What kind of personality do you have? When planning your big day, your personality will play a big part in everything, from the dress to the hors d'oeuvres to the band at the reception. It is your big day, and everything about it is all about you! So what is your personality as a bride? What aspects of yourself do you want to show at your wedding? Are you sporty or a dreamer? Are you all about the latest clothing styles or the latest gardening styles? Choosing your bridal personality is about narrowing it down to what you want to show about yourself in your wedding. Sometimes we need help narrowing it down. After all, there is so much to our personalities that it’s hard to know where to begin! Hopefully these suggestions can provide inspiration to find your bridal personality! Hobbies and Interests Our hobbies and interests can tell us a lot about our personalities. Sports, gaming, or business pursuits hint at ambition and a competitive nature. A gardener or artist has to have the quality of patience to succeed. Healthcare or volunteer workers have a compassionate quality that motivates them to do for others, and fashionistas spend a lot of money and time making themselves beautiful, like living works of art. Your hobbies and interests are more than just things you like to do. They actually say a lot about your personality! Horoscopes and Totems Many people believe that one’s personality is determined by the date of their birth. Chinese, Celtic, and Western astrologers all have their own systems. Other cultures associate personalities with animal totems or phases of the Moon. Astrologers will tell you to explore what “feels” right, and what that means is to select the system you most identify with and see what it has to say about your personality. It might be a fun thing to do with your bridesmaids, or it might teach you something significant about yourself! Ancestry Research Maybe your heritage is a big part of who you are. Maybe you celebrate your ethnic cooking or cultural trades. Maybe you don’t know anything about your background and want to find out before the wedding. Doing some ancestry research can be a huge way to infuse your personality into your wedding and the planning of it. Talking to family members (your elder family can be invaluable here!) or researching online can give you a lot of insights into your heritage, which can in turn be of great influence on your wedding and reception! Personality Tests Psychology is a young discipline, barely over a century old, but it has come a long way since the first studies of human behavior took place. There are many personality tests out there that classify you based on your answers to questions posed about your attitudes and goals, likes, dislikes, and beliefs. By examining a variety of parameters, these tests might give you some clues about your personality that you didn’t notice about yourself before. They might also highlight the benefits of a feature you’ve noticed but never took pride in. Taking a deep look at yourself might just be what it takes to find your bridal personality! There are lots of ways to find out the things about yourself that you want to showcase when your big day comes. Getting married is all about celebrating the love of the bride and groom, and both your personality signatures will be all over the event. So remember that finding your bridal personality begins and ends with you!

Other times, we are fortunate enough to work with a couple, crafting and creating THE perfect day from start to finish. While we are always happy to fill either role, crafting a couple’s dream wedding vision from start to finish is always a labor of love and considered a privilege. Craig & Catherine Harrison had a vision for their Big Day, and we had the privilege of making that dream come true during their September 16, 2017 ranch wedding. Craig and Catherine dreamed of celebrating with friends and family on their family owned ranch located just outside of Timnath, Colorado. Their expansive property was the perfect place to not only be wed to to each other, but to also combine their love of their new longhorn cattle herd operation and new show barn, with Catherine’s fondness of all things glamorous and shiny! Open pastures, bubbling brooks, and painted mountains provided the perfect backdrop for this dream wedding, and the newly constructed show barn offered the perfect spot for a festive cocktail hour and dancing. As wedding planners, we always have an eye for detail - small details and touches pack a punch and can pull everything together. Catherine was all about the details - from the feminine and soft floral arrangements hand picked and held in family heirloom vases, to the old books and picture frames, repurposed as barn decor. She pulled this vision of “high sophistication with a rustic flare” together with antique furniture, lace and tulle, wine barrels, and candlelight provided by sparkly votive jars. The floral arrangements that were placed throughout the ceremony site, barn, and dining tent were simply stunning. Our job of pulling all of the details together began early on September 16. Our team oversaw the set up the ceremony site and stage - complete with a hand made lectern provided by our groom, Craig. We worked closely with florist, Lace and Lillies as well as baker, Sarah B's Bakery, to place floral displays throughout the venue, as well as a delicious dessert bar, located in the barn. Caterers Juli y Juan, and their team worked to create flawless displays of tasty dishes, hand picked by the bride and groom for their guests. First look and pre-ceremony photos took place throughout the property, and were lovingly captured by Ash Meier Weddings and Arcadian Pictures. Once guests arrived, we really got to work, making sure all the moving parts of the beautiful ceremony took place. The groom and all of the attendants (all grown children and grandchildren of both Craig and Catherine) departed to the far end of the ranch property to gather in the little truck, purchased and remodeled for the wedding celebration. Catherine and her little flower girl waited up at the couple’s home, ready to be brought down to the ceremony site in a beautiful horse drawn carriage, fit for a princess. The timing was perfect, and it was almost like a scene from a movie - the little red truck carrying the wedding party drove over a picturesque bridge to the ceremony site, arriving just in time for Catherine to meet them in her horse drawn carriage. The ceremony was led by close friend, and match-maker Bill Warren, and guests watched as Craig and Catherine read their hand-written vows and exchanged rings. The acoustical music of the Jonathan Moody Band added the perfect romantic flare to the beautiful ceremony, set facing the setting mountain sun. Once the ceremony concluded, guests made their way to the show barn for a generous cocktail hour - complete with 3 bars! Dinner was served in an adjoining tent, with beautiful table decor, placed lovingly by the bride, Catherine, and Juli & Juan’s staff. Following dinner, the party really kicked off with dancing and drinking under the light of the evening stars, right outside of the the barn. Guests could kick up their heels dancing to the Jonathan Moody Band, or they could choose to mingle around the wine barrel tables inside of the barn, or out near the fire pit, where a Cigar Bar was set for guests to try out. The evening was full of fun, friends, family, and love! Craig and Catherine’s vision and dream was a success and perhaps, one of the most beautiful events we have had the pleasure of being a part of. We see many more parties and celebrations taking place in this beautiful spot, and we wish Craig and Catherine all the best as they begin their new life together!

