A guest blog by our friends, MyWedStyle.com Wedding party members invest a lot of time, money and energy into a bride and groom’s special day. So, why not treat them to a gift they’ll always treasure? If you need help choosing the perfect gift for each member of your bridal party, we’ve rounded up a few of the most popular (and classic) bridal party gift ideas:
5. Tote bags: Treat your bridal party to a personalized tote or beach bag as a wedding souvenir. Bags can always be re-used for errands, at the beach or carrying groceries. 6. Stationary: Custom or monogrammed stationary is a classic bridal party gift (and one that keeps giving every time a person sends a thank you note or letter). 7. Beauty sets: Curate a few of your (and your bridesmaids’) favorite beauty items and gift the collection to help pamper your bridal party members. 8. Gift cards: Gift cards are always welcome gifts, and even more special when they’re personalized with a unique experience to share (i.e., rock climbing, a day at the spa or a trip to the driving range). ****************************************** With the right thank you gifts, your bridal party will feel as special as you do on your wedding day! For more bridal party gift idea inspiration, check out MyWedStyle.com. What kind of personality do you have? When planning your big day, your personality will play a big part in everything, from the dress to the hors d'oeuvres to the band at the reception. It is your big day, and everything about it is all about you! So what is your personality as a bride? What aspects of yourself do you want to show at your wedding? Are you sporty or a dreamer? Are you all about the latest clothing styles or the latest gardening styles? Choosing your bridal personality is about narrowing it down to what you want to show about yourself in your wedding. Sometimes we need help narrowing it down. After all, there is so much to our personalities that it’s hard to know where to begin! Hopefully these suggestions can provide inspiration to find your bridal personality! Hobbies and Interests Our hobbies and interests can tell us a lot about our personalities. Sports, gaming, or business pursuits hint at ambition and a competitive nature. A gardener or artist has to have the quality of patience to succeed. Healthcare or volunteer workers have a compassionate quality that motivates them to do for others, and fashionistas spend a lot of money and time making themselves beautiful, like living works of art. Your hobbies and interests are more than just things you like to do. They actually say a lot about your personality! Horoscopes and Totems Many people believe that one’s personality is determined by the date of their birth. Chinese, Celtic, and Western astrologers all have their own systems. Other cultures associate personalities with animal totems or phases of the Moon. Astrologers will tell you to explore what “feels” right, and what that means is to select the system you most identify with and see what it has to say about your personality. It might be a fun thing to do with your bridesmaids, or it might teach you something significant about yourself! Ancestry Research Maybe your heritage is a big part of who you are. Maybe you celebrate your ethnic cooking or cultural trades. Maybe you don’t know anything about your background and want to find out before the wedding. Doing some ancestry research can be a huge way to infuse your personality into your wedding and the planning of it. Talking to family members (your elder family can be invaluable here!) or researching online can give you a lot of insights into your heritage, which can in turn be of great influence on your wedding and reception! Personality Tests Psychology is a young discipline, barely over a century old, but it has come a long way since the first studies of human behavior took place. There are many personality tests out there that classify you based on your answers to questions posed about your attitudes and goals, likes, dislikes, and beliefs. By examining a variety of parameters, these tests might give you some clues about your personality that you didn’t notice about yourself before. They might also highlight the benefits of a feature you’ve noticed but never took pride in. Taking a deep look at yourself might just be what it takes to find your bridal personality! There are lots of ways to find out the things about yourself that you want to showcase when your big day comes. Getting married is all about celebrating the love of the bride and groom, and both your personality signatures will be all over the event. So remember that finding your bridal personality begins and ends with you!
