At MBD Marketing & Events, we know how to mix work and play to create a truly fun and engaging work environment. We pride ourselves on bringing energy and enthusiasm to our work every day. All of us find meaning and joy in the work we do for our clients. Here’s how each member of our team brings “Joy to the Job!” ![]() Christine Forster President, Purveyor of Passions I bring Joy to the Job by providing clients with MBD team members that match best with their needs. Every client, no matter the size, deserves someone who truly cares about their business and aligns well with their beliefs and passions. The personal touches are also important to me as a business owner. Postcards, happy notes, social time outside of business time and passing along business leads all are ways I bring joy to the job. ![]() Carrie Kaufman (Stadtmueller) Executive, Content Conductor I provide a cool and calm presence when things go off-course. In event planning, we are trained to imagine and prepare for all possible outcomes. Sometimes things don't go exactly as planned. I make it my mission to stay calm and on-task during these little moments of chaos, hopefully providing peace of mind to our clients. I enjoy working behind the scenes so our clients and their causes can shine! ![]() Tiffany Dinsmore Manager, Magic Maker One of my personal strengths is the ability to remain calm and think things through when a problem arises, rather than panic. I have the ability to remain level-headed and solve problems behind the scenes, relieving stress and worry for our clients and bringing them joy. ![]() Katie Patterson Director, Community Wizard I absolutely love to problem solve. The moment something inevitably goes wrong and we are able to quickly solve the issue is so rewarding. Sometimes the client comes to us with a problem and is beyond grateful we were there to solve it (day of or in the days before an event). But many times the client isn’t even aware of the issue and sees everything running smoothly. In both cases, problem-solving truly brings me joy! ![]() Kathy Teele Manager, Client Cheerleader I love to be in person with events, as it gives you a chance to meet and talk with the guests. You get to hear their stories, share in their joy, see their excitement and know that you were a hug, an ear for listening or you were someone for them to jump for joy with. It's what everyone needs! ![]() Sarah Biekert Manager, Punctuation Prodigy I am a perfectionist. When I’m working, every detail matters, because my goal is to make our client’s vision come to life. Whether it’s someone’s wedding or a small business client, my favorite thing is when a client walks into their event space or sees marketing materials we’ve prepared and says, “Wow,” with a smile on their face. ![]() Amanda Sammartino Manager, Marketing Maven I'm not afraid to ask the tough questions to help identify barriers to success. I also use my fundraising background to help create materials that will anticipate donor questions. ![]() Amy Dixon Manager, Marketing Maven I try to bring joy to my clients by talking them up in social media posts. It’s always hard to brag about yourself, but if someone else is seeing the talent in you and is good at expressing your strengths in words, it’s a huge compliment! As purveyors of fun with MBD Marketing & Events, we support businesses and individuals in the growth of their ideas, events and marketing strategies. Our creative aptitude and team of women with diverse backgrounds and expertise allows for unique ideas. Our passion for perfection makes every client a priority! ![]() Carrie Rose Brennan Manager, Content Queen My personal joy comes from the visual arts and photography. One way I express joy and share it with others is through my photography. My photography seeks to see things from a new perspective: capturing patterns and ratios, the play of light, and of course the product for our customers. I have worked on thousands of websites and use my skill of recognizing patterns to make great user-friendly websites for customers. When I design a website, I try to make it as user-friendly as possible as well as having the overall design capture the aesthetic and ethos of the company. ![]() Marissa Rogers Exceptional Event Expert One of my strengths is learning the little things that are most important to my clients, and my attention to detail. Sometimes the smallest details can make the biggest impact by featuring those details in an event. I look out for those little, surprise "wow" moments and how I can incorporate them into an event to make it really personalized and special. Our team listens first. Table setting guidelines and tips may vary based on the occasion and cultural context. However, some general guidelines and tips can help you create a beautiful and functional table setting. Whether you are hosting a formal dinner party, a casual brunch, or a romantic dinner for two, a well-set table can enhance the dining experience and make your guests feel welcome. Below are some helpful tips from My Big Day.
