planners are choosing leisure destinations more frequently, perhaps even over metro centers. Trend 7 – Virtual reality is no longer just for video games. It may soon make event planning easier and more efficient. Trend 8 – Google’s shift away from third-party cookies will impact online advertising strategies. Trend 9 – Smaller meetings may increasingly become a preferred option, especially for luxury events. Trend 10 – Special events will increasingly become multiday celebrations. Trend 11 – In-person meetings are a vital part of maintaining and rebuilding workplace culture. Trend 12 – Reaching event planners with influencer marketing and placing additional emphasis on video content will become more common. Trend 13 – An increased focus on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the meetings and events industry. Trend 14 – New planners increasingly seek out special venues, outdoor events and unique settings. Colorado is especially well-suited for trends 5, 6, 10, and 14 when working with planners seeking health and wellness activities, leisure destinations, multiday offerings, and unique/outdoor settings. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) also is at the forefront. Meetings + Events Magazine predicts significant meeting & event recovery in 2023. As reporting just weeks ago, in an update to its U.S. Meetings Recovery Forecast (MRF) released late last year, Knowland predicts that 2023 will be a year of growth and not just another year of recovery. The company, known for providing data insights on meetings and events for the hospitality industry, also offered an updated Top 25 U.S. Meetings Recovery Forecast (MRF25). Knowland added the MRF25 in February 2022 examine industry recovery patterns for the top 25 U.S. markets. These cities include Anaheim, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Oahu Island, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C. Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has released their Fall 2022 Meetings Outlook report that indicates that many meeting professionals are reporting their business is back to pre-pandemic levels. However, rising costs and insufficient resources (both staff and budgets) are expected to be trends in 2023. Price hikes have hit virtually every area of the industry, with 64% of planners and suppliers calling it a seller’s market. As a result, 78% are seeking new revenue opportunities for their meetings and events. While 65% expect their budgets to increase in 2023, the growth likely won’t keep pace with rising costs. Staffing is still an issue, with 62% of survey respondents indicating they are still having trouble filling staff vacancies. A year ago, only 3% or respondents said their business levels had returned to pre-pandemic levels. Now, 32% indicate full recovery with 31% implying it will happen sometime in 2023 and the remaining 37% in 2024 or later. Great news! The MBD Marketing & Events team has seen first-hand an increase in meetings, events and retreats. What we have noticed most is that clients are looking for NEW and CREATIVE ways to meet, connect and engage. We pride ourselves on our resourcefulness, connections and creativity. We anticipate growth in 2023 and even more so in 2024. Making Business Personal

The RSVPs are in, dresses tailored and catering confirmed. What could go wrong? No wedding – no matter how well-planned and well-run – is immune to the occasional crisis or disaster. Knock on wood and consider this prewedding emergency checklist: Know your venue and its contacts. There is a leak in the women's bathroom. Before your guests ruin their shoes, know who the contacts are for your venue. Work with them to have a plan B in case of maintenance emergencies, weather or other unforeseen situations. Same for vendors. Only 85 chairs were delivered instead of 100. Who do you call? Having a clear list of all vendor contacts - and distributing it to all members of your event team - is critical to managing emergencies on the fly. Be familiar with evacuation plans and emergency exits. The fire alarm is going off. What now? Have a plan for how you will evacuate your guests - and communicate the need to do so. Having a PA system, bullhorn or whistle in your emergency kit can help you get the attention of a crowd. Identify staff or volunteers in advance to help guide guests to emergency exits. Print it out. Having copies of all guest lists, permits, contracts, contact numbers, maps, layouts, etc. can be a lifesaver. We all love trees and live in a digital world, but there's nothing like a visual in case of an emergency. Being able to show someone on a map where the extra chairs go or how you are going to move things around is critical. Additionally, you can handoff paper much more easily than a tablet when delegating tasks or information. Have enough copies for everyone and a few extras, just in case. Have an emergency kit packed and ready. You have things that are moving that shouldn't. Things that aren't moving that should. A change to the menu. A giant spill. And no time to run back home or the office to deal with it. Emergency kit to the rescue! Looking for a FREE emergency kit packing list? Download our printable below. ![]()

