40.3395° N, 105.5734° W Something very special happened on this spot! If you look this location up in your smartphone, you will likely find a picture of love - the love between Jen & Antonio! In reality, these are the coordinates for the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, and it was the beautiful site for the delightful reception celebrating the marriage of our clients, Jen and Antonio Garcia. Jen is a close My Big Day friend, and we were ecstatic to be a part of her Big Day! The day’s celebrations started in a cabin, aptly named “Blessings” on the YMCA site. Family members and the wedding party, met there to prepare for the nuptials at a local Catholic church, Our Lady of the Mountains, as well as to gather to surround both Jen and Antonio with love. There were pictures, primping, hugs, and mimosas. After the beautiful ceremony, guests were invited to gather in the large ballroom on the YMCA site. There they were served delicious drinks at an open bar, as well as homemade appetizers and snacks while they waited for the wedding party to return from a quick after ceremony photo shoot. The evening was full of good food, drink, and entertainment provided by Suit & Tie DJ services. The highlight of the evening had to be during the speeches when Maid of Honor and Sister of the Bride turned her speech into a rap, complete with background singers. The crowd was enthralled as she “rocked the mic like a vandal”! Guests danced the night away, and made several trips to the photobooth provided by Blue Orchid Photography. The decor that the bride and groom chose for their reception site was full of personal and familial touches. There was a memory table filled with photos of family members and important friends who had passed. Their guestbook was a beautifully honed piece of wood with their wedding date and coordinates for guests to sign. They had a date jar and more photos of special dates in their relationship on display as well. It was very evident that the couple’s family and friends were a very important part of their relationship and life together. We absolutely loved being able to be a part of this couple’s big day - the fact that Jen is a close My Big Day friend made it even more special and fun! It’s likely you as a couple fit characteristics of more than one theme. Maybe you’re a little sultry but also have a sophisticated elegance about you? Your personalities might take you in one direction but your budget may take you in another. So where do you start? Which direction do you go in? Below are four tips to help you better choose the wedding theme that best suits who you are as a couple. Personality First thing’s first: what type of couple are you? Maybe you consider yourself to be outdoorsy and find yourselves camping and hiking on the weekends. If so, a rustic wedding might encompass your personalities! Do you love bright, bold colors and eccentric design? Then maybe a whimsical setting is just for you! Whichever it may be, go with a theme that will let your personalities shine and it will be sure to be a magical momentous event! Personal Style Your personal style can have a lot of say in the theme you choose as well. If you tend to go more of a classy route, than a traditional elegant tuxedo and ballroom gown would be the right choice for you. Or maybe it’s the look of suspenders with a bow tie paired with a lace fitted dress for that fits your fancy? Regardless of the look you choose, it is important to make sure you feel and look your best on your special day. If you’re not sure where to look first, ladies, we suggest you visit Azazie for inspiration. They have an abundance of styles and colors that will be sure to fit any theme you so desire! As for the gents, we recommend The Black Tux for your style inspiration. Their many styles of wedding suits and tuxedos will be sure to impress. They also have this helpful style guide that gives pointers for guys who, let’s face it, can use the help.

Sometimes, My Big Day wedding planners are brought in at the last minute, for “day of” only help. Other times, we are fortunate enough to work with a couple, crafting and creating THE perfect day from start to finish. While we are always happy to fill either role, crafting a couple’s dream wedding vision from start to finish is always a labor of love and considered a privilege. Craig & Catherine Harrison had a vision for their Big Day, and we had the privilege of making that dream come true! Craig and Catherine dreamed of celebrating with friends and family on their family owned ranch located just outside of Timnath, Colorado. Their expansive property was the perfect place to not only be wed to to each other, but to also combine their love of their new longhorn cattle herd operation and new show barn, with Catherine’s fondness of all things glamorous and shiny! Open pastures, bubbling brooks, and painted mountains provided the perfect backdrop for this dream wedding, and the newly constructed show barn offered the perfect spot for a festive cocktail hour and dancing. As wedding planners, we always have an eye for detail - small details and touches pack a punch and can pull everything together. Catherine was all about the details - from the feminine and soft floral arrangements hand picked and held in family heirloom vases, to the old books and picture frames, repurposed as barn decor. She pulled this vision of “high sophistication with a rustic flare” together with antique furniture, lace and tulle, wine barrels, and candlelight provided by sparkly votive jars. The floral arrangements