Sample Table Settings: Informal -Place a large dinner plate in the middle of a place mat. -If soup is being served, a soup bowl is placed on top of the dinner plate. -The fork is placed to the left of the plate. -The knife and spoon are on the right. The knife is positioned directly next to the plate with the blade facing in. The spoon is right of the knife. -Soup spoons can be found to the right of the beverage spoon. -If salad is being served, include a smaller salad fork to the left of the dinner fork. -And what’s dinner without bread? The bread plate is placed above the forks with a butter knife on top. -Place the water glass directly above the knife. -As for the napkin, placement is at the discretion of the host. Under the forks or between the dinner plate and bowl are two popular choices. Formal A formal place setting is very similar to the informal, just with a few more add-ons. -Begin with the informal setting. -Include a wine glass next to the water glass above the knife. -A dessert spoon can be added to the right of the beverage spoon, a fork can be placed to the right of the dinner fork, both placed above the plate, or simply brought out with the course. -To dress your table up a bit, add a charger beneath the dinner plate for extra flare. As with any event, make it your own! These are simply guidelines and are not absolute rules. Feel free to create your own table setting that will make your table unforgettable. Table setting is an art that requires attention to detail and creativity. By following these guidelines and tips, you can create a beautiful and functional table setting that enhances the dining experience and makes your guests feel welcome. Remember, the table setting should reflect your personality, theme and style, so have fun and experiment with different ideas!

Our passion for perfection makes every client a priority! You’ve honed your concept, raised the money, found your perfect space, conducted interviews – and now it’s time to open your doors, with the MBD Marketing and Events team’s tips on how to host a ribbon cutting for your new business. What is a ribbon cutting? A ribbon cutting is a ceremonial opening of your business, usually a formal event where a company representative or local public figure commemorates your new venture. The name “ribbon cutting” comes from the tradition of cutting a large ribbon with supersized scissors to “open” the doorway to the new storefront. Fun fact: The origin of giant scissors can be traced back to the Bronze Age, over 3,000 years ago. Modern ribbon cuttings need not involve the literal ribbon, though it is still a popular practice. The main purpose of a ribbon cutting is to gain publicity for and raise awareness of a new or renovated business. Ribbon cuttings and grand openings are not one and the same. Grand openings are typically the first time a storefront is open for regular business, while a ribbon cutting is a special event focused on ceremony and dissemination of information. Follow these steps to get the most out of your ribbon cutting: Plan First things first, you’ll need to set a date and time for your ribbon cutting. Your local Chamber of Commerce or an event planner can tell you the ideal day and time to host your event. You’ll also want to check the schedule of any officials or public figures you’d like to attend, before settling on a date. Be sure to allow enough time to plan the logistics of your event and to get the word out. Next, you’ll want to start on promotion (see “Promote” below). While you’re spreading the word about your event, you’ll need to prepare and send invitations to VIPs. Planning the ceremony itself involves considerations about who will host and answer questions, whether you will have any speakers, food, entertainment, seating, photography, and swag such as branded gift bags. Hiring a local event planner like MBD Marketing & Events can streamline this process, and we’ll use our huge network in northern Colorado to get you the best deals from your vendors. Promote You’ll want to get the word out about your upcoming ribbon cutting as much as possible. There are free and paid methods for creating word of mouth about your event in your community. Consider promoting your event through:
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of hours promoting your new business while you’re, well, getting ready to open that new business, you’re not alone. Our marketing and events team can handle all of the above for you! Execute Many people, even business owners, don’t realize what goes into putting on an event behind the scenes – but we are experts. Sticking to your event timeline can be a challenge when juggling multiple vendors and inevitable last-minute mishaps. Having an event planning team working in the background ensures your day will run smoothly, but if you don’t, plan to at least have someone to coordinate vendors and logistics the day of your event. Consider things like:
Publicize
