Sometimes, My Big Day wedding planners are brought in at the last minute, for “day of” only help. Other times, we are fortunate enough to work with a couple, crafting and creating THE perfect day from start to finish. While we are always happy to fill either role, crafting a couple’s dream wedding vision from start to finish is always a labor of love and considered a privilege. Craig & Catherine Harrison had a vision for their Big Day, and we had the privilege of making that dream come true during their September 16, 2017 ranch wedding. Craig and Catherine dreamed of celebrating with friends and family on their family owned ranch located just outside of Timnath, Colorado. Their expansive property was the perfect place to not only be wed to to each other, but to also combine their love of their new longhorn cattle herd operation and new show barn, with Catherine’s fondness of all things glamorous and shiny! Open pastures, bubbling brooks, and painted mountains provided the perfect backdrop for this dream wedding, and the newly constructed show barn offered the perfect spot for a festive cocktail hour and dancing. As wedding planners, we always have an eye for detail - small details and touches pack a punch and can pull everything together. Catherine was all about the details - from the feminine and soft floral arrangements hand picked and held in family heirloom vases, to the old books and picture frames, repurposed as barn decor. She pulled this vision of “high sophistication with a rustic flare” together with antique furniture, lace and tulle, wine barrels, and candlelight provided by sparkly votive jars. The floral arrangements that were placed throughout the ceremony site, barn, and dining tent were simply stunning. Our job of pulling all of the details together began early on September 16. Our team oversaw the set up the ceremony site and stage - complete with a hand made lectern provided by our groom, Craig. We worked closely with florist, Lace and Lillies as well as baker, Sarah B's Bakery, to place floral displays throughout the venue, as well as a delicious dessert bar, located in the barn. Caterers Juli y Juan, and their team worked to create flawless displays of tasty dishes, hand picked by the bride and groom for their guests. First look and pre-ceremony photos took place throughout the property, and were lovingly captured by Ash Meier Weddings and Arcadian Pictures. Once guests arrived, we really got to work, making sure all the moving parts of the beautiful ceremony took place. The groom and all of the attendants (all grown children and grandchildren of both Craig and Catherine) departed to the far end of the ranch property to gather in the little truck, purchased and remodeled for the wedding celebration. Catherine and her little flower girl waited up at the couple’s home, ready to be brought down to the ceremony site in a beautiful horse drawn carriage, fit for a princess. The timing was perfect, and it was almost like a scene from a movie - the little red truck carrying the wedding party drove over a picturesque bridge to the ceremony site, arriving just in time for Catherine to meet them in her horse drawn carriage. The ceremony was led by close friend, and match-maker Bill Warren, and guests watched as Craig and Catherine read their hand-written vows and exchanged rings. The acoustical music of the Jonathan Moody Band added the perfect romantic flare to the beautiful ceremony, set facing the setting mountain sun. Once the ceremony concluded, guests made their way to the show barn for a generous cocktail hour - complete with 3 bars! Dinner was served in an adjoining tent, with beautiful table decor, placed lovingly by the bride, Catherine, and Juli & Juan’s staff. Following dinner, the party really kicked off with dancing and drinking under the light of the evening stars, right outside of the the barn. Guests could kick up their heels dancing to the Jonathan Moody Band, or they could choose to mingle around the wine barrel tables inside of the barn, or out near the fire pit, where a Cigar Bar was set for guests to try out. The evening was full of fun, friends, family, and love! Craig and Catherine’s vision and dream was a success and perhaps, one of the most beautiful events we have had the pleasure of being a part of. We see many more parties and celebrations taking place in this beautiful spot, and we wish Craig and Catherine all the best as they begin their new life together!