that were placed throughout the ceremony site, barn, and dining tent were simply stunning. Our job of pulling all of the details together began early on September 16. Our team oversaw the set up the ceremony site and stage - complete with a hand made lectern provided by our groom, Craig. We worked closely with florist, Lace and Lillies as well as baker, Sarah B's Bakery, to place floral displays throughout the venue, as well as a delicious dessert bar, located in the barn. Caterers Juli y Juan, and their team worked to create flawless displays of tasty dishes, hand picked by the bride and groom for their guests. First look and pre-ceremony photos took place throughout the property, and were lovingly captured by Ash Meier Weddings and Arcadian Pictures. Hosted by the fine folks of Ellis Ranch outside of Loveland, Nicole and Tyler crafted the perfect celebration of love that merged her love of all things shiny and sparkly and his love of BBQ and the Broncos! There were special touches throughout the event, from shining votives on the dinner tables, to pops of orange and blue in the wedding bouquets and floral arrangements. Following a beautiful gazebo ceremony, guests were treated to an open bar, staffed by the talented Ellis Ranch crew, and appetizers provided by Nicole’s Father and Step-Mother. After the wedding party concluded their after-ceremony photos, the entire party moved into the dining area where Hog Wild BBQ was served, complete with brisket, shredded pork, chicken, and peach cobbler! We are seeing some exciting wedding trends for 2015! My Big Day loves working with brides who have a vision and are willing to try new things. With every wedding season trends change and we can see patterns in popularity. Here is what we are seeing for 2015: Destination Weddings to the Colorado Mountains: Living and having a business based in Colorado, we see 'mountain themed' weddings all the time. But in 2015 we are seeing more destination weddings to the Colorado mountains than ever! We have brides coming from out of state and getting married in Silverthorne, Breckenridge, Estes park, Vail, Beaver Creek, Granby, and Steamboat Springs. Why are mountain weddings so popular? We think it's because a wedding outdoors makes for great photos, Colorado has reliable weather, and Colorado is more affordable than having your friends and family fly to Bora Bora for your destination! Classic Making a Comeback: Everything old is new again! Simple elegance, white, gold accents, distinguished details... We are seeing the word "Classic" everywhere! Think lace... pastel pink... fine china ... crystal.... what weddings were, and are again! CLICK HERE for more wedding inspiration on Pinterest! Laser-Cut Wedding Invitations: In 2015 laser cut and laser scribed invitations have definitely become popular. We are seeing "Classic" make a comeback, and laser cut invitations are a statement piece that can convey a classic theme to your guests. With the array of designs and intricacies available, these invitations set the tone of a wedding! They are great for Save the Dates too! We received this laser scribed invitation from bride, Alicia: "Frozen" Winter Weddings: Blame it on Disney... weddings are not just for the summer (they never really have been). But more than ever, winter weddings are gaining in popularity. And why not!?! Snow makes the perfect background for soft, clean, sparkly elegance! CLICK HERE for additional winter wedding inspiration on Pinterest. Wedding Cinematography: Forget the words "wedding video." Wedding movies are the new trend! My Big Day has worked with some incredible videographers who turn weddings into short films. We LOVE this trend! Below is a wedding film from one of our recent weddings: Craft Beer Weddings: Being from Colorado, and having a business in Northern Colorado, "The Napa of Beer"... we find that craft beer has made it's way into the wedding scene - BIG TIME! Signature cocktails will always be a fun offering for guests. But local, craft beer and spirits make your Big Day a celebration of you, and where you are from! Have Fun. Be Young. Let us know how we can help!

Informal -Place a large dinner plate in the middle of a place mat. -If soup is being served, a soup bowl is placed on top of the dinner plate. -The fork is placed to the left of the plate. -The knife and spoon are on the right. The knife is positioned directly next to the plate with the blade facing in. The spoon is right of the knife. -Soup spoons can be found to the right of the beverage spoon. -If salad is being served, include a smaller salad fork to the left of the dinner fork. -And what’s dinner without bread? The bread plate is placed above the forks with a butter knife on top. -Place the water glass directly above the knife. -As for the napkin, placement is at the discretion of the host. Under the forks or between the dinner plate and bowl are two popular choices. Formal A formal place setting is very similar to the informal, just with a few more add-ons. -Begin with the informal setting. -Include a wine glass next to the water glass above the knife. -A dessert spoon can be added to the right of the beverage spoon, a fork can be placed to the right of the dinner fork, both placed above the plate, or simply brought out with the course. -To dress your table up a bit, add a charger beneath the dinner plate for extra flare. As with any event, make it your own! The above instructions are simply guidelines and are not absolute rules. Feel free to create your own table setting that will make your table unforgettable.