Ideally, your early promotion efforts enticed local publications to attend your ribbon cutting and/or write about your new business. But you can publicize your event, too. Share photos and information about your event on your business’s website and social media pages. If your website includes a blog, dedicate a post to your successful ribbon cutting. Your event guests are a great source of free publicity. Encourage them to share your event by creating a specific hashtag for posting about your event – this allows you to easily search for posts made by guests. A selfie wall, or eye-catching backdrop for guests to take photos in front of, is a source of entertainment and visual publicity for your ribbon cutting. For help planning your ribbon cutting and day-of coordination, book the northern Colorado experts at My Big Day Marketing & Events. We take on the behind-the-scenes stress, so you can enjoy your event. For more business marketing and event tips and ideas, follow My Big Day on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. MBD Marketing & Events has been in the industry for over 16 years and has seen A LOT in our time. Analyzing what we have booked this year, what our clients are talking about, what we are learning in the courses we take, and reading what our industry partners have to say.... here is what you can expect from meetings and events in 2023. 2023 Event Forecast and Trends Colorado’s economy is expected to continue growing in 2023 — slowly. This is good news. Colorado’s economy is expected to grow slightly in 2023 — by a little over 1 percent, and inflation is predicted to drop to 4.6 percent according to the December economic forecast from Legislative Council Staff, the state’s nonpartisan fiscal analysts. While we may see some hesitation to spend big in some areas of business... economic growth helps with consumer confidence. Meeting professionals expect in-person events and budgets to increase in 2023, according to American Express Meetings & Events. The 12th annual Global Meetings & Events Forecast found that more than three quarters (77 per cent) of respondents are optimistic about the health of the industry heading into 2023 (rating eight or above out of 10) – a six-point increase compared to last year’s survey. And when it comes to budgets, just under two thirds (65 per cent) said that overall M&E spend is increasing for 2023. MBD engages closely with Cvent and always anticipates their annual report. Below are Cvent’s 14 Meeting & Event Trends for 2023 Trend 1 – Planners are not only planning more meetings, they anticipate a surge in future bookings. Trend 2 – There’s a renewed focus on return on time/experience/investment for attendees, especially as costs increase. Trend 3 – Social activism will play a big role in how meetings are planned. Trend 4 – Hotels need to adapt to “a triple threat” (in-person, hybrid and virtual). Trend 5 – Event planners will refocus on and prioritize health and wellness activities. Trend 6 – Planners are choosing leisure destinations more frequently, perhaps even over metro centers. Trend 7 – Virtual reality is no longer just for video games. It may soon make event planning easier and more efficient. Trend 8 – Google’s shift away from third-party cookies will impact online advertising strategies. Trend 9 – Smaller meetings may increasingly become a preferred option, especially for luxury events. Trend 10 – Special events will increasingly become multiday celebrations. Trend 11 – In-person meetings are a vital part of maintaining and rebuilding workplace culture. Trend 12 – Reaching event planners with influencer marketing and placing additional emphasis on video content will become more common. Trend 13 – An increased focus on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the meetings and events industry. Trend 14 – New planners increasingly seek out special venues, outdoor events and unique settings. Colorado is especially well-suited for trends 5, 6, 10, and 14 when working with planners seeking health and wellness activities, leisure destinations, multiday offerings, and unique/outdoor settings. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) also is at the forefront. Meetings + Events Magazine predicts significant meeting & event recovery in 2023. As reporting just weeks ago, in an update to its U.S. Meetings Recovery Forecast (MRF) released late last year, Knowland predicts that 2023 will be a year of growth and not just another year of recovery. The company, known for providing data insights on meetings and events for the hospitality industry, also offered an updated Top 25 U.S. Meetings Recovery Forecast (MRF25). Knowland added the MRF25 in February 2022 examine industry recovery patterns for the top 25 U.S. markets. These cities include Anaheim, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Oahu Island, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C. Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has released their Fall 2022 Meetings Outlook report that indicates that many meeting professionals are reporting their business is back to pre-pandemic levels. However, rising costs and insufficient resources (both staff and budgets) are expected to be trends in 2023. Price hikes have hit virtually every area of the industry, with 64% of planners and suppliers calling it a seller’s market. As a result, 78% are seeking new revenue opportunities for their meetings and events. While 65% expect their budgets to increase in 2023, the growth likely won’t keep pace with rising costs. Staffing is still an issue, with 62% of survey respondents indicating they are still having trouble filling staff vacancies. A year ago, only 3% or respondents said their business levels had returned to pre-pandemic levels. Now, 32% indicate full recovery with 31% implying it will happen sometime in 2023 and the remaining 37% in 2024 or later. Great news! The MBD Marketing & Events team has seen first-hand an increase in meetings, events and retreats. What we have noticed most is that clients are looking for NEW and CREATIVE ways to meet, connect and engage. We pride ourselves on our resourcefulness, connections and creativity. We anticipate growth in 2023 and even more so in 2024. Making Business Personal