Phone: 970-613-1455 or 303-886-3068 Holiday party season will be here before we know it, which means it’s time to start planning your company holiday party. Read on to find out how to host a company party, with our My Big Day event planning experts’ list of dos and don’ts. DO We’ve learned a thing or two after more than 16 years in the events industry. Here are our top 10 DOs for your company holiday party. Find the right date The holiday season means travel and a full social calendar for many people, so it’s important to plan early and get input on your event date. Choose several potential dates and poll employees to see which date will have the greatest attendance. Once you’ve chosen a date, book that venue – and we mean, like, yesterday. Find the right location (not the office) Since your company probably isn’t the only one throwing a holiday party this year, secure your location ASAP. Even if your office is big enough to host your party, your employees probably spend 40+ hours per week there. Why not switch it up with a fun venue downtown? Be sure to consider proximity to the office (so the travel time will be similar to the time it takes your employees to get to work), parking space, venue capacity, and amenities like a kitchen, stage, or projector wall. And don’t forget restroom access! Consider food preferences Don’t just buy the tray labeled “party food” at the grocery store. Consider your employees’ food preferences. Maybe you have a lot of vegetarians in the office, or sweet treat fanatics. A vote also comes in handy in this situation. Be sure to ask about any food allergies, particularly if that means you’ll need to keep certain foods out of the event space completely. Hire an event planner Feeling overwhelmed yet? We recommend hiring a local event planner who already knows where the venues are and what’s available. Event planners can create a timeline for your event, suggest caterers and entertainment, and make suggestions about how much food and alcohol to purchase. Let us do the heavy lifting – the holidays are busy enough. Incorporate team building Any time most of your team is in the same place is a great time to do some team-building. Your employees probably don’t want to spend their holiday party watching cheesy videos about teamwork, but there are plenty of creative alternatives. A Secret Santa or White Elephant gift exchange is a popular choice. Here are some others:
Consider an off-season party Two of the major challenges of holiday party planning – guest attendance and securing a venue – can be offset by having a party just before or just after peak holiday season. Beat the crowd with an early November event, or bust the January blues with a post-New Year’s gathering. You’ll have more venue options and fewer scheduling conflicts. Recognize your employees A holiday party is a great time to show some employee appreciation after another hectic year. Present a slideshow of accomplishments as a company or present awards to each employee. Bonus: Incorporate team-building by asking colleagues to recommend awards for each other. Consider an alcohol limit Alcohol is not uncommon at company parties, but if you’re serving it, consider having a cut-off of two or three drinks per guest. Nobody wants to drink too much, do something embarrassing in front of their colleagues, and then have to see them Monday morning. Having a drink limit allows guests to relax and enjoy themselves without taking things too far. Give a gift Gifts are a seasonally-appropriate way to show appreciation for your employees and engage in some team building. Gift exchanges are great for team bonding, and presenting employees with gifts during the holidays boosts morale throughout the year. Plan entertainment Your party entertainment may be built-in with planned activities like gift exchanges, rewards ceremonies, and other team-building exercises, but some holiday background music creates a fun ambience. Bluetooth speakers are budget-friendly, while a DJ or live musician is lively and memorable. If you don’t have any activities planned, consider making your holiday party an outing to a play or comedy performance. DON’TS Unfortunately, we’ve also learned a thing or two NOT to do when planning a company event after 15 years in the biz. Download the FREE printable below and avoid the top 10 mistakes companies make when planning an event. ![]()

Our friends at Primary Event Rentals worked tirelessly to put together a stunning ceremony site and reception tent filled with perfect details. As part of MBD's marketing services, we captured the magic behind the scenes for their website and promotion purposes. While the day didn't provide much sunlight, there was still love in the air. Glass goblets, copper cups, soft white accents and warm candlelight. A giant tent that can seat 300+, huge dance floor and rustic accents fit for a ranch. Congratulations Stephanie & William!
