Loveland Colorado’s 74th Valentine Season

Love is in the Air this Valentine’s Day as Loveland, Colorado
Launches 74th Valentine Season

Head to the city for the Sweetheart Festival, to get married, lock your love, enjoy hotel deals & more!

In Loveland, the nation’s Sweetheart City, valentine season starts now. Visit Loveland and partners have unveiled details and plans for the 74th year of the valentine program including the Sweetheart Festival, group wedding, valentine beer and coffee, love locks and the new valentine wine by Sweetheart Winery. All activities and events happen the first two weeks of February.

Loveland’s Second Love Lock Sculpture
Loveland has unveiled its second love lock sculpture which will sit in the Foundry Plaza downtown for six weeks, through the Sweetheart Festival, before moving to its permanent location along the south shore of Lake Loveland near the American flag and Statue of Liberty sculpture. The 12-foot-3-inch-tall, 14-foot-3-inch-wide steel sculpture is a simple, heart design created and constructed right in Loveland by Doug Rutledge, Beatty Construction Services and Loveland Ready Mix Concrete.
Love locks sell for $20 at the Loveland Visitors Center, or visitors can bring their own. Locks will also be for purchase during the Sweetheart Festival in the 4th Street Gallery. The love locks can be customized with a paint pen or hand carving to include names and dates of those locking their love.
Love locks are a symbol of love and commitment that has been inspired by an ancient custom, which is believed to have originated in China – where lovers lock a padlock on a chain or gate and then throw away the key, symbolically locking their love forever.

Spend Valentine’s Day at the free Loveland Sweetheart Festival Feb. 14-15, 2020.
Bring the family or your sweetheart for free fun including a Special Effects Laser Light Show, LIVE entertainment, Palace of Sweets, Kids Street with games and activities, Tunnel of Love, interactive art projects, Sweetheart Classic 4-miler and Little Miss Valentine and Little Mr. Cupid contest. The festival is an extension of Loveland’s 74+ year history in the nation’s Sweetheart City. The festival features something for everyone – families, couples, beer, wine and chocolate lovers, running lovers, art lovers and forever loves. Loveland’s Valentine’s Day Group Wedding
Friday, February 14, 4:30 p.m. in the Foundry Plaza
Say “I Do” in the land of love at Loveland’s Valentine’s Day Group Wedding. The wedding features a romantic, candlelit ceremony with music and readings voted on by wedding couples, a customized ceremony, keepsake photos, a love lock for the new love lock sculpture, gift bags, signature wedding cupcakes, and a chance to win a huge gift basket. Fun Fact: All marriage licenses that get issued from Loveland have a special “Sweetheart City” designation. Valentinesdayinloveland.com.

Valentine Hotel Packages
The Townplace Suites by Marriott – Loveland’s first downtown hotel – has a “Leave the key to your heart in Loveland” hotel package for valentine weekend. In addition to a one night’s stay in a luxurious suite and complimentary breakfast buffet, guests will receive a bottle of Champagne, a sweet treat, discounted movie tickets, and a love lock to place on Loveland’s two love lock sculptures.

Sylvan Dale Ranch Romantic Sweetheart Getaway packages include a one- or two-night bunk and breakfast package Feb. 14-16 in a cozy fireplace cabin at the ranch complete with a dinner for two, hearty ranch-style breakfasts and access to 3,000 acres of hiking trails, game courts, game room, and horseshoe pits. Trail rides will also be available by reservation weather depending.

We are already 9 days into February, so your lead time on making an romantic Valentine’s Day plans for you and your sweets is dwindling quickly!
Don’t worry, we at My Big Day have done the research and leg-work for you and have found some wonderfully romantic ideas for you to consider:

Door 222 food+drink
Celebrated as a delectable dining experience by Feasting Fort Collins, Door 222 offers hand-crafted tapas, dinners, and desserts in an upscale atmosphere in downtown Loveland. This year, in honor of the Sweetheart City’s holiday of Love, Door 222 is presenting a Valentine’s Day, 3-courses of Love. This special meal is $40 per guest with an optional wine pairing for an additional $15. The 3 course special will include a first course with your choice of New England Clam Chowder Soup, Steak Tartare, or a Spinach Salad. The second course includes choices of Braised Beef Short Ribs, Seared Scallops, or a locally crafted Mushroom Risotto. The third course includes a variety of desserts for you and your date to choose from.

Sounds like a tasty option for anyone out on the town on Valentine’s night!

