MBD Plans Loveland's Largest Celebration of Innovation

11/17/2022

Picture
2022 is a landmark year for the city of Loveland, CO. We celebrate 60 years since Hewlett Packard opened a massive campus in Loveland, catapulting the city into a technological hub and city known for innovation!
The building that put Loveland on the tech map sat dormant for a while after HP vacated. Today, the building has new owners and a fresh start! Known as Forge Campus, it is once again THE BUZZ of the city!

MBD Marketing & Events was prospected a number of months ago by a steering committee for the initiative called, Live Loveland, to consider helping to plan a large scale event. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into.
An incredible number of members of the community from all different backgrounds came together to give their input on what they wanted this celebration to look like. We quickly came up with a name that described what the event was for, honored the past, and celebrated the future.

With 15 events rolled into 1 massive event, the Forge Campus was celebrated, open for tours and HOPPING!
Below are all of the major activities and features offered:

  • Gitanjali Rao, AMERICAN INVENTOR and "Time's Kid of the Year!"
  • Governor Jared Polis will Address the Community Regarding Innovation in Northern Colorado
  • Food Trucks
  • Live Music
  • HUGE BUBBLE TOWER
  • Historical Timeline of Innovation in Loveland
  • Innovation Demonstrations and Vendors
  • 'DRONE ZONE' Play Space
  • Car Show & Vintage Fire Trucks
  • Community Champions Awards Ceremony
  • Ribbon Cutting for Re-Grand Opening of the Campus
  • Forge Campus Tours
  • HP Round Table Room
  • The 1st 500 Guests Receive a Free Gift!
  • Sci on the Fly Mobile Science Lab
  • Pulse Video Gaming Station
  • 4-H Stem Energy Lab
  • Helicopter for Kids to Explore
We are very proud of the hard work we put into this major tribute to innovation in Loveland, CO.
It took hundreds of vendors, volunteers and event crew members to make magic happen --- and it did!

Our Favorite Photo Spots in Northern Colorado

11/11/2022

Finding the perfect spot for your next photo shoot!
Northern Colorado has no shortage of scenic backdrops that are perfect for photoshoots - both professional and impromptu selfies. As event planners who are often asked for recommendations, we have pulled together a list of some of the best locations in NoCo. Reference this list for your next family mini-session, graduation shoot, engagement photos, or a fun afternoon with you and your closest friends!

Favorite Spots for Family & Senior Photos

Rocky Mountain National Park - This location offers some of the most majestic mountain views around! It is very popular in the fall - especially with the variety of golds, oranges, and reds - perfect for family photos that are worthy of a Christmas Card! There are multiple locations inside the park to choose from, including, but not limited to, Bear Lake, Sprague Lake, and Moraine Park.
Picture
Horsetooth Reservoir - Located just west of Fort Collins proper, this picturesque setting has great options for foothills and water backdrops. Also a great spot for engagement and wedding photos!
Picture
Riverbend Ponds Natural Area - This location is a hidden natural area surrounded by city - making it a perfect spot if you want more than one location for your photoshoot or session. You can easily travel from this beautiful natural setting to downtown Fort Collins for a completely different look. We are partial to this location in the fall - it is often full of vibrant yellows and oranges - perfect for fall senior photo shoots!
Picture
Arapaho Bend Natural Area - Perhaps one of the most photographed areas for family photos!
This iconic bridge and beautiful wooded areas are the perfect setting for any shoot!

Picture
CSU Annual Flower Trial Gardens - Located in the heart of downtown Fort Collins, this spot is perfect for family photos, engagement sessions, group photos before school dances, or just some fun selfies with friends. Depending on when you go, there will be different background colors to suit your taste!
Picture
Stunning Engagement and Wedding Spots

All of the previously mentioned locations would work for engagement and wedding photos, too, but these next spots are undeniably perfect!

South Mesa Trailhead - Located near Boulder, CO, this location is a perfect spot to capture important engagement poses or a quick post-wedding photoshoot. Gather shots on the trail itself, or find a nearby stream.
Picture
Chataqua Park - Also located near Boulder, CO, this spot has some beautiful vistas and scenery great for any time of year. Hike through fields of yellow grass or snow to catch a perfect shot!
Picture
Old Town Fort Collins/Downtown Loveland - Downtown Fort Collins or 4th Street in downtown Loveland offer some chic and more urban shots to suit weddings and group photos. Perfect for family and senior photos as well!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Drinking Game!

11/23/2021

Picture
When the holidays draw near, do you feel the need to reach for a beer?
The relatives are in town, and you are putting in your time with the family...

