Nearly 30 people in the United States die daily in drunk-driving crashes--one person every 50 minutes. In 2019, over
8,500 people were arrested for DUIs in Colorado. A needs assessment completed in October 2018 found that DUI/DWAI
offenses are a significant issue in Larimer County. In 2019, locally collected survey data from the Health District of
Northern Larimer County indicates that nearly 1 in 10 residents have driven after having 2 or more alcoholic drinks in the
hour before. Very recently, Larimer County was found to be third in the state for DUI-related fatalities.
No DUI Larimer is tackling this issue through a variety of methods. We rely on research regarding the factors that
influence individuals’ decisions to drive when impaired, as well as strategies that have been proven effective in
promoting good decisions. One such strategy that our steering committee is focused on is “safe rides home” or “using
alternative transportation”. Our specific efforts include:
No DUI Larimer is a campaign encouraging the public to “Make the Call” to end impaired driving in our community. Make the Call to get a safe ride home; Make the Call about whether you should get behind the wheel, and Make the Call to report suspected impaired drivers. Driving under the influence IS an emergency--please call 911 if you see someone that you suspect is driving impaired,
Ending impaired driving is a joint effort between law enforcement, government agencies, alcohol and cannabis retailers, local nonprofits, and the community. We need your help to stop impaired driving before it happens, and when it’s happening. Thank you for doing your part.

- A county wide marketing campaign called “Make the Call”
- Data collection and interpretation regarding DUI/DWAI incidents in partnership with local law enforcement
- Partnership with local ride share company zTrip to incentivize individuals to choose ride share options
- Retailor education
- Conversation with the City of Fort Collins event permitting staff to explore adding a rideshare/carpool
- requirement to the permit approval process for any community events that serve alcohol
- Initiating conversation with policy/decision makers regarding policy changes that may align with this work