Starlight Dessert Bar
One of our local favorite spots is the Starlight Dessert bar – Loveland’s Sweetest Spot! Known for their enticing desserts and tasty displays, Starlight will be offering a special Valentine’s Dinner this year on the holiday of Love! Parties of 2 can enjoy a 4 course meal for $38, or add some wine for a total of $66! The evening includes appetizer choices, a Strawberry Spinach Salad, three choices for your main dish – including stuffed chicken breasts or Beef Tenderloin in Red Wine Sauce served with roasted asparagus and parmesan risotto. And of course, there will be DESSERT! Starlight will be offering a delicious Raspberry Chocolate Blitz to their Valentine’s diners.
If you can’t make if for a dinner reservation, don’t forget that they have specialty treats and gifts for your Valentine as well – you can purchase a 12” Heart Message Cookie for your love!

Mo’ Betta Gumbo
If you are after a more relaxed and “down home” kind of vibe for your Valentine’s celebration, you should consider making reservations at Mo’Betta Gumbo. They bring a taste of the Southern Bayou to Northern Colorado in the best way! They have an extensive menu full of the Flavors of the South, including hush puppies, Chicken Gumbo, Po’ Boys, and Crawfish Etouffee! They also have an extensive bar stocked with specialized Moonshine Flavors and Mixers, as well as a variety of Mules and signature drinks.

You will want to make sure to stop by for an after dinner drink and some Beignets at the very least!!

A Creative Way to Celebrate Valentine's Day In Northern Colorado 2018

Valentine's Day 2018 is just days away... and you might be fretting over what to do this year to show your love for your one and only.

The My Big Day team has put together a list of our personal favorite ways to celebrate Valentine's Day. Feel free to borrow any of our ideas!

Christine:
Being an event planner, I start planning for holidays MONTHS OUT. A few of my favorite things...

1) Purchase matching Valentine outfits and a sweet book for my twin nieces and ship on Feb 1st!

2) Buy Valentine's for the neighbor kids and kiddos in my son's class for him to give (this year is chocolate covered pretzels and sweet little cards)

3) I get a BIG HEART for my parents from the Loveland Rotary (I make it a scavenger hunt) Look for "In love with you since '72 D+N" over by Lake Loveland!

4) I get a couple cards for my husband - one to hide in his work bag so he finds a little surprise, and another 1 or 2 to give at other times. I also gift him a sweet treat of some sort.

5) My Big Day sends out Valentine's to many of our clients and partners. We create them, stamp them, and send them out through the Valentine Re-Mailing Program in early February!

6) I send out Valentine's to family members through the Valentine Re-Mailing Program, and often send a handful of the Official Loveland Valentine's Cards that you can buy around the city.

7) My husband and I either cook a nice dinner at home, or go out to a local restaurant. A few of our favorites: Slate Italian Eatery, Starlight Dessert Bar, Taste Local, Fresh Plate Eatery, Bann Thai, the Himalayan Bistro, or Hearth.

8) Planning the Valentine's Day Group Wedding of course!

Lynzee:

My favorite way to spend Valentine’s Day is out on a trip discovering new places with my hubby! Sharing new experiences is a great way to bond!

Carrie:

As a parent of young children, getting time away to celebrate a holiday built on romance is difficult. I have found the best way is to include my two boys in the celebration. I usually prepare a candlelight dinner where the kids get to drink sparkling grape juice out of the "grown up" wine glasses, and we dine by candlelight. Sometimes we have super fancy chicken nuggets and mac and cheese - the main course is always chosen by the kiddos. Our schedules are always so busy so it's nice to have an evening to sit back with a special dinner together.

Heather:

We love to celebrate Valentines each year by going to Estes Park and go snow shoeing. We then head back to Fort Collins and eat dinner at Bisetti's. Then we go for a long stroll in old Town.

Kathy:

Valentine's Day has never been a big holiday for us to celebrate but it always gives us a reason to do a date night. We like to find a spot that is not a normal place for us or for others so we look for a hole in the wall place that is unique and cozy. This way we stay away from the crowds and we can have some quality time together. Celebrating each other and our love is something we try to do as often as we can. We love to stay connected and continue to build our relationship as we grow old together. We try to strengthen our marriage by remembering this scripture:

Katie:

Plan in advance... I love to make reservations at the Loveland Chophouse (4th Street) and get a nice steak dinner and fancy wine!

Randi:

My favorite way is to make a movie fort at home and watch old classics. We fill the fort with snacks and chocolates and roses. Add some cocoa and my loving partner.

Annual Valentine’s Day Group Wedding in the Sweetheart City

Colorado’s own Sweetheart City will once again be offering couples the chance to get married or renew their vows in a group celebration of love. This Valentine’s Day event will take place in the heart of the city, with the Foote Lagoon Amphitheater serving as a romantic backdrop at sunset. Couples will have the opportunity to declare their promise of love through wedding vows or renewed promises, officiated by local celebrity and K99 radio host, Todd Harding. Participants and guests will be serenaded by singer-songwriter and musical talent, Brandon Snipes. Vows will take place among rose petals and candlelight at sunset.

Check in for the event begins at 3:00 PM and will take place at the Loveland Library. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 PM at the Foot Lagoon Amphitheater.
