No event – no matter how well-planned and well-run – is immune to the occasional crisis or disaster. My Big Day believes a good event planner will be able to think on his or her feet for the small stuff, and have a solid crisis plan in place for dealing with the biggies. You can’t possibly expect to plan for every type of crisis, but a little advance planning will go a long way to ensure that you can handle whatever comes your way!
If you are well prepared, chances are you won't need the Plan B. But that one time when everything goes wrong, you'll be glad you were prepared!
-My Big Day
One of these signature events is the annual 'Easter Keg Hunt.' The Easter Keg Hunt is a public scavenger hunt for adults, held in Old Town Fort Collins. Teams register to play in groups of 6-9. Prior to the event they are given a team color and a list of 'tools' to bring, which will help them solve clues. Teams show off their Easter spirit with wild costumes on the day of the event. At kick-off teams are given their first Easter egg, which contains their first clue to a business on the scavenger hunt route. Once they make it to that business, they are given another egg with another clue. Stops along the route include dares, challenges, and some drinking! The final clue leads teams to a restaurant where we toast the winning team and share stories.
Their tagline is, "Scooterhinge, A Nostalgic Rental Hall." But this venue in Mead, Colorado is more than nostalgic. It's eclectic, it's strange... it's downright a museum of the odd and unusual! The My Big Day team went on a site visit of Scooterhinge to get an idea of what future signature events might makes sense in this space. We also receive requests for affordable event spaces where clients have the option to bring their own caterer and alcohol. This place offers all of that and more! So we wanted to get a feel of what this venue is all about before we make referrals to our clients. Located between Loveland and Longmont, Mead is a town of less than 4,000 people. The owner of Scooterhinge is a collector of sorts. He purchased this building and started bringing in his collectibles (old motorcycles, classic cars, vintage dolls, nostalgic toys, the list goes on.)
This is a first for My Big Day! We sell out of our events often, but never has it happened in less than 24 hours from when tickets went on sale. We are so honored that in our 6th year of this event, we have created so much demand! On April 19th we will have more than 100 players running around Old Town Fort Collins, hunting for eggs, and the ultimate prize, The Easter Keg! This is more players than we have ever had before! Due to the growing size of this event, we have now partnered with Avogadros Number in Fort Collins to be our new 'kick-off' location. We will also have 3 photographers on hand to photograph the craziness of this event. This year we've also partnered with NoCo Short Bus Tours to offer safe transportation home for our teams and players.
Lastly, My Big Day is giving a portion of all proceeds from this event to one of our favorite animal shelters, Denkai Animal Sanctuary. Thank you for all of your support! Our events continue to grow, and we love you for that! If you are a business, or work for a company looking for fun activities for your next company party, contact My Big Day! Many people don’t realize it, but music plays a crucial part in your event. The band or DJ sets the mood for your special day so the importance of having a true professional is pivotal. To ensure you are getting a professional-- listen to referrals, go out and see the band play or at the very least conduct a phone interview. After you’ve listened to them, arm yourself with these questions to ask your DJ or band -- and you should be prepared to dance the night away. Below is My Big Day's helpful list of 26 questions you should be asking!
Balloons... Confetti.... Glitter... Champagne... Dancing.... These are a few of our favorite things! But what most of our clients look to us for is vendor recommendations. A good event planner knows who and where to find the right service that suits what you are looking for. And when they find a venue, vendor, or valuable contact - they refer them! Visit our "Favorite Things" page on our website to find a list of places, people and things we love! And if you think someone or someplace is missing, let us know. We love meeting new people too! CLICK HERE to visit our "Favorite Things" Looking for that needle in a haystack for your meeting or event? A good, affordable, flexible, centrally located venue is hard to find! My Big Day receives requests from friends, clients and complete strangers weekly to pass on our 'little known secret' venues. While we can't promise any of our favorite venues are secret, we can say that the places below do meet much of our commonly requested criteria. Check out our recommended venues in Northern Colorado below. And... to pull your event off without a hitch, consider hiring an event planner!
Hiring a great caterer can help eliminate so much unnecessary event stress. The best team will help with some of the small, yet very important details. Often when considering a variety of caterers, people base their decision on one of two things: a sample tasting, or the price. Of course, there is so much more to consider outside of those two things. Ensure you get the best of the best by asking your potential caterer the following questions in your interview process.