Your wedding day is likely something you have looked forward to most of your life. You’ve been dreaming of it for years, and now that you are engaged, you cannot wait for the big day to get here. Be sure to prepare yourself for the road between your engagement and the main event. Wedding planning can be extremely stressful and exhausting, not to mention the strain it can put on relationships. With these tips, you can help alleviate some of that stress so you can focus on the fun. 1. Know yourself, know what you want. Of course, you want to take your parents, your grandparents, and your friends’ opinions into account, but remember this is your wedding (meaning yours and your partners). Be sure to gauge your emotions and how those weigh on what is important to you in planning your day. Take care to nurture your feelings while also taking others’ into account and handling any disagreements with them tactfully and gracefully. This will prevent conflict and controversy and keep everyone on the same page. 2. Choose your wedding party carefully. Number 1 brings us to Number 2. Be selective in who you choose to surround yourself with while planning and carrying out your wedding. Your bridal party should be comprised of family and friends who know you well, have seen you at your best and worst, and can handle all those ups and downs right along with you. Having people whose opinions you value and you know you can lean on can help you manage tough decisions and the emotional roller-coaster that can accompany planning a wedding 3. Plan ahead. Most wedding planners will recommend starting the planning process 12-16 months ahead of time and to create an all-encompassing checklist. This allows you plenty of time to secure your venue, book your service vendors (think florist, caterer, DJ or band, photographer, etc., etc.), find the perfect dress for you and your bridesmaids and have them altered, order your invitations, and still allow time to make changes or rectify any mistakes that pop up along the way. Waiting until the last minute to plan can lead to difficulty finding availability for everything from a pastor to flights for the honeymoon. You want your big day to go off without a hitch and be magical, not a chaotic hodgepodge, so plan far in advance. 4. Use referrals. Piggybacking off of number 3, use referrals when booking your vendors and service providers. Ask your friends who they used, research local resource guides, and ask for references. Don’t be afraid to ask questions to make sure you know exactly what you are paying for, and they have no question as to what your expectations are. Done in conjunction with plenty of time and planning, this will allow time for any wrinkles to be ironed out. 5. Sweat it out. Be sure to exercise regularly during your wedding planning. Not only will this keep you in shape and prevent stress eating from packing on pounds, exercising will help you work out the stress, clear your mind, and keep you focused. Whether you prefer yoga, hitting the trails, or cross training, maintaining a regular exercise routine is key in counterbalancing stress. Not only will you look fabulous in your dress, you will be relaxed and on top of your game for your big day. 6. Eat healthy. As mentioned above, this can be a very stressful time. Eating a healthy diet packed with all your essential vitamins and minerals will help your body combat stress and stay healthy. You don’t want to be run down or have a weakened immune system and end up sick. Balance this with plenty of water and enough sleep so you will be looking and feeling your best on the big day. 7. Remember to have fun. So often brides get so caught up in the planning that they forget to actually enjoy the experience of planning their wedding and walking down the aisle. This is likely the biggest decision you have ever made and the beginning of a new life together. Embrace all that comes with it and know that even if things don’t go exactly perfect, the most important aspect of it all is enjoying this time with your partner. Take it all in and make the day yours to remember together for a lifetime. Planning a wedding is a huge task, but with planning and care, it can be an exciting, enjoyable journey. Using the tips above can help you manage the stress and keep your focus on sharing this experience and starting your life together on a happy note. ***And don't forget -- Hiring a Wedding Planner will give you peace of mind and can even help SAVE you money!
