Analyzing what we have booked this year, what our clients are talking about, what we are learning in the courses we take, and reading what our industry partners have to say.... here is what you can expect from meetings and events in 2023. 2023 Event Forecast and Trends Colorado’s economy is expected to continue growing in 2023 — slowly. This is good news. Colorado’s economy is expected to grow slightly in 2023 — by a little over 1 percent, and inflation is predicted to drop to 4.6 percent according to the December economic forecast from Legislative Council Staff, the state’s nonpartisan fiscal analysts. While we may see some hesitation to spend big in some areas of business... economic growth helps with consumer confidence. Meeting professionals expect in-person events and budgets to increase in 2023, according to American Express Meetings & Events. The 12th annual Global Meetings & Events Forecast found that more than three quarters (77 per cent) of respondents are optimistic about the health of the industry heading into 2023 (rating eight or above out of 10) – a six-point increase compared to last year’s survey. And when it comes to budgets, just under two thirds (65 per cent) said that overall M&E spend is increasing for 2023. MBD engages closely with Cvent and always anticipates their annual report. Below are Cvent’s 14 Meeting & Event Trends for 2023 Trend 1 – Planners are not only planning more meetings, they anticipate a surge in future bookings. Trend 2 – There’s a renewed focus on return on time/experience/investment for attendees, especially as costs increase. Trend 3 – Social activism will play a big role in how meetings are planned. Trend 4 – Hotels need to adapt to “a triple threat” (in-person, hybrid and virtual). Trend 5 – Event planners will refocus on and prioritize health and wellness activities. Trend 6 – Planners are choosing leisure destinations more frequently, perhaps even over metro centers. Trend 7 – Virtual reality is no longer just for video games. It may soon make event planning easier and more efficient. Trend 8 – Google’s shift away from third-party cookies will impact online advertising strategies. Trend 9 – Smaller meetings may increasingly become a preferred option, especially for luxury events. Trend 10 – Special events will increasingly become multiday celebrations. Trend 11 – In-person meetings are a vital part of maintaining and rebuilding workplace culture. Trend 12 – Reaching event planners with influencer marketing and placing additional emphasis on video content will become more common. Trend 13 – An increased focus on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the meetings and events industry. Trend 14 – New planners increasingly seek out special venues, outdoor events and unique settings. Colorado is especially well-suited for trends 5, 6, 10, and 14 when working with planners seeking health and wellness activities, leisure destinations, multiday offerings, and unique/outdoor settings. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) also is at the forefront. Meetings + Events Magazine predicts significant meeting & event recovery in 2023. As reporting just weeks ago, in an update to its U.S. Meetings Recovery Forecast (MRF) released late last year, Knowland predicts that 2023 will be a year of growth and not just another year of recovery. The company, known for providing data insights on meetings and events for the hospitality industry, also offered an updated Top 25 U.S. Meetings Recovery Forecast (MRF25). Knowland added the MRF25 in February 2022 examine industry recovery patterns for the top 25 U.S. markets. These cities include Anaheim, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Oahu Island, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C. Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has released their Fall 2022 Meetings Outlook report that indicates that many meeting professionals are reporting their business is back to pre-pandemic levels. However, rising costs and insufficient resources (both staff and budgets) are expected to be trends in 2023. Price hikes have hit virtually every area of the industry, with 64% of planners and suppliers calling it a seller’s market. As a result, 78% are seeking new revenue opportunities for their meetings and events. While 65% expect their budgets to increase in 2023, the growth likely won’t keep pace with rising costs. Staffing is still an issue, with 62% of survey respondents indicating they are still having trouble filling staff vacancies. A year ago, only 3% or respondents said their business levels had returned to pre-pandemic levels. Now, 32% indicate full recovery with 31% implying it will happen sometime in 2023 and the remaining 37% in 2024 or later. Great news! The MBD Marketing & Events team has seen first-hand an increase in meetings, events and retreats. What we have noticed most is that clients are looking for NEW and CREATIVE ways to meet, connect and engage. We pride ourselves on our resourcefulness, connections and creativity. We anticipate growth in 2023 and even more so in 2024. Making Business Personal

The couple (and Mother of the Bride) paid close attention to every single detail to create a beautiful day complete with many special personal touches. The result was an unforgettable day of beauty, fun, and love! My Big Day was honored to be a part of this special celebration of their lovestory! Guests were ushered around the stunning venue hall to a comfortable breezeway that overlooked the mountains and surrounding forest of The Woodlands just outside of Morrison, CO. They were encouraged to mingle over cool drinks and games of cornhole, or take advantage of comfy lounge chairs overlooking the venue grounds while they waited to be ushered to the ceremony site. The simple arbor that stood at the front of the ceremony isle matched the shape of the mountains that surrounded the beautiful site. Ciara and Shane took advantage of the views and nature for their decor, choosing to add only two large ferns at the back of the seating area. Guests were given packets of rose petals that they tossed after the touching ceremony and celebratory “I Do’s”! The bride wore a beautiful lace and beaded gown while her groom looked handsome in a deep burgundy suit. The men looked dashing in black while the bridesmaids and flower girls shimmered in gold. Florals were kept sleek and simple with bouquets of gathered greenery with pops of white provided by large Mums. The reception hall was full of a mix of farmhouse tables, round banquet tables, and high-tops, encouraging guests to mingle while sampling delicious treats from the many food stations