A constant favorite is golf tournaments. Thompson Education Foundation is a partner with MBD Marketing and Events and this August we have planned their first ever golf tournament fundraiser! Planning an event for the first time always takes time and energy researching how others have done it in the past and asking for helpful tips from experts. While we have planned others, no client wants a carbon copy of someone else's event. Here are some ideas on how to make any golf tournament a success! 1. Location Location is key to a successful golf tournament. Christine with MBD Marketing and Events say that “It's great to have a committed and supportive golf course partner, as they can make all the difference in the success of the event!” Part of this process involves being prepared for bad weather so having a golf course that can accommodate tents or an inside venue for your guests is something to consider when choosing a location. 2. Number of Players and Inventory The location of the golf tournament can determine how many players you can accommodate. Some golf courses will open up the entire course for your event while others like to reserve only nine holes at a time. You also need to consider the style of play. Timed play, shotgun, 'best ball' or scramble? Each has pros and cons regarding timing. Once you have your head count confirmed, figuring out inventory such as golf carts, caddies, food, goodie bags and any other things needed for the event is important! 3. Food Depending on you golf course partner, food can be offered through their kitchen and snack carts! Now it is time to decide what will be offered to your players. Will you have an early start? Breakfast, mimosas and bloody mary’s are a great way to kick off your event! Maybe you have multiple starts throughout the day and would like to offer a buffet of finger foods instead. Some like to have a banquet after the tournament is over to celebrate and give out awards and say thank you to their guests. There are usually a lot of options when it comes to the food and snacks at a golf tournament. Food and beverage can be the greatest cost at any event, so weighing that cost with ticket prices for your foursomes to ensure monies are still being raised for your non-profit require careful planning and balance. 4. Fundraising Event Sponsors Is the golf tournament you are planning for a non-profit to help raise funds for a cause? Soliciting sponsors for each hole, snack cart, golf carts and to help ensure the players are well fed can be great ways to advertise local businesses while saving on costs. You can easily have 18 sponsors with 18 holes. The rest depends on how large the golf course is and how you would like to accommodate the other sponsors. Christine said that this was part of her more exciting and interesting aspects of the planning process stating, “Creating fun sponsorship opportunities and contests for our golfers brings me the most joy in golf tournament planning.” 5. Contests, Raffles and Giveaways!
Planning interesting ways for your players to interact more than just playing golf at your event can really help peak guest interest. From trophies for all sorts of reasons to silent auctions, to having “Hole-in-One” prizes are all a great way to get your players excited to be there and hopefully to make them want to come back again to future events! Everyone loves to help raise money for a good cause but when you can add in a little extra fun with side bets and giveaways, people feel even more rewarded for being a part of a meaningful event! There are always unseen challenges, Christine said that “Making our tournament unique and special, so it's not like all the rest,” was one of her more challenging tasks. “Just like any event, there are tons of moving parts, so organization is key.” Remember to have fun and plan ahead! Happy Golfing! This month kicks off our 15th Anniversary Year celebrations and acknowledgments. My Big Day Marketing & Events started as a hobby and past-time for President Christine Forster, and has flourished and grown over the past 15 years to a hustling and bustling events and marketing agency. Let the Celebration and trip down Memory Lane begin! Little known fact -- Christine filed the paperwork with the State of Colorado, recognizing My Big Day as a business on June 14, 2007. The “go-to” party planner for her group of friends, Christine took her dream and made it a reality when she signed on the dotted line and set up My Big Day as a full-fledged business, recognized by the State of Colorado. First My Big Day Event The very first My Big Day event that Christine took on was Adult Prom! She had the help of a planning committee -- her closest friends, and together they pulled off an 80’s/90's inspired night to remember. My Big Day Grows From there, My Big Day grew to incorporate some now, long-running MBD staples -- Easter Keg Hunt & Sloshball. These fabulous favorites soon became known as My Big Day Signature Events. These events were created out of a desire to gather a group of friends together for some fun, and they have grown to some of the largest Northern Colorado premiere Community Events! The NoCo Easter Keg Hunt and Sloshball have been hosted for 13 and 14 years respectively! My Big Day Marketing & Events over the years With the vision and leadership provided by Christine, My Big Day has grown -- not only in the number of events that are curated each year, but in staffing, in