PRE-WEDDING EMERGENCY CHECKLIST FROM MBD MARKETING & EVENTS

10/15/2022

"Hope for the best and plan for the worst."
Your big day is just days away. The RSVPs are in, dresses tailored and catering confirmed.
What could go wrong? No wedding – no matter how well-planned and well-run – is
immune to the occasional crisis or disaster. Knock on wood and consider this prewedding
emergency checklist:
Picture
Know your venue and its contacts.
There is a leak in the women's bathroom. Before your guests ruin their shoes, know who
the contacts are for your venue. Work with them to have a plan B in case of maintenance
emergencies, weather or other unforeseen situations.

Same for vendors.
Only 85 chairs were delivered instead of 100. Who do you call? Having a clear list of all
vendor contacts - and distributing it to all members of your event team - is critical to
managing emergencies on the fly.

Be familiar with evacuation plans and emergency exits.
The fire alarm is going off. What now? Have a plan for how you will evacuate your guests -
and communicate the need to do so. Having a PA system, bullhorn or whistle in your
emergency kit can help you get the attention of a crowd. Identify staff or volunteers in
advance to help guide guests to emergency exits.

Print it out.
Having copies of all guest lists, permits, contracts, contact numbers, maps, layouts, etc. can
be a lifesaver. We all love trees and live in a digital world, but there's nothing like a visual in
case of an emergency. Being able to show someone on a map where the extra chairs go or
how you are going to move things around is critical. Additionally, you can handoff paper
much more easily than a tablet when delegating tasks or information. Have enough
copies for everyone and a few extras, just in case.
Picture
Have an emergency kit packed and ready.
You have things that are moving that shouldn't. Things that aren't moving that should. A
change to the menu. A giant spill. And no time to run back home or the office to deal
with it. Emergency kit to the rescue!

Don't go it alone.
Rather than dealing with emergencies yourself, why not kick up your heels and enjoy
your wedding. Let MBD Marketing & Events take on the heavy lifting, so you can dance
the night away!

Team Building Activities to Foster Healthy Work Relationships

9/26/2022

What is a corporate recipe for success when it comes to building healthy and successful professional (workplace) relationships? A sprinkling of a positive company culture that promotes interaction and connection between coworkers.

How do employers promote these connections? Easily through team-building activities and exercises. Team building exercises or activities are games, meetings, experiences and events that are designed to motivate group members to get to know and respect each other - often times on a different level that what they are used to in the office.

While often silly or far from “work-related”, team-building exercises are activities that are thoughtfully designed to encourage teamwork. They produce a variety of benefits, including - thoughtful communication between participants (coworkers), motivation to try new approaches to problem solving, creative thinking, and building trust.
Picture
The 5 main types of corporate team-building

Ultimately, the activities you choose to focus on depend on your goals. Some experiences are strictly designed to foster relationship building, while others focus more on developing specific skills.

There are 5 main types of team-building:
  1. Icebreakers
  2. Communication
  3. Problem-solving
  4. Creative Thinking
  5. Employee Bonding

Icebreakers
Quick games and icebreaker activities are a great way to kick-off a professional gathering. They are often used to motivate employees to participate. Some easy meeting icebreakers are:
  • The Human Knot: In this activity a group stands in a circle and grabs the hands of someone across from them. Once everyone is connected they must work together to untangle without letting go of their hands.
  • Two truths and a lie: Each group member van share two facts and one lie about themselves. The rest of the group must guess the lie.

Communication

Activities that focus on healthy and thoughtful communication patterns are a great way to develop strong communication skills in a low-risk environment.
  • Team Scavenger Hunt: Teams can be on the hunt for a predetermined list of objects or locations to find.

