Thoughtful Gifts for Today's College Grad

5/31/2015

Graduation season is upon us.  It often comes quicker than you think.

College graduates have many needs in order to prepare for their new life.  Here are a few ideas for awesome presents most graduates need.

We know they will always need reliable transportation to and from college or their new career. New or used -- a car is always a great gift and much appreciated.

Another much needed present is professional wardrobe.  It’s often tough enough getting a job as a new college graduate,  so first impressions should be outstanding.

Some people are the sentimental type and love getting frames or shadow boxes of memories you collected from their friends to put together.

Finally the most coveted gift by grads is money. Oh yes, money. You can give the gift of money in a number of creative ways.

Visit the My Big Day Graduation Pinterest Board for plenty of gift ideas!

Holiday Party Games for Your Company Party -- Part Two

12/3/2014

-by Jessica Weimer

Looking for some holiday party games that don’t make your employees cringe? My Big Day has compiled a list of our favorite Holiday party games for you to try this year at your company party! They are guaranteed to make sure your employees have a good time!
Picture
5) Holiday Card Game.
This is a great holiday party game if you are in a smaller group that can be broken up into two teams. You can even add a fun twist and do men verse woman. Our favorite is a holiday trivia game, where you ask questions about Christmas or Christmas themed things and then the 2 teams are competing for the most questions answered correctly. You’ll be surprised with things you didn’t know about!

6) Paper Plate game.
This is always a pleaser at baby showers but can be a great game for your company party! Have each guest get a paper plate and pen. Start by placing the plate on top of your head and then have the players draw something Christmas themed, such as an ornament or a gift box, nothing too hard. They will have to draw this without looking and on top of their head. Whoever draws the item closest to what it was supposed to look like wins!

7) White Elephant gifts are always a fun addition to any party.
You have the choice of theming them to be funny or as simple as everyone bringing a $10 gift card from somewhere. This encourages guests to swap out gift cards all night and see which of the best ones they can collect! If you do a themed white elephant, such as bring your favorite movie, this is fun because no one knows what they are getting! You start by having the wrapped gift and then picking from a stack. Once you pick you unwrap and see what you got, but the next person who picks can either steal yours or grab a new one! This is a fun way for employees to interact.

8) Gaming can be a really fun time for your employees as well as fit a casino theme perfectly! This could involve fake money and cash in for certain company prizes. This would get everyone involved and having a good time. Definitely not your typical holiday party!

Holiday Party Games For Your Company Party - Part One

11/27/2014

-by Jessica Weimer

Looking for some holiday party games that don’t make your employees cringe? My Big Day has compiled a list of our favorite Holiday party games for you to try this year at your company party! They are guaranteed to make sure your employees have a good time!

1.  Scavenger Hunt. This can be a perfect activity if done in the right venue and with the right clues. If you are choosing to host a Holiday party in a downtown area with businesses around you, this is a perfect game. You would need to gather your employees into groups and give them a list of what they are searching for. This could be as simple as someone wearing a Christmas sweater or it could have a fun twist on it such as take a picture with a Santa. This will get your employees working as a team and also give them an activity that is fun and playful.

2.  Piñata for Adults. While this may sound wildly inappropriate for a adult company party, it is surprisingly fun and entertaining for the older crowd. Get a standard piñata and fill it will fun adult prizes such as, $5 bills, gift cards and full size candy bars. Pass around the bat and watch as grown-ups take a swing and have a great time!
3.  Employee Trivia. This is crowd pleasing game that most any company can do. Ask your employees to submit two facts about themselves, the funnier the better! Then at the party give the guest’s sheets of paper with the facts grouped together so throughout the night they are trying to guess who said what! At the end compile the scores and see who won. You wouldn’t need to read which facts went to each person if they’d be uncomfortable with that

4.  Name that Christmas song. This game is popular because it works! Give employees sheets of paper and start by playing traditional holiday songs. As you play the short clips the employees must guess which holiday song you just played. The one who answers the most correct wins!

