So you think you’ve found the PB to your J….. The bee to your honey…. The love of your life…. and now you’re ready to take the next step? Before you do, you should really spend some time in personal reflection, and in conversation with your significant other, because in a life changing event such as getting engaged, even some small things can become significant. The team at My Big Day has pulled together a list of questions you should really consider asking your partner before you ask for their hand in marriage. All of these questions are good to consider when you are thinking about taking the next step in your relationship. Open and honest discussions can help build a strong foundation that will weather anything life throws at the two of you. "Dream Big, Live Big. For Life's Events!"

With all of the cancellations and changes, we wanted to highlight a couple who is a shining example of how to make lemonade out of the lemons they were handed. Zach and Samantha not only had their wedding cancel... their venue wouldn't offer a refund, they realistically cannot reschedule until next year, their family couldn't fly to them in Colorado to witness them say their vows to each other... but they had the right perspective. Love is what matters most.
No, their day is not what they had initially pictured, but it was "perfect!" They got married. They are in love. They have a great story to tell. And they can host a big celebration at a later date. Today we raise our virtual glasses to Zach & Samantha!

Today the team debriefed about all the wedding details, as we constantly scrutinize our work, and evaluate the other vendors our clients hire and consider whether or not we would recommend them to others. This wedding was another PERFECT example of why you hire planners. Not only do we manage the details, we jump in and help your other vendors with their work should they fall short, to ensure you are not left stressing over things you shouldn't have to worry about. Everything below actually happened at ONE WEDDING. What happened: When reviewing contracts of vendors our couple hired, we noticed they hired a company that another client of ours had a very negative experience with. We gave them honest feedback and suggested they NOT to use a particular employee that we didn't feel would serve them well. What COULD HAVE happened: This couple could have had the same unfortunate experience another client had if they hadn't hired us and allowed us to review their contracts. What happened: Our clients were from out of state and purchasing all of their decorations, shipping them to their house, then having to ship them to Colorado didn't make sense. We offered to rent them what we had that would fit with their theme for a very small fee. We also allowed them to ship their other decorations to us and we transported them to the wedding. What COULD HAVE happened: Unnecessary expenses, stress, and more work for the bride and groom. What happened: The catering staff was short staffed and wasn't able to clear the tables in a timely fashion. My Big Day jumped in and started clearing plates, refilling waters, etc. What COULD HAVE happened: The Mother of the Bride and Aunt Julie could have been clearing plates, rather than visiting with guests. What happened: Since the catering team was short staffed, they also didn't have enough hands to cut cake and serve it to guests. Guess who served all of the guests? Yours truly. What COULD HAVE happened: The cake would have made it out to tables by the end of the night when half of the guests had already left. What happened: The DJ clearly didn't have the correct notes for this bride and groom. He made one mistake after another. My Big Day stepped in with our notes and babysat him to make sure he got his playlist in order. What COULD HAVE happened: Their guests could have been doing the Macarena and Chicken Dance, even though they explicitly put those on the DO NOT PLAY list. What happened: The DJ was not well spoken on the microphone and botched a few important moments. My Big Day Event Planners having a wealth of Public Speaking experience, so we politely took over announcements and let him focus on the playlist. What COULD HAVE happened: Angry family members insulted that they were called by the wrong name, guests missing their shuttle ride back to their hotel, missed speeches... you name it. When you hire events planners, you are hiring a team of experts who have your best interest at heart, years of experience with every kind of emergency you can imagine, and a team of people who have worked with hundreds of different vendors. We are flexible, reliable, and happy to recommend other great vendors in the industry. Contact My Big Day

My Big Day was asked to help coordinate an intimate wedding for Pat and Tracy who wanted to make sure that their closest friends and family had a taste of Tracy's French family background. We came up with a 'French Revelry' style day for the couple! While the weather didn't fully cooperate, this couple was cool and calm, and kept a focus on what was truly important! The colors chosen for the wedding were a white base, with tons of POP! Burgundy, reds, pinks and greens warmed each room. Sprawling vines added an earthy feel. Lace and Lilies in Fort Collins did an amazing job transforming the home! To make a French Revelry meal complete, you need a very special menu and multiple courses! Taste Local in Loveland, CO did an amazing job with the menu selection, presentation, and authentic interpretation! And what multiple course meal would be complete without a wine pairing? Our sommelier friend, Paul, hand selected multiple wines to pair with each course. He educated guests on the background of each wine and why it pairs so well! While we didn't get to celebrate out on the deck - looking out on Boyd Lake, Flexx Productions did provide rentals perfect for some shade on a sunny deck, all of the tables, chairs, linens, gold flatware and more! Of course, we wouldn't get to post such lovely photos without the permission and talent of the lovely Kyla with KJean Photography! She is always a pleasure to work with and such a professional! Congratulations to the latest happy My Big Day wedding couple: Patrick & Tracy!