My Big Day Marketing & Events
has developed a variety of scavenger hunts for corporate clients – some focusing on the communication part, some focusing on fun.
  • Escape Rooms:
Escape rooms are the ultimate exercise in healthy communication! Teams must work together to solve clues and complete challenges before their time in the room runs out. Groups that focus on good listening and transparent communication usually find success!
  • Take a Cooking Class together: Divide into pairs or teams for some culinary fun! A successful and tasty dish will require open communication!
Picture

Problem Solving

Activities that focus on creative problem solving often lead to better results in the workplace. Escape Rooms could again be used to hone these skills, but here are a few other activities that will help your group find creative solutions to challenges:
  • Board Games:  Games that require bartering or trading are great for boosting problem solving and communication skills. Think Settlers of Catan and the like.
  • Water Balloon Toss: In this activity, employees are divided into pairs. These pairs must toss a water balloon back and forth, taking a step further back between each toss. Sometimes this can be done with two pairs of employees who catch and throw the balloon using a beach towel.

Creative Thinking
Encouraging creativity in play often translates to success in the board room!
  • Pictionary: Another party/board game, this one really gets the creativity flowing. Divide into teams. Ask the teams to draw a series of random objects, people, events, or phrases for their teammates to guess. The team with the most correct guesses wins.

Employee Bonding
Happy people produce good work! You can encourage relationship building outside of the office with these suggestions:
  • Group volunteering experiences: Find a cause that aligns with  your organization and gather your group together to help out.
  • Karaoke night: A great and fun out-of-office experience. Who knows - you might have a singing superstar on staff
Picture
My Big Day Marketing and Events has a team of professional planners and facilitators who can help you plan engaging activities for your team. We can develop an itinerary that will help you reach your team-bonding goals, which in turn will help you find success - both in and out of the office!

Top 10 Reasons to Book Your 2022 Holiday Party NOW!

4/28/2022

If it seems like we’re reminding you to plan your holiday party earlier than in previous years, you’re not wrong – but now is the time to book your 2022 corporate or private holiday party with MBD Marketing & Events.

As the world opened up in 2021, demand for venues, hotel rooms, plane tickets, and event rentals skyrocketed. At the same time, economic difficulties and massive staff shortages have dominated the events industry. We’re already scouting venues for our holiday party clients so they can have the best of the best.

If you want the best of the best too, the time to reserve your ideal venue is NOW. Check out our holiday party planning timeline and checklist if you need help getting started.
Picture
Here are 10 reasons to book your holiday party early:

Get Your First Choice Date

Whether your date has special meaning, employees have already voted on their availability, or you anticipate a lull between projects that would be the perfect time for your coworkers to let loose, the sooner you book, the more likely you are to secure your ideal date.

You’ll want to avoid conflict with other major holiday events that are already booked, which could hamper attendance to your event. The sooner you secure your venue, the sooner you can claim that date as your own.

Guest Attendance

Between family obligations, spouse work functions, and personal holiday traditions, your potential guests are pulled in many different directions during the holiday season. Boost attendance numbers by planning early, so invitees will plan around your event.

Venue Choice

It’s not news that venues book early, and the best ones book up first. If you’re set on a particular venue – or, in this crazy year, want to find one at all – start making phone calls now. If you book with an event planner, like MBD Marketing & Events, we’ll do that heavy lifting for you and use our network of clients and partners to give you the best chance of securing your dream event space.

Vendor Availability

Just like venues, vendors book well in advance, and the best are in highest demand. If you have a favorite caterer, are eager to reserve that up-and-coming deejay, or want better quality photos than you got last year, now is your chance to reserve these vendors.
Picture
Staff Shortages

Historic staff shortages in the event industry have affected almost every aspect of every event we’ve managed in 2022. By planning early, you can:

  • Increase your chances of finding a venue with enough staffing to host your event
  • Give yourself flexibility
  • Allow time to deal with cancellations or required changes to your event
  • Give your venue as much notice as possible, so they can spend the coming months working to accommodate your requests

Venues, vendors, your event planner, and YOU will all appreciate the extra time to work through unexpected challenges that come with current conditions in the events industry.

Avoid Holiday Rush Pricing

As in any business, supply and demand affect consumer pricing. While venues may have holiday rates set well in advance, holiday travel and accommodation prices skyrocket as demand approaches its peak. Give yourself and your guests time to shop for the best deals by reserving your holiday party date now.