set around the room. Ciara and Shane spent extra time creating a very personalized menu that mixed food from special trips and moments in their lovestory. They had signage explaining the significance of each dish served. The food provided a window into some of the most special moments of their courtship. From the food to the decor to the unique touches like kissing bells and a telephone guest book, this wedding was a memorable affair. It was wonderful to walk with Ciara and Shane through their planning process, and an honor to celebrate with them on their Big Day! We have a record number of weddings on the books for 2022, and one question we keep getting from our couples is: What Colorado venues allow me to bring my own alcohol? With mobile bars and micro weddings still trending for the coming year, more and more couples are exploring wedding venues that allow them to bring in their own alcohol, with or without the requirement of a licensed bartender to serve it. In all cases – based on years of experience and hundreds of weddings – we strongly recommend that you have a TIPS-certified bartender serve your guests. TIPS-certified bartenders are trained to prevent underage drinking; limit that guest who has already had plenty; prevent attendees from driving impaired; and properly report any incidents that do arise for insurance and law enforcement purposes – which benefits you and your venue. Our own My Big Day team is TIPS-certified and provides bartending by the hour through On the Rocks, northern Colorado’s own luxury mobile bar and tap service. Contact us now, and let My Big Day and On the Rocks keep the drinks and the big day flowing smoothly. Still researching wedding venues? Small Business. Big Impact. Phone: 970-613-1455 or 303-886-3068 Email Us We serve the entire Front Range; Denver, Southern Wyoming, the CO Mountains, and Northern Colorado: Loveland, Fort Collins, Greeley, Windsor, Berthoud, Estes Park, Lyons, Longmont, Boulder, Wellington, Johnstown, Evans, Severance, Timnath, Mead, Frederick, Firestone, Milliken Many couples – including some of our My Big Day couples – are opting to elope rather than postpone or cancel weddings due to Covid-19. We did the work and searched lists of unique elopement locations in Colorado and Wyoming – here are our top 5 picks for each state.
2. Maroon Bells (Aspen) – These incredible mountains are Colorado’s most photographed spot. What to know: You must reserve the amphitheater for a $200 fee to have your ceremony at the Bells. Slots are released a year in advance, and regular Bells guests are still allowed to visit the site, so weekdays are your best bet. Plan for afternoon thunderstorms in the summer. If you want fall colors, aim for September. Consider going early for stunning sunrise ceremony photos and no tourists photobombing your wedding. If you have urgent questions about your wedding or conditions at the Bells, you’ll need to call the ranger station. 3. Denver Botanic Gardens at York Street (Denver) – The gardens offer a wide range of backdrops, from water and rose gardens to greenhouses. Another perk: The downtown Denver location makes this a convenient site for couples. What to know: Fees vary by location in the gardens, and it can be pricey, but you will save on travel fees from your florist, photographer, and officiant. You can bring your own alcohol for an intimate couples’ champagne toast. Click HERE to submit an inquiry. 4. Pikes Peak (Colorado Springs) – This scenic mountaintop offers a view all the way to Kansas on clear days. What to know: No need to hike – weather permitting, you can drive to the top of Pikes Peak. No permits and no fees, but keep in mind that tourists can come and go throughout your ceremony and no décor is allowed. 5. Guanella Pass (Georgetown) – A valley with breathtaking blue-green hills and water features. This is a fantastic backdrop for moody photos that are even more stunning during cloudy summer afternoons. What to know: No permits, no fees, no reservations. Wyoming 1. St. Alban’s Chapel (Centennial) – Historic, open-air chapel surrounded by beautiful scenery, including a lake. What to know: The chapel is usually accessible only in the late summer. It must be reserved for a small fee through St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Despite being called a chapel, the structure is very old and not quite a building, so there are no restrooms. You will not be allowed to decorate the structure because of its age, but you won’t need to! 2. Lake Marie (Medicine Bow National Forest) – A beautiful, green-blue lake with a snowy mountain backdrop. What to know: This location is drive-up friendly, but only accessible during the late summer when Highway 130 is open. Click HERE to see whether the area is currently open. No permits, no fees, no guaranteed reservations. 3. Schwabacher Landing (Grand Teton National Park) – A spectacular viewpoint on Snake River with easy access to the water and reflections of the majestic Teton Mountains. What to know: Snowy spring and winter weather can make the gravel road impassable, so plan for a summer or fall ceremony. Bring your camera for wildlife sightings. No permits, no fees, no guaranteed reservations and no decorations allowed. Note that the area is popular with fishermen and tourists snapping photos. 4. The Wedding Tree (Jackson Hole) – Aptly named, the tree provides a natural arch to get married under with a view of the Grand Tetons in the background. What to know: You will need to take a trail from the parking lot (about 5 minutes), and then get off the trail to access the tree, so carry your heels and put them on at the tree. Camping is no longer allowed. A permit is required; contact the Bridger-Teton National Forest Office at (307) 739-5500. Aim for a fall or summer event so the roads aren’t snowed out. 5. Albany County Courthouse (Laramie) – If the wilderness isn’t your style, consider getting married at the Albany County Courthouse in Laramie and taking photos in front of the picturesque building. What to know: You will need to make your own arrangements for an officiant. If you would like to get married in the courthouse, there are several judges who perform marriage ceremonies, or you may bring your own ordained minister; contact information can be found HERE. As with any wedding in Wyoming, a marriage license is required prior to the ceremony. Ceremony fees vary by officiant. Same-sex marriages are allowed under Wyoming law. You don’t have to cancel your wedding if you were planning to get married this year. We believe the only ingredients required for a wedding are two people who want to spend their lives together.