partnerships, and in scope! Over the years, My Big Day has gone from My Big Day Company to My Big Day Marketing & Events. Forced to pivot to a more marketing-driven focus during the 2020 pandemic, My Big Day has risen to the challenge of balancing small business growth while keeping the same fun and glittery feel that was present at the beginning. A staff of one and a committee of friends has grown into a team of 9 women entrepreneurs. Over the years, this collective of creative thinkers has produced over 250 weddings, developed and implemented over 33 custom events for clients and the greater community, and built partnerships and grown client accounts, managing over 29 fundraisers annually! The marketing side of My Big Day manages over 35 websites and social media accounts for clients and organizations. The Future is Bright 15 years in business is no small accomplishment! Growth has come from the dreams and vision of a skillful leader, a dedicated creative team of professionals, a forward-thinking internship program, and the support and partnerships of many organizations, businesses, and event-related networking groups --Partners that take a leap of faith and are excited by creative planning, and clients who trust the larger visions will be met with the fine details in event planning that the MBD team excels at. We are grateful to all of our clients and event partners. As we embark on a year of memories and celebrations, we also look with our glittery eyes towards the future. We can’t wait to see where the next 15 years take My Big Day. And hang on tight -- because a full team of event planners is bound to plan and execute an anniversary celebration to remember! “Level Up” is the buzz phrase for Larimer County’s bars and restaurants. The Level Up program allows county businesses to operate one level below the county’s current COVID safety level. So what does that mean, exactly? If Larimer County as a whole is at level Yellow (Concern), as it is currently, approved Level Up businesses can operate one level below – in this example, level Blue (Caution). Higher levels come with stricter requirements, but businesses that have been approved can operate with fewer restrictions. Achieving Level Up status requires a lot from businesses. Bars and restaurants participating in the program must:
Bars and restaurants currently operating at level Blue must adhere to the following guidelines:

Now, we’re taking some time to really get to know our special 2021 MBD wedding couple - Eriq & Ashley. They have a fun and exciting love story, and we can’t wait to see it come full circle in September when they tie the knot on top of The Elizabeth Hotel in front of family and friends. We sent a series of questions to both Eriq & Ashley and here are some of their responses: How did you two meet? Eriq: Well we met on tinder. I was over tinder but decided to go back through my matches to see if I had missed anyone worthwhile, and there she was! She had orange hair in the pic, and orange is my fav color so I took it as a sign, lol. I hit her up, and we went on our 1st date at the now non-existent Enzios. We pretty much laughed the whole time, and hit it off pretty great, and agreed to more dates. I had to go to Tour de Fat the next day because- obviously - but she had her son Zep, so she couldn't make it. We snapchatted all day and it made her laugh, so that's cool. Ashley: We met on Tinder, and by the time that we set up a date I was almost finished with the tinder experience. We started our relationship on a last hope, lol. What was your first impression? Ashley: First impression was shock, because I actually finally liked the guy I was on a date with! I remember his amazing skin color and how nice his smile was. I could also carry a nice conversation with him, unlike my other Tinder dates.
Why do you love Ashley? Why do I love Ash....sheesh, how long do you want this to get?? I love Ash for who she is, what she's accomplished, and what she's capable of in the future. She's my person, my ultimate ride or die, and even though we can never ever ever play monopoly together, we make a really great team! Why do you love Eriq? I love Eriq because he is my other half. He will always have my back and will love me endlessly. He accepts me for who I am and loves me despite my flaws and weaknesses. What are your honeymoon plans? Eriq: Our honeymoon is kinda cliche. We plan on going to Greece or somewhere in the Mediterranean, and chill for about ten days or so. Ashley: Hopefully, if things go as planned, we will be spending our Honeymoon in Greece! But not before we celebrate Tour De Fat!! So excited to party the day after the wedding as well for one of the biggest events that Fort Collins hosts! Contact MBD Marketing & Events

Oprah does this too. Smart ladies! Last year, a few of us on the team picked up on this practice and really felt great about focusing on a word that would help with the trajectory of our year and what we would most like to focus on. This year... we're thinking bigger. We have personal words, focus words for multiple clients, and a focus word for our company. In 2021, our word is FORWARD. For us, forward is the direction in which we are heading. After an unusual and record-breaking year, we remain eternally optimistic about the future of events and our capabilities in being the GO TO Marketing & Events company in Northern Colorado who can reinvent and reimagine... quickly!