Early Booking Discounts

Not only does early booking mean you can avoid spending more than necessary, you may even be able to save. Some venues, vendors, and travel companies – though not all – offer discounts for early booking. Whether you’re able to secure these discounts or not, booking early gives your vendors the best chance at exceeding your expectations, which means you’re more likely to walk away satisfied.
Picture
Time to Think Outside the Box

An epic holiday party requires a lot of planning. Even the most creative pros have trouble throwing together a legendary even last-minute. Securing your date and venue early gives you more time to explore the best entertainment options, and even come up with some unique event activities of your own. Our team meets months ahead of our clients’ events for brainstorming sessions to get our creative juices flowing and create something extra special just for you.

Build Excitement

The longer your guests know an event is coming, the more excited they’ll be! Anticipation gives everyone something to look forward to, which is a great boost to your friends’ moods or your employees’ morale and productivity. Give your guests the holiday gift of something fun in the forecast.

Less Stress

Before you know it, you’ll find your own calendar filling up with holiday family gatherings, work commitments, and nights out with friends. Give yourself space to breathe by starting the planning process early. By the time you start receiving phone calls and invites in the mail, you can give yourself a pat on the back knowing your event is ready to go and your VIPs have already RSVP’d.

When you book with MBD Marketing & Events, we do all the heavy lifting. Our holidays are already filling up with contracts, so book ASAP with our team of creative, experienced event planners for an unforgettable company holiday party.

Creativity Calls - MBD Answers!

4/26/2022

Picture
We love it when we get calls out of the blue from a company who needs help with creativity! It's what we do best! We met our new friends at DBC Irrigation in 2021 when everyone what facing similar pandemic problems with events. We created a HUGE backpack fundraiser for A Precious Child (501c3) that was an engaging team-building activity. And we helped to provide hundreds of students with backpacks for the 21-22 school year, while giving the DBC staff a unique team building activity!
DBC called again and asked us to create a unique Spring luncheon event that was FUN, CREATIVE, ENGAGING and would help they to raise money while employees have a great time.
We created a musically delightful and silly day at the Denver Museum of Art.
All smiles - all day --- and we were able to donate $20,000 to 3 local charities who are supporting the families affected by the Marshall Fire!
Colorado Pet Pantry + Sister Carmen Community Center + Future Arts Foundation of Colorado are the charities that received this incredible support!
Thank you to Dick Knapp Photography for capturing the fun, HOWE Eventful for the Music Trivia and the Denver Museum of Art for hosting us!

Colorado Venues That Allow BRING YOUR OWN Alcohol

1/25/2022

My Big Day Marketing & Events has worked with many wedding venues in our 15+ years in business. We have a record number of weddings on the books for 2022, and one question we keep getting from our couples is: What Colorado venues allow me to bring my own alcohol?

With mobile bars and micro weddings still trending for the coming year, more and more couples are exploring wedding venues that allow them to bring in their own alcohol, with or without the requirement of a licensed bartender to serve it.

In all cases – based on years of experience and hundreds of weddings – we strongly recommend that you have a TIPS-certified bartender serve your guests. TIPS-certified bartenders are trained to prevent underage drinking; limit that guest who has already had plenty; prevent attendees from driving impaired; and properly report any incidents that do arise for insurance and law enforcement purposes – which benefits you and your venue.

Our own My Big Day team is TIPS-certified and provides bartending by the hour through On the Rocks, northern Colorado’s own luxury mobile bar and tap service. Contact us now, and let My Big Day and On the Rocks keep the drinks and the big day flowing smoothly.

Planning Indoor Birthday Parties in Northern Colorado 2021-2022

10/20/2021

The event industry is closer to “normal” than this time last year, and venues are responding to the pandemic in different ways. We know many of you have safety concerns but still want to give your child the birthday party they’ve been asking for, especially if they missed out last year. Of course, every family is different – we encourage you to make the best decision for your family’s safety.

One of our clients is The Family Center/La Familia.  They serve families and children in Northern Colorado. Our team has compiled a list of indoor Colorado kids’ birthday party venues still operating this winter (2021). Visit the links below for more information about each venue’s protocols and restrictions.

Happy planning!