Why You Should Say YES To Boudoir Photos

11/8/2014

-by Jessica Weimer

Boudoir photo shoots have become more and more popular with brides in the last couple years. The idea of boudoir is to take sexy pictures in pretty lingerie and give it to your man on the wedding day so he can anticipate the night to come. Some brides don’t understand this tradition or don’t understand the need for it; we are here to tell you it is something you definitely don’t want to miss out on, not just for your future husband, who will definitely appreciate the thought, but for yourself!

Here are our top 3 reasons you should say YES to a boudoir shoot:

Picture
1.  It’s fun! When chatting with a newly married friend of mine, I asked her her experience with boudoir. She told me at first she was not into it; she couldn’t understand how she wouldn’t feel weird being half naked and having someone take her picture. But then she told me how the photographer started off by asking what her favorite features were and what her fiancé loved most about her body, she would then position her in poses that accentuated these qualities. This made her feel more confident about how the pictures would turn out. The photographer would then tell her she looked great or that pose was really sexy and it made her feel empowered! Having these pictures taken isn’t just for your fiancé to enjoy it is also a great way for you to enjoy yourself and boost your self-esteem by realizing you are beautiful!
Picture
2.  You get to wear really fun underwear. One of the best parts of boudoir is going and buying the sexy lingerie. This is a fun girl trip and gives you the chance to get something really beautiful and fun that your fiancé will go crazy for! If you really wanted to get creative you can incorporate your fiancés button up shirt or use props like pearls and fans, this creates a totally new and fun look.
Picture
3.  You don’t have to be naked. Some woman can think boudoir is borderline porn, just naked pictures, but boudoir doesn’t have to be like that! If you get a good photographer who has a good eye, your pictures can be very artistic and play with shadows and angles just right, that it is suggestive more than full frontal. These pictures can sometimes turn out more sexy and alluring because they are just a hint of something more.
We think choosing to do boudoir isn’t just for your fiancé, but for yourself and learning to love your body the way it is.  Wedding planning can be stressful and this is a great way to get away from the details and focus on doing something special for your future husband. Once you try it you won’t regret the way it made you feel or the fun time you had!

Wedding Favor Ideas

9/24/2014

by Jessica Weimer

When planning a wedding, most brides first thought doesn’t always go to favors. Usually it’s the dress or the décor or the amazing food they plan on having.  But favors are not something to be overlooked, especially nowadays when favors can be so fun and creative! No more with the old school bag of candy coated almonds that used to be the expected favor. Now thanks to Pinterest, and all the crafters out there, you can make your favors as memorable as your wedding.  These are My Big Day's Top 5 favorite creative ideas for wedding favors -  whether it is a DIY project for you and your bridesmaids or something customized your guests can enjoy for years to come.
1)     One of our favorite DIY favors is the pre-packaged s’mores.

These are the cutest favors for each guest’s place setting and they will loved by all!  They are really easy to make and won’t break the bank. All you need is a couple bags of graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate, as well as small bags and twine to tie each one. If you really want to get creative get nametags and write a cute phrase such as ‘S’more Love’. Then gather all your bridesmaids to come help out in the construction of each baggie.

2)     Another really great favor for your guests is the homemade hangover kit.

This kit includes Tylenol for your aching head, water, a snack bar, hair ties, breath mints, tums and sunglasses. Now you don’t have to include that entire list but your guests will appreciate the thought the next morning after a long night of fun!

3)     If you are looking to do something that every one of your guests will enjoy than you don’t need to look any further than send home boxes of Krispy Kreme Donuts!

Who doesn’t love these melt in your mouth circles of deliciousness? You could even ask Krispy Kreme to frost them in your wedding color for an added touch. Guests will be impressed as well as truly thankful for such a yummy treat!

4)     If you really want your wedding favors to reflect you two as a couple but also give your guests something to use for a long time, then picture coasters are a really fun idea.

You just need to choose pics of either you and the groom or maybe someplace fun you went to. Then get them printed on a coaster and guests can use them in their home and always think of the fun time they had at your event! This is a great idea for the couple who travels a lot.

5)     Most times wedding favors tend to be more geared to woman, with the exception of any food related item. If you are wanted something to really impress the men in attendance than this favor is what you are looking for.

Cigars and match sets are something not everyone does as a favor but will definitely be appreciated by the male attendee’s