Well, spike that eggnog, Sparky, grab your favorite moose mug, and play My Big Day's "Christmas Vacation Drinking Game!"

What you will need for this game: an beer, eggnog, wine, or your drink of choice, a Santa hat & a single shot of your choice (perhaps a lime Jello shot topped with cat food).

*** Disclosure: please don't drink to put up with family, then drive.
Picture
My Big Day Drinking Rules:

Take One Drink Every Time...
  • Ellen calls Clark "Sparky"
  • Someone is wearing an ugly holiday sweater
  • There is singing or bells shaking
  • The swimming pool is referenced
  • Clark is wearing a sports team article of clothing

Additional Rules:
  • The entire group takes a drink whenever an advent calendar door is opened.
  • You must yell “Shitter’s Full!” any time you leave to use the restroom, otherwise you must finish your beer when you return.
  • The first person to say “Get me somebody! And get me somebody while I'm waiting!” when Frank Shirley appears on screen for the first time chooses a person to finish their drink.
  • The first person to stand up & fully complete the “knock on the door, peek in…” correctly WITH hand gestures during that scene gives two drinks.
  • At any point in the movie, you can point to someone & yell "RUSS!" If they do not respond with "Right here, dad" they must take a drink (max once per person, this could get out of control).
  • Anytime someone misquotes a line in the movie, they have to wear the Santa hat until it gets passed to the next person.
  • When the movie is over, the last person wearing the Santa hat has to shotgun a beer & finish by saying “Ahh, It’s good, It’s good. It’s good.”

Safe Halloween Event - How Did It Come To Be?

10/16/2021

- by Tiffany Dinsmore

With another year ending, the fall and winter festivities are beginning! As always Halloween is kicking off our holiday season! Although there are a lot more events being held this year people are still being cautious and most events are being held outside. Christine Forster with My Big Day Events and Marketing along with Thompson Education Foundation created a way to celebrate Halloween in a safe and easy way with NoCo’s Greatest Drive Thru Trick-or-Treat Experience. It was a huge success for 2020 and they are hoping for another successful event at the end of the October!
Picture
I have asked Christine to answer a series of questions to help give some insight on the second year of this event!

How long have you been working with TEF?
MBD has been working with Thompson Education Foundation for a couple years now. Although Christine and Kim go way back.
"We met 17 years ago volunteering for the Downtown Loveland Association."

What was your creative process when creating the Drive Thru Trick-or-Treat Event last year?
"The idea came about quickly and naturally, but when developing the concept, it was crucial to us that we evaluate who all may benefit from partnering with an event such as this, where might the drive-thru traffic be most appreciated, etc. We reached out to other entities to inform them of our concept and to invite others to join in to give families a safe Halloween."
Picture
The event must have been a success to do it again this year, what are the fundraising goals for 2021?
"When we initially created this, we didn't have a fundraising goal. We wanted to cover expenses of course - but a safe trick-or-treating option for local families was our biggest goal. We were thrilled by the number of sponsors who supported the event last year and have already seen great response this year!"

Is there a particular moment or memory from 2020’s event that stands out to you?
"Being on the back end of management for the event, watching hundreds of tickets get snagged up in minutes was a real Ticketmaster moment.  To know that we had 3,000 people attend the event and thousands more on the waiting list is our top memory for 2020."
Picture
Where is the event located this year and how will it be different from the 2020 event?
"This year we are taking advantage of the generous access we have to the Thompson School District Administration building. This allows for plenty of space for booths, vendor parking, volunteer parking, regulated entrance/exit flow, and indoor facilities for our staff and volunteers.
The event itself will be the same, with the exception of limitations by county and state. Last year we were limited to the number of people we could have 'gather' at an outdoor event, so our booths could only host 2 workers, and we had to limit volunteers and number of cars in attendance by timed interval."

What is the biggest challenge that you are facing with putting this event together?
"As with any outdoor event, one challenge can be weather. There is always a chance for snow at the end of October. This event will happen rain, shine, or snow. It will only cancel should there be an absolute blizzard.
Also, as with any event right now, we are still dealing with a global pandemic. MBD has planned enough events during the pandemic to have plans and processes in place to offer guests, staff and volunteers a safe experience!"

Picture
The drive-thru trick-or-treat experience is just $5 per vehicle (no campers or busses).
All guests will sign up for a 30 min window of time to arrive. All tickets will need to be purchased online in advance.

Booths are available for businesses, non-profits and schools (and each booth comes with 1 free guaranteed entrance to the event).

Thank you Christine for inventing such a unique Halloween experience!

Christmas is too sparkly…….said no one ever!

Our team has scoured the corners of Northern Colorado to find all the best and brightest holiday light displays!
