Finding the perfect spot for your next photo shoot! Northern Colorado has no shortage of scenic backdrops that are perfect for photoshoots - both professional and impromptu selfies. As event planners who are often asked for recommendations, we have pulled together a list of some of the best locations in NoCo. Reference this list for your next family mini-session, graduation shoot, engagement photos, or a fun afternoon with you and your closest friends! Favorite Spots for Family & Senior Photos Rocky Mountain National Park - This location offers some of the most majestic mountain views around! It is very popular in the fall - especially with the variety of golds, oranges, and reds - perfect for family photos that are worthy of a Christmas Card! There are multiple locations inside the park to choose from, including, but not limited to, Bear Lake, Sprague Lake, and Moraine Park. Horsetooth Reservoir - Located just west of Fort Collins proper, this picturesque setting has great options for foothills and water backdrops. Also a great spot for engagement and wedding photos! Riverbend Ponds Natural Area - This location is a hidden natural area surrounded by city - making it a perfect spot if you want more than one location for your photoshoot or session. You can easily travel from this beautiful natural setting to downtown Fort Collins for a completely different look. We are partial to this location in the fall - it is often full of vibrant yellows and oranges - perfect for fall senior photo shoots! Arapaho Bend Natural Area - Perhaps one of the most photographed areas for family photos! This iconic bridge and beautiful wooded areas are the perfect setting for any shoot! CSU Annual Flower Trial Gardens - Located in the heart of downtown Fort Collins, this spot is perfect for family photos, engagement sessions, group photos before school dances, or just some fun selfies with friends. Depending on when you go, there will be different background colors to suit your taste! Stunning Engagement and Wedding Spots All of the previously mentioned locations would work for engagement and wedding photos, too, but these next spots are undeniably perfect! South Mesa Trailhead - Located near Boulder, CO, this location is a perfect spot to capture important engagement poses or a quick post-wedding photoshoot. Gather shots on the trail itself, or find a nearby stream. Chataqua Park - Also located near Boulder, CO, this spot has some beautiful vistas and scenery great for any time of year. Hike through fields of yellow grass or snow to catch a perfect shot! Old Town Fort Collins/Downtown Loveland - Downtown Fort Collins or 4th Street in downtown Loveland offer some chic and more urban shots to suit weddings and group photos. Perfect for family and senior photos as well! You can find examples of all of these locations and more under the weddings tab on our website. Use our website for inspiration! Now what? Before you dive head-first into wedding planning, here are some of My Big Day’s to-dos immediately after you get engaged.
5. Discuss engagement length – Make sure you and your fiancé are on the same page about the length of your engagement and the timing of your wedding. For some people, a few months sounds just right. Others wouldn’t dream of an engagement lasting less than two years. You don’t have to pick a date yet, but make sure you and your future spouse’s priorities and timelines are in harmony. 6. Spend time together, alone – Celebrating your engagement can be great fun, but it can also be an overwhelming time that invites everyone’s opinions and advice – whether you ask for it or not. Take some time as a couple to have some fun dates and relax before throwing yourselves into wedding planning. 7. Brainstorm themes, budget, and guest list – Before you really start planning, have some casual conversations about your future wedding. Will it be an elopement, or a blowout event with 500 guests? Do you want to spend your savings on the wedding of your dreams, or would you rather have a small event and save the money for a honeymoon or down payment? 8. Hire a planner! – If we didn’t already help you plan your ideal engagement party, then this is where we come in. We offer packages tailored to large weddings or small weddings, full-service or day-of only, and everything in-between. Learn more about My Big Day’s wedding packages HERE. Today’s events now have their own wedding hashtag and web site. And it’s also not uncommon for couples to use social platforms as a means to share event updates. But how much technology is too much for such a private occasion? Nothing ever disappears on the ‘net, and sometimes this reality can lead to an ultimate nightmare—and perhaps even a cancelled wedding! So how much is too much when it comes to utilizing technology? Like all wedding details, even technology requires a little bit of grace and etiquette. When pulling in social networks for your wedding—and the ‘net—here are a few tips to keep in mind and to keep you from becoming too tangled in the world wide web of weddings. Don’t overshare. Yes, everyone loves a quick Facebook or twitter update about your weddings. However, some details need to be kept under