One of these signature events is the annual 'Easter Keg Hunt.' The Easter Keg Hunt is a public scavenger hunt for adults, held in Old Town Fort Collins. Teams register to play in groups of 6-9. Prior to the event they are given a team color and a list of 'tools' to bring, which will help them solve clues. Teams show off their Easter spirit with wild costumes on the day of the event. At kick-off teams are given their first Easter egg, which contains their first clue to a business on the scavenger hunt route. Once they make it to that business, they are given another egg with another clue. Stops along the route include dares, challenges, and some drinking! The final clue leads teams to a restaurant where we toast the winning team and share stories.
Many factors should be weighed when deciding on the right amount of food for your event. Of course, first you must know the number of people attending. However, the length of the event is also very important, as is the type of event and the type of food you plan to serve. For example, an evening cocktail party requires considerably less food than an entire afternoon or all-day event. The longer guests remain, the more they’ll consume. It’s funny, but over time people get hungry and thirsty over and over again. When estimating, always round up to be on the safe side. Some will eat more, others less. It will all balance out in the end. Try to anticipate which foods/drinks are most popular and will disappear quickly. Order more of these selections.
This is a first for My Big Day! We sell out of our events often, but never has it happened in less than 24 hours from when tickets went on sale. We are so honored that in our 6th year of this event, we have created so much demand! On April 19th we will have more than 100 players running around Old Town Fort Collins, hunting for eggs, and the ultimate prize, The Easter Keg! This is more players than we have ever had before! Due to the growing size of this event, we have now partnered with Avogadros Number in Fort Collins to be our new 'kick-off' location. We will also have 3 photographers on hand to photograph the craziness of this event. This year we've also partnered with NoCo Short Bus Tours to offer safe transportation home for our teams and players.
Lastly, My Big Day is giving a portion of all proceeds from this event to one of our favorite animal shelters, Denkai Animal Sanctuary. Thank you for all of your support! Our events continue to grow, and we love you for that! If you are a business, or work for a company looking for fun activities for your next company party, contact My Big Day! Many people don’t realize it, but music plays a crucial part in your event. The band or DJ sets the mood for your special day so the importance of having a true professional is pivotal. To ensure you are getting a professional-- listen to referrals, go out and see the band play or at the very least conduct a phone interview. After you’ve listened to them, arm yourself with these questions to ask your DJ or band -- and you should be prepared to dance the night away. Below is My Big Day's helpful list of 26 questions you should be asking!
Balloons... Confetti.... Glitter... Champagne... Dancing.... These are a few of our favorite things! But what most of our clients look to us for is vendor recommendations. A good event planner knows who and where to find the right service that suits what you are looking for. And when they find a venue, vendor, or valuable contact - they refer them! Visit our "Favorite Things" page on our website to find a list of places, people and things we love! And if you think someone or someplace is missing, let us know. We love meeting new people too! My Big Day receives requests from friends, clients and complete strangers weekly to pass on our 'little known secret' venues. While we can't promise any of our favorite venues are secret, we can say that the places below do meet much of our commonly requested criteria. TIMELINE These are general guidelines to keep in mind concerning what needs to be done and when. You may be on a tighter deadline, or have luxurious amounts of time (lucky!). Generally, you should start planning three months in advance so your attendees can arrange their schedule, speakers can begin to prepare their presentations, and you can relax a bit. Every program is different, so adapt this timeline as needed. ORGANIZE MEETING NOTES AND MATERIALS AND REVIEW YOUR TIMELINES Once you’ve established the framework of your meeting and know its general requirements, you’re ready to contact hotels and discuss planning specifics. You’ll find it helpful to set up an organizer with sections for the various planning steps, so you can keep all the meeting information in one place. Some suggested section titles include: Schedules, Audiovisual equipment, Budget, Food and Beverage, Contacts, Recreation, Rooming list , Speakers, Ground transportation, Entertainment, Event communications, Spouse programs, Meeting room setups ,VIPs 3 TO 5 MONTHS OUT •Determine the objective of your meeting •Get your budget approved •Check calendar of events taking place near your desired venue to avoid conflicts •Book meeting site and necessary hotel rooms •Speak to Meetings Director or Sales Manager about menus and meeting room needs •Set up master account for meeting charges and determine who can sign for charges •Invite speakers and provide scope of desired presentation •Invite attendees •Make travel arrangements •Decide on any marketing needs; begin creative development AT LEAST ONE MONTH BEFORE EVENT •Confirm menus, room setups and supplies in writing with your Meetings Director •Reach out to speakers/vendors to check on their presentations (they’ll likely need urging) •Inform hotel of guest arrival time so front desk can be properly staffed •Order gifts and amenities •Order signs and printed materials •Introduce any marketing materials into market •Mail agenda and any brochures to attendees; suggest a dress code and arrival times Cont.... ---------------------------------------- For a full list of to do's, download our PDF below
My Big Day would be crazy not to post about Valentine's Day, since we LOVE love and parties! And we'd also be crazy not to promote the FUN packages we have put together for Valentine's Day. In the 10 years we've lived in Loveland, and 8 years in business, we've always longed for more to do in our great Sweetheart City! Loveland is not only home of the Valentine's re-mailing program, and streets lined with giant wooden hearts with loving messages... we are the home of Valentine's Day! We take great pride in celebrating love. With our friends, Heidi from Heiditown and Mechelle from NoCo Short Bus Tours, we decided to put together packages that celebrate Valentine's Day and all our city has to offer.
