NoCo’s July COVID-Safe Outdoor Events Calendar

7/2/2020

The Loveland Drive-In only lasts two more weekends, but don’t fret, NoCo! There are plenty of other safe, outdoor events happening in July – for families, friends, and couples. Here are some of the events we at My Big Day are most excited about!

Every Wednesday and Thursday – CopperMuse Happy Hour @ The Exchange Fort Collins: Enjoy happy hour at CopperMuse Distillery every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. The Exchange is an open air plaza surrounded by food, cocktails, and beer served out of shipping container cars and is open every day from 7:30 a.m.-12 a.m.

July 3 – Glacier Ice Cream Fort Collins Grand Opening: Glacier Ice Cream, a beloved brand with roots in Boulder, CO, is opening a new franchise location on North College Avenue in Fort Collins. Since Glacier’s inception in 2001, over 1,000 fun and unique flavors of handmade ice cream and gelato have been enjoyed by Colorado friends and families. Outdoor seating available, or grab your ice cream to-go. More information HERE.

July 4 – Larimer County Drive-In Fireworks Show @ The Ranch: In light of state and county public health orders, the City of Loveland is moving its Fourth of July fireworks display, a time-honored North Lake Park tradition, to The Ranch Events Complex for 2020. The fireworks show is the result of a partnership between the City of Loveland, City of Fort Collins, Larimer County Government, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, and The Ranch Events Complex. Click HERE for more info.
July 11 – 7 O’clock Howl with Waido Experience @ The Lyric Fort Collins: Come see the live music you have been craving before an outdoor movie. Music starts at 7 p.m., movie at 8 p.m. Please wear a mask! If you don’t have one, The Lyric will unfortunately not be able to serve you – they must be kept on at all times unless consuming food or drinks. The Lyric will be showcasing multiple bands and showing outdoor movies all summer. Click HERE for more info.
July 13 – City of Loveland Outdoor Yoga @ Marianna Butte Golf Course: Mondays 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. July 13 – August 3. Yoga is a great way to build strength, balance, focus, and flexibility - as well as improve your golf game. While this class is geared toward golfers, anyone who signs up will benefit. Spots are limited. Click HERE to register.
July 24 – 2020 Food & Flick Fridays: Drive-In Edition: Shazam! @ Firestone Regional Sports Complex: Not quite NoCo, but there is great family fun to be had at Firestone’s annual Food & Flick Fridays. Food trucks will be onsite, offering dinner and dessert options, with a movie on the big screen. All you’ll need to do is tune-in on your radio! The parking lot will open at 6:30 p.m., and the movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. Parking will be limited; visitors are encouraged to come early! Click HERE for details.

COVID-19 RISK ASSESSMENT FOR FAMILY ACTIVITIES

6/24/2020

With COVID-19 numbers increasing in parts of the country, many of us with kids (My Big Day and “Loveland Drive-In” employees included) are wondering what we can do to keep our families entertained outside of the house and how safe those activities really are. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has updated information about the risk level of various activities. We are pleased that drive-in shows continue to be listed as one of the safest activities for families this summer.

See our COVID-19 risk assessment for family activities list below!
Picture
High-Risk Activities
(from “Covid 19 Risk Calculator,”  ABC News, updated June 19, 2020)

  • Yoga/workout classes/gym
Why:“Lots of sweaty strangers in an enclosed environment, what could go wrong? You’ll also be tempted to wipe sweat off your face, potentially touching your eyes and mouth area, making the risk even higher.”

  • Vacation
Why: Even if you “wear a mask and gloves in the airport and on the airplane, you take the first flight of the morning to avoid crowds and take advantage of overnight cleaning on the airplane, the airport isn’t crowded, and passengers on the plane are seated with empty seats between them,” the risk is high according to the article’s doctors. “You could do everything right, but at the end of the day you’re at the mercy of your fellow passengers’ health and hygiene.” There is also a risk that, if cases suddenly increase in your area of travel, you will not be able to return home for weeks or months.

  • Visiting grandparents
Why: It doesn’t matter if case numbers are low in your area, if you avoid staying in hotels, or if you have your entire family tested before the visit, “Grandparents are always going to be a higher risk population. And remember, you can test negative one day and contract the virus the next.”

  • Graduation/Independence Day/birthday party with 20 friends and family members
Why: The highest-risk activity on this list, it doesn’t matter if your invitees have been mostly staying home or come wearing masks – no one can wear a mask while eating or drinking, and adding alcohol into the mix makes people less likely to be vigilant. And, unless you have 40 bowls on hand and the time to individually dish out chips and salsa to each of your guests, there will be shared food handling involved.
Picture
Medium-Risk Activities

  • Dinner party with 3 or fewer friends
Why: Even if everyone washes their hands and has been following social distancing advice, your attendees won’t be able to wear masks while eating. You can make this activity slightly safer by eating outside, 6 feet apart, and using disposable (biodegradable, please!) dishes and cutlery.

