April 8th 2021 was the first annual Trailblazing Thompson, A Salute to Excellence event! TEF, DLR Group and MBD Marketing and Events along with a long list of amazing sponsors came together to make this amazing event happen! But what is Trailblazing Thompson? “A virtual event highlighting Thompson Education Foundation's programs and recognizing excellence in Thompson School District. This annual community event is TEF's Educator of the Year celebration and the features the announcement of the 2021 Educator of the Year recipients. The annual Educators of the Year awards are supported by King Buick GMC. Educator of the Year sponsor, King Buick GMC, feels the best way to give back to the community is through education support: building strong programs that will produce a highly trained workforce that can increase innovation and energy for American manufacturing. To honor Thompson School District educators, King Buick GMC provides car leases for 60 days to educator of the year winner in each categories and a 24 month car lease to the overall TEF Educator of the Year winner.” This year TEF had 79 Thompson School District teachers, principals and staff members nominated for these awards. Only a handful of those can win awards and only one can be named 2021’s TEF Educator of the Year! After many hours of tough decision making the TEF board members finalized these amazing TSD teachers, principals and staff members as 2021 winners! 2021 Educator of the Year award recipients TEF Educator of the Year Barb Hartman, TSD Health Services Coordinator Elementary Educator Karen Shumate, Mary Blair Elementary School Secondary Educator Ericka Griess, Mountain View High School Principal Deon Davis, Coyote Ridge Elementary School Principal Ian Stout, Loveland Classical Schools TSD Staff Jordan Jennings, Berthoud High School As COVID has affected us all it has changed the way that we do events. This event, normally held in person with up to 400 people attending was unfortunately too large to accommodate at this time making it a live streaming virtual event! A lot goes into the behind the scenes when it comes to these types of events. Technical issues are always close by and it is hard for people to have the same confidence speaking in front of a camera with a mask on, rather than speaking to people who are physically there and that they can interact with.
Does your teacher go above and beyond her/his normal duties? What about your principle or another one of the schools’ staff? Educator of the Year is about recognizing that we can not do this alone. We need our teachers and the entire staff behind them to prepare our kids for greatness! Nominations begin November 30th 2020. My Big Day was honored to be recognized as one of the fastest growing businesses in Northern Colorado for a 2nd year in a row! This year, we also came in second place in flight V! BizWest is the annual host of the Mercury 100 Awards. The Mercury 100 list is ranked by percentage revenue growth over a two-year period. The 100 companies are divided into five “flights” of 20, with the highest revenue earners in flight one. Those 20 companies are then ranked by their percentage revenue growth over a two-year period. The Mercury is compiled by BizWest’s research department and vetted by Anton Collins Mitchell. The Christmas spirit was extended into early January with Blue’s holiday party, built around the storyline from the classic holiday tale - A Christmas Story! Guests were transported back to a simpler time with specialized photobooth backdrops, food, and decor reminiscent of Ralphie’s childhood home in the 1950’s. The Marriott Fort Collins hosted us again and tables were decorated with kitchen colanders in honor of Mother Parker’s holiday culinary feats, Red Ryder BB guns, and of course, the famous “Fragile” Leg Lamps. The only thing missing was a bar serving large glasses of Ovaltine! (Note - there were three open bars for the guests to imbibe from!) The evening was full of fellowship between all the various bank branches, company recognitions and awards, and of course dancing! Music and emceeing was provided by our favorite entertainer - DJ Kaaos! Activities also included a costume contest, and door prize drawings for all of the table centerpieces. Blue Federal Credit Union is one of our favorite clients to work with, and we were once again pleased to be part of the planning for their always fun company holiday party! This year they chose a Mad Men theme, which we had a blast planning and executing! This years' party was hosted at the Fort Collins Marriott. Our centerpieces were ornate art deco lamps, retro decanters, and period appropriate picture frames with banking ads from the 1960's. The customized playlist by MC and DJ, Robert Krueger, consisted of classic 1960's tunes and holiday music. Blue celebrated their 400+ guests with an award presentation. Their "Blunder Award" ceremony was a huge hit! In addition to the awards and dancing, we had a photobooth and caricature artists available to capture all of our guests!