- press release from HeidiTown - Three Northern Colorado businesses roll out “My Big Date Night,” a Valentine’s Day getaway in Loveland Loveland, Colorado January 7, 2014 – It’s been the sweetheart city since 1877, and now there is a great reason to make Loveland, Colorado your destination this Valentine’s Day. Three Loveland-based businesses have come together to create My Big Date Night, a package that includes dining, beer and spirit tasting and an overnight stay at one of three local hotels. "Loveland has been an art destination for years, but we also want people to realize it’s a wonderful Valentine’s Day destination,” said Christine Kovacs Forster, founder of My Big Day Events, LLC, an event planning company in Loveland. Ms. Forster, along with Mechelle Martz-Mayfield, owner of NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC, a brewery tour service, and Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, founder of HeidiTown.com, the place for Colorado festival and travel information, came together to create My Big Date Night.
The package is available on February 14th and 15th and again on February 21st and 22nd, with brewery tours available on Fridays and distillery tours available on Saturdays. Each package includes transportation, tasters at each stop and an overnight stay including dinner for two at La Quinta Inn, Best Western or Embassy Suites. “The prices vary depending on which hotel you choose,” said Martz-Mayfield. “Embassy Suites is offering a decadent meal just for this event, so a stay with them will be more expensive, however, all the versions are affordable at between $226 and $325. There’s even a $150 option with dinner and the brewery or distillery tour only, but our hope is that people will make a weekend out of it and will stay overnight.” Other package amenities include a gift bag stuffed with offers from local businesses and a cupcake at the end of the night from Be Sweet Cupcakes in downtown Loveland. “This is about fun and romance in the Sweetheart City,” said Kerr-Schlaefer. “It will be a memorable way for folks from across the Front Range to experience Loveland, and hopefully they will be inspired to come back to experience it again and again.” My Big Date Night is brought to you by My Big Day, LLC, NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC and HeidiTown.com, and has been endorsed by Visit Loveland. For more information on the subject matter of the press release call Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer at (970) 213-2354, email TheMayor@HeidiTown.com or go to ValentinesDayinLoveland.com. We’ve all seen amazing images of beautiful people with the perfect setting and perfect lighting in a stunning shot. Pinterest has given us all sorts of ideas for creative photos, but how do you ensure you get the right professional for your BIG day? We have all the questions and tips for you to weed through the never-ending list of potential photographers and get the professional you deserve. Potential Wedding Photographer Questions:
1. What is your style of photography? Traditional, Artistic, Natural Light, Photojournalism, Illustrative, etc. 2. How many events have you shot in your career? 3. How did you get into Photography? (They should be able to give you a verbal resume) 4. Have you ever shot at our venue? If they haven’t, ask them to go do a site visit. 5. Do you bring in your own lighting? The answer should be a resounding, Yes! If they do not expect a detailed answer as to why they work without their own lighting. 6. How many events will you shoot on the day of our event? 7. Can I request certain images are taken at the wedding? If yes, ask how they will ensure to capture these images. 8. How many hours are included in your package? 9. How much does an additional hour of coverage cost? 10. Do you bring a second shooter? Depending on the event, a second shooter can be crucial to capture all the important moments. 11. How many images can I expect to see from my event? On average photographers take between 1,200 and 1,500 images at your event but that doesn’t mean you will see all of those! You can plan to see anywhere from 150 to 400 images from your event, depending on its length. 12. Do you have a limit to the amount of images you will edit? The answer to this should be “No”. 13. How long does it take to see the proofs from my wedding? 14. Do I receive a disc of images or do I have to order all prints through you? 15. How much are prints? 16. Is an album included? If so, ask to see a sample of the album. 17. Will you use my images in any advertising? 18. What will you and your second shooter wear? 19. What is your plan if you are ill or there is an emergency and you can’t photograph my wedding? 20. How much is the deposit? 21. When is the balance due? 22. What is your cancellation policy? 23. As with any vendor… PASSION. Does the photographer have it? If you ask them about their favorite part of their job, do their eyes light up? If you ask them to tell you about why they got into the industry, do they have a compelling story they love to tell? If they can’t tell you why they love their job, will they put passion into your Big Day? Probably not. Cheers! -My Big Day Events |