Mackenzie and Allison will wed this upcoming August. Mackenzie's family hosted the shower in their home. Her mom, Nancy, is known for her martini parties. Their deck became 3 martini stations, where guests could mix their own drinks. A new food truck in town served up some amazing eats! And a dessert display took over the kitchen, with tons of bite sized sweets.

Check out our one year old's Fishing Themed birthday party! "The Big ONE" A tackle box, wood stumps, picture frames, lake quotes, fish scale cupcake liners, fish net, cut-out fish, number 1, wooden box, blue sparkly 'shimmery lake' fabric, fishing net, oar, fish cupcakes, fish cookies, and meringue 'fish farts' cookies completed this display. We replaced the pot rack with a fishing net filled with water colored balloons, and fish cut-outs. The kitchen island was covered in sparkly blue 'lake' fabric, and surrounded by 3 tiers of bed skirts, a variety of blue colors. The food was all fishing themed, of course! Lake water, fresh water, submarine sandwiches, seashell pasta, sailboat eggs, fish food (fruit salad), seaweed salad (spinach dip), worms (Cheetos), and PB & Jellyfish sandwiches. The guest of honor had his highchair placed between his gifts. Behind him was some blue shimmery fabric, covered by a net. The fishing net had photos of him pinned with clothespins. If you are in need of some party planning help, give us a ring! We love a theme! Event Planners: My Big Day Ceremony: Devil's Thumb Ranch Reception: Devil's Thumb Ranch - Broad Axe Barn Photographer: David Lynn Photography Video: Amazing Wedding Movies Florist: Plum Sage Rentals: Event Rents Music: Hipster Mama Productions - by Christine Forster, My Big Day Last night I was so looking forward to a nice, relaxing evening at my nail salon... ahhh.... one hour in a massage chair, getting a pedicure, reading wedding magazines. But that's not how the night played out. The salon was hopping - nearly every chair was taken. I was sat next to a loud, abrasive brunette and her friend who were having a little bit of a girls night. The brunette clearly didn't notice the soothing whimsical music in the background and chairs lined with ladies reclined with their eyes closed. Her voice carried across the entire salon. She spoke as if her words of wisdom were meant for everyone there.
For a full hour I sat and listened to opinion after opinion and bad advice after bad advice. The poor bride was exhausted by the brunette, I could tell. Never once did her friend/bridesmaid ask her how she was feeling or what she would like. She just gave advice as if she were a seasoned pro. Things to leave up to the Pros:
So... did I step in and call the Bad Bridesmaid out?
No. I could have passed the bride my card and offered to help, but some situations aren't worth jumping in the middle of. Let's hope the bride comes to her senses and decides to hire a pro! |