wraps. Like your wedding dress designer and, of course, the dress itself. Do post a few crazy dresses that you vetoed, though. The poufier the better! When posting updates, also be sure to not give away any surprises for guests. Don’t email a thank you note. Always send a thank you note for any shower or wedding gifts received. However, never, ever email a note of thanks. Etiquette dictates that thank you notes should be handwritten. Keep it short and sweet, but make that note personal! Share registry info via word of mouth. Some couples think that wedding registry information can be sent with an invite. Think again! While you can post your registries on a wedding website, the information about registries must be shared via word of mouth. Keep certain ‘fun’ pictures private. No one needs to see those crazy—and perhaps embarrassing—photos of the bachelor or bachelorette parties. Do not ever share embarrassing photos of guests, the bride, the groom or any friends without permission. Understand the copyrights. The couple does not necessarily own the rights to photos taken by a professional photographer. Often copyrights are owned by the photographer, and you need permission to share any copyrighted image. Don’t post copyrighted images on social media unless you get written permission from your photographer. This is something that can easily be added to your contract. Set tech boundaries for guests. If you don’t want hundreds of phones snapping pictures at your wedding, then make sure guests are aware of your wishes. It’s ok to tell guests to keep their phones off during your wedding. This ensures that you aren’t distracted by all those flashing phones and that a guest’s ringer doesn’t disrupt your vows! Technology and the web can add to how we plan and commemorate a wedding. However, sometimes there can be too much tech. Use social media and technology to add to your wedding, but don’t go overboard to the point of being tech obsessed. Share a few details via Facebook or Twitter and keep out-of-town friends and family updated on the important happenings. But avoid spilling secrets and surprises and definitely don’t post any photos that could embarrass a friend or relative. If you want guests to limit their use of technology at your wedding, make sure that all guests know that phones cannot be used carte blanche throughout the ceremony. Set boundaries and stick to them, and always use common sense before posting anything online—especially when a copyright is involved!

Thank you to all who supported the 2018 Group Wedding in the Sweetheart City, Loveland CO.
We hope to see you in 2019! Check out the event details here: http://www.valentinesdayinloveland.com/ This event is based in Loveland, CO but serves all of Colorado and surrounding states. While the majority of our guests come from Northern Colorado and Denver, we have had wedding couples join us from NE, WY, MS, and MO! Celebrate Valentine's Day in the most unique way with us! 40.3395° N, 105.5734° W Something very special happened on this spot! If you look this location up in your smartphone, you will likely find a picture of love - the love between Jen & Antonio! In reality, these are the coordinates for the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, and it was the beautiful site for the delightful reception celebrating the marriage of our clients, Jen and Antonio Garcia. Jen is a close My Big Day friend, and we were ecstatic to be a part of her Big Day! The day’s celebrations started in a cabin, aptly named “Blessings” on the YMCA site. Family members and the wedding party, met there to prepare for the nuptials at a local Catholic church, Our Lady of the Mountains, as well as to gather to surround both Jen and Antonio with love. There were pictures, primping, hugs, and mimosas. After the beautiful ceremony, guests were invited to gather in the large ballroom on the YMCA site. There they were served delicious drinks at an open bar, as well as homemade appetizers and snacks while they waited for the wedding party to return from a quick after ceremony photo shoot. The evening was full of good food, drink, and entertainment provided by Suit & Tie DJ services. The highlight of the evening had to be during the speeches when Maid of Honor and Sister of the Bride turned her speech into a rap, complete with background singers. The crowd was enthralled as she “rocked the mic like a vandal”! Guests danced the night away, and made several trips to the photobooth provided by Blue Orchid Photography. The decor that the bride and groom chose for their reception site was full of personal and familial touches. There was a memory table filled with photos of family members and important friends who had passed. Their guestbook was a beautifully honed piece of wood with their wedding date and coordinates for guests to sign. They had a date jar and more photos of special dates in their relationship on display as well. It was very evident that the couple’s family and friends were a very important part of their relationship and life together. We absolutely loved being able to be a part of this couple’s big day - the fact that Jen is a close My Big Day friend made it even more special and fun!