  • Kids’ Summer Camp
Why: Campers should be kept in groups of 10 or less with no intermixing and as much outdoor time as possible. However, during hot summer months it is usually impossible to keep children outside at all times.

Picture
Low-Risk Activities

  • Camping
Why: If you maintain social distancing, eat only food you brought from home, wear masks whenever you are around other people and use hand sanitizer regularly, camping is a low risk activity.

  • Drive-in Movies/Concerts
Why: As long as cars are parked 6 feet apart, employees wear masks when interacting with customers, and you maintain your distance from others when outside of your car, drive-in shows are one of the safest out-of-the-house activities this summer. At the Loveland Drive-In, we go the extra mile with even more precautions:
  • By staggering our cars in a checkerboard pattern, we keep vehicles 10 feet apart rather than the required 6
  • Our employees monitor bathroom lines to be sure people are maintaining their distance from each other and that there are no more than 3 people in line at a time
  • We also regularly disinfect our restrooms with an aerosol spray for airborne germs and a bleach spray for solid surfaces like faucets and toilet handles

The Loveland Drive-In abides by the CDC’s advice on their latest “Deciding to Go Out”  information page (updated June 15, 2020):

  • Choose places where there is limited sharing of items and where any items that are shared are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses.  You can also choose to visit places that share, post, or announce that they have increased cleaning and disinfection to protect others from COVID-19.

  • Can you keep 6 feet of space between you and others? Will you be outdoors or indoors? Indoor spaces are more risky than outdoor spaces where it might be harder to keep people apart and there’s less ventilation. Choose outdoor activities and places where it’s easy to stay 6 feet apart, like parks and open-air facilities.

  • Use visual reminders—like signs, chair arrangements, markings on the floor, or arrows—to help remind you to keep your distance from others. (At the Loveland Drive-In, we have “X”s spray-painted on parking spaces in a checkerboard pattern to remind attendees not to park too close to others.)

  • Will I need to take public transportation to get to the activity? Public transit can put you in close contact with others. By nature, at a drive-in, you BYOV (bring your own vehicle)!

  • Before you go somewhere, call and ask what extra prevention strategies they are using, like requiring staff to wear cloth face coverings. Visit our FAQ  and Code of Conduct pages for the Loveland Drive-In to see some of the precautions we are taking to make sure your family stays safe!

There’s still time to join us for some low-risk family fun this summer!   Tickets available HERE!

Becca and Katie will make great additions to the My Big Day team!

Picture
Rebecca Barnes, Event Intern
Education: Bachelors in Hospitality Management

"Becca will be graduating from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hospitality Management and a Minor in Business Administration. As the Event Coordinating Officer for the CSU Hospitality Student Organization, she has had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people within the industry who have helped her solidify her love for event planning and helping people make their dream events become reality. She enjoys every aspect of event planning and loves to see all of the details come together for an unforgettable event clients will cherish for a lifetime. Her creativity emanates throughout her various hobbies, such as music, painting and photography, which allow her the ability to look at every event and look beyond the sky as the limit. She believes that each event should be as unique, imaginative, and memorable as those they are being created for. Becca is extremely excited to be working with the team at My Big Day and expanding her event planning skills!"
Katie Patterson, Event Intern
Education: Student at Colorado State University

I will be a senior at Colorado State University this fall and I am majoring in Communications studies with minors in both Business Administration and French.  My interest was first sparked in event planning in high school while working at a local pool in my hometown.  We would plan all types of summer events to put on for the community and I loved helping brainstorm for the events and then follow through to create the events.  I love the challenge of figuring out every dynamic to make an event as best it can be and improving on events that already exist.  I have also had the wonderful pleasure of spending the past year of college taking full reign of putting on multiple philanthropy event fundraisers for my sorority, Pi Beta Phi.  This experience only solidified and intensified my desire to plan and organize all types of events. For these events I was in charge of coordinating every aspect of the events from delegating tasks, receiving donations, marketing to the community, and so much more.  Being able to see these events come to life and watch people enjoy themselves at an event is a wonderful and fulfilling experience.  I love planning every aspect of events from the big picture to the smallest of details! I'm so excited to get more experience in the field while working with My Big Day Events and cannot wait to see how much I will be able to learn and grow in my skills with event planning.