Fall weddings have always been a favorite of ours and My Big Day, and Nicole & Tyler’s beautiful fall ranch wedding was no exception! Hosted by the fine folks of Ellis Ranch outside of Loveland, Nicole and Tyler crafted the perfect celebration of love that merged her love of all things shiny and sparkly and his love of BBQ and the Broncos! There were special touches throughout the event, from shining votives on the dinner tables, to pops of orange and blue in the wedding bouquets and floral arrangements. Following a beautiful gazebo ceremony, guests were treated to an open bar, staffed by the talented Ellis Ranch crew, and appetizers provided by Nicole’s Father and Step-Mother. After the wedding party concluded their after-ceremony photos, the entire party moved into the dining area where Hog Wild BBQ was served, complete with brisket, shredded pork, chicken, and peach cobbler! However, for parents of little children, it can also be a dreaded affair. From the moment they receive those gorgeous invitations, their minds immediately race to how they are going to keep the kids quiet and seated during the wedding or reception. Afterall, nobody wants to be THAT family who ruined your special day. We all know planning a wedding can be time consuming and stressful. There are a million things to accomplish on our to-do lists without compromising our work, family, friends, and relationships. Thankfully, while planning our ceremonies and receptions, there are simple steps and accommodations we can add to ensure our big days are successful and even the youngest guests are included and entertained. With a little luck and careful planning, we can keep everyone happy and enjoying the wedding. Scroll through the following 10 tips to include and entertain children during your wedding: Design wedding BINGO cards. It’s no secret that sitting quietly through wedding ceremonies can be tough for children. On a sheet of paper, create a BINGO game featuring people, items, and parts of the ceremony and hand copies out to the children as they enter. During the wedding, if children notice or find an item, they mark off the square. At the end of the ceremony they can hand in completed game sheets for a small prize. Give children a job. Kids love to help and are often eager to escape the confines of mom and dad’s watchful eyes. Give them a part in the wedding by assigning them a role in the wedding party, having them man the guest table, helping people carry gifts, ushering in family members, or passing out programs and bubbles to guests. Get colorful! Provide children crayons and coloring books that feature black and white versions of your favorite photos that show your love story. There are apps online or you can use a basic paint or photo program in a word program to transform images into black and white colorable prints. Be sure to include captions or interesting facts to add personality to the booklet. Encourage kids to “tag” their table at the reception. Channel a child’s inner artist and cover the kiddie table with butcher paper. Provide crayons, markers, or stickers to decorate the paper to occupy their interests until dinner is served. For added fun, consider supplying simple craft kits the kids can easily assemble on their own. Make them glow! Most children love glow-in-the-dark items. Purchase a variety of bracelets, balloons, necklaces, glow sticks, and more to light up the night or dance floor. Bring on the games! Encourage guests to mingle and interact by placing a variety of board or card games on a centrally located table. All guests, even children, can enjoy playing simple games between events or during the reception. For an added twist, rent or build large versions of classics like Jenga or Kerplunk. Provide kid approved snacks to curb their hunger until the meal or cake is served. There are often lulls between the ceremony, reception, cocktail hour, or dinner while the couple take pictures or travel to the venue. This can be hard on kids, especially hungry ones. Avoid meltdowns, by making sure there are snack mixes, veggie trays, meat or cracker platters, and drinks readily available to tide them over. Hand out swag bags filled with the couple’s favorite childhood items. Add a personal touch and a bit of nostalgia to the festivity by filling goodie bags with your favorite childhood candies, games, or trinkets. Children will love the gift bags and the guests will enjoy taking trip down memory lane with the bride and groom. Give kids a camera. Children love to take photographs and are eager to snap photos at the reception. You can purchase disposable cameras or use a hashtag so they can upload digital photos onto social media sites to help document the big night. For added creativity, provide a selfie station complete with props and backdrops. This is a great way to get one-of-a-kind shots and keep the kids entertained for hours. Consider providing a sitter. Give parents an opportunity to enjoy a kid-free evening by hiring a sitter to watch younger children in an adjacent room. The kids will be entertained and safely cared for, while your friends get a few minutes of adult time. Supply the babysitter with games, movies, snacks, inflatables, and activities to crank up the fun. How will you be including and entertaining children during your wedding? My Big Day loves building lasting relationships with all of our clients, so it was extra special when one of our favorites, Nancy Haboush, asked for our help with another beautiful bridal shower – this time for her God-Daughter, Ashley! Once again, set in her beautiful back-yard, Nancy chose to offer a variety of brunch treats, drinks, and delightful décor. The champagne was flowing, as were the Mimosas and Bloody Mary drinks! Fresh Plate Catering created a stunning and tasty display of delicious brunch offerings such as donut kabobs, egg pinwheels and potatoes, Bloody Mary Shooters with Shrimp, and a colorful fruit salad. Starlight Dessert Bar brought back their magical assortments of finger desserts and treats. All of Nancy’s guests enjoyed brunch while visiting with each other and playing bridal shower games. Nancy’s God-Daughter, Ashley, spent the late morning surrounded by women and family members who showered her with gifts, advice, and love. We were so excited to once again be part of such a special moment, and we wish Ashley and her fiancé all the best in their upcoming wedding!