However, it can be even more complicated for the eco-conscious couple who want to host an earth friendly wedding. Suddenly, the happy bride and groom are faced with a variety of choices and, more often than not, will discover it isn’t alway easy being green. Suddenly, we are forced with the dilemma of choosing convenience over more sustainable items due to cost or time. Thankfully, all is not lost. Couples can still enjoy the wedding of their dreams with a little creative thinking. Yes, it’s possible to organize an eco-friendly wedding that gives you all the “feels” without breaking the bank or your principles. Afterall, we want our relationship to be the item that lasts for years down the road, not the trash leftover from the wedding. 12 tips on how to organize an eco-friendly wedding: Start planning early. Depending on where you live, it isn’t always possible to walk into a store and purchase green products. Don’t wait to the last minute if you want to organize an eco-friendly wedding and buy items in bulk to cut down on costs and unneeded packaging. You need to start now and allow plenty of time to locate or order items you want. Locate the perfect venue. Not all venues are created equal and this is especially true when it comes to being eco-friendly. Before booking or putting down deposits, look for a location that can host the ceremony and reception in one place to reduce driving. Also, consider the natural lighting and how much input you will be able to have over the food and products used. Purchase recycled paper invitations. When choosing invites, look for eco-friendly versions made from recycled materials. You can buy a variety of high-quality products that feature handmade paper, paper with seeds inside that can be planted, and so much more! Go digital. Ditch paper invites altogether and use digital options for inviting people to the wedding, reception, and even for RSVP’s. Buy local. Reduce your carbon footprint by hiring local vendors to buy local products and services. Also, purchase in-season produce and foods to add regional flare. For flowers, pick organic or upcycle your own. There are a variety of eco-friendly options available. If you can’t find organically grown or sustainable flowers that are in-season, make your own from vintage fabrics or old books. You can also throw the bouquet and choose potted plants! Embrace reusable table coverings. While it’s tempting to get plastic tablecloths that can be rolled up and thrown into the trash, keep things classy and eco-friendly with cloth or reusable table coverings. Many venues may already provide this option, but you can always buy your own or borrow from friends and family. Find something borrowed. Rent or borrow reusable centerpieces, decorations, and other big ticket items. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel for each wedding and it makes financial sense while being better for the environment. Go vintage and buy used. Instead of buying all new items that come with packaging, hit garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, and online resellers first. You can also repurpose items your family already owns for the wedding for one-of-a-kind items. Look for ways incorporate old doors, Mason jars, containers, bicycles, feeders, wedding dresses, lace, fabrics, and more on your big day! This will keep items out of the landfill and give your wedding personality for pennies on the dollar. Ditch the disposable silverware and table settings. Go old school and pump up the glam by using real plates, glasses, and silverware complete with cloth napkins. By saying no to the plastics, styrofoam, or paper products you will be eliminating these one time use items from heading to the landfill. If you don’t want to hassle with dishes, but want the convenience of disposable items, you can find disposables made from rice, wood, and potato products. These, unlike plastic, can be composted or dissolve naturally over a short period of time. Get lit. Many couples love the ambience white light provides at their reception, but this trend often involves a multitude of string lights and numerous outlets which require a lot of energy. Instead of buying any old strings of lights, look for LED options featuring Energy Star ratings to save power and prevent unneeded energy use. Donate leftover items. Many of us overplan and find ourselves with extra decorations, flowers, food, and more. Others would love to enjoy or use this surplus! Instead of trashing extras, consider donating your extra resellable items to a charity thrift store, giving flowers to a hospital or church, or ask about donating leftover nibbles to a mission or food kitchen.