This makes it the backdrop for planning a joyous wedding celebration. From cooler temperatures, to warm delicious drinks, to the transitioning colors of falling leaves—there are so many beautiful elements that go along with this season—all of which can provide inspiration for the wedding of a lifetime. To help with the planning process, here are some of the top wedding trends that go along well with this upcoming fall season. Inspiring Autumn Palettes Fall represents a distinct time of year often recognized by traditional color combinations to include red, yellow, orange, and brown. These are colors that are often also included into fall wedding décor. The great thing about these colors is that variations of these hues can also make for an even more spectacular wedding day. Colors such as chocolate, mustard, rust, gold, cognac, and plum are all awe-inspiring shades that can truly represent a couple’s personal aesthetic. With truly unlimited color options, there is no wonder why so many choose to celebrate their union in the fall. From lush autumn floral arrangements to lavish centerpieces with floral accents and greenery, these warm shades can provide the perfect palette for a very special wedding occasion. Maximized Use of Space Another trend for fall weddings is the maximized use of venue space. Today’s trendsetting brides and grooms are searching for new ways in which they can tap into the unused space that is left free of décor on their wedding day. From grandiose wall hangings, to elevated centerpieces with floral accents, to low hanging decorations like string lights from the ceiling, couples are finding creative ways to use all available space for weddings that are truly amazing. The maximized use of vertical space creates beautiful imagery and visual impact for a memorable experience. Using every inch of available space is a perfect way to celebrate the fall with wedding décor that will surely leave a great impression on all guests in attendance. Florals Straight from the Garden Another upcoming trend this fall is the use of rustic florals that appear to have been hand-picked straight from the garden. These wildflower arrangements include earthy, neutral, unexpected blooms for a wedding vibe that not only connects with nature, but is distinctly fall. For instance, traditional flowers like peonies, orchids, gardenias or roses can be paired with succulents, eucalyptus, and other greenery for an organic look and feel. What’s so unique about these bouquets and floral arrangements is that they do not have to look perfect to make a statement. The best natural arrangements will say so much about a couple’s personal taste and style. No matter if the wedding is traditional, romantic, dramatic, or outdoorsy, there is an organic floral combination for every personality type. When it comes to planning for your big day, consider any of these upcoming trends for an exciting fall wedding event. Autumn-themed color combinations, strategic use of vertical space, and garden-inspired bouquets are all at the top of the list for this year’s upcoming fall weddings. Couples can plan the wedding of their dreams by embracing these trendy autumn trends for the most memorable, heartfelt occasion. Authored by contributing writer, Shannon Lochwood.

In the case of Natalie's wedding, her family really just needed some help with logistics - specifically the cocktail hour, dinner buffet and cake cutting. While My Big Day is not a catering company, we will rise to any challenge, as our goal is to make your big day the best day of your life. We were happy to work with this lovely family and help them with their specific planning needs. This wedding was a beautiful barn wedding on the bride’s parent’s property. The ceremony was on their beautiful lawn and reception in the barn. As soon as we arrived we hit the ground running to make sure everything was in place and the food warming before the reception started. We had about 3 hours to set everything up. It was the perfect amount of time. The critical timing came in to play as soon as we opened the buffet. We made sure the food stayed full, we released tables smoothly so we didn’t over crowd the buffet and drinks were checked on as well. The real excitement came when it was time to tear down the buffet and make room for the dance floor. Right after we pulled all the food and moved the tables we had to pack up all the leftovers and start cutting cake simultaneously. We saved the top tier of the cake for the bride and groom so they would have that for their first anniversary. We cut up the bottom tier and served it along with the other 3 flavors. There were 4 flavors of cake. It was glorious! Once we were finished packing up all the food and cakes for the night, we made sure the place was clean and drinks were full. We had such a lovely time at this wedding. We got to do something we rarely handle and it was splendid. The mother of the bride was our contact and she was such a sweet lady. She was so very pleased with how we handled things and we couldn’t ask for a better client. This wedding was beautiful. The barn has seen many celebrations- this was the fifth child in this family to be married here. This barn is filled with love and happiness. The family home is in the middle of the country with a lovely mountain view. You couldn’t ask for a more picturesque country, barn wedding. It turned out to be beautiful fall day for this beautiful fall wedding in the country! Congratulations Paul & Natalie -The My Big Day Team Contact My Big Day Have Fun. Be Young. However, for parents of little children, it can also be a dreaded affair. From the moment they receive those gorgeous invitations, their minds immediately race to how they are going to keep the kids quiet and seated during the wedding or reception. Afterall, nobody wants to be THAT family who ruined your special day. We all know planning a wedding can be time consuming and stressful. There are a million things to accomplish on our to-do lists without compromising our work, family, friends, and relationships. Thankfully, while planning our ceremonies and receptions, there are simple steps and accommodations we can add to ensure our big days are successful and even the youngest guests are included and entertained. With a little luck and careful planning, we can keep everyone happy and enjoying the wedding. Scroll through the following 10 tips to include and entertain children during your wedding: Design wedding BINGO cards. It’s no secret that sitting quietly through wedding ceremonies can be tough for children. On a sheet of paper, create a BINGO game featuring people, items, and parts of the ceremony and hand copies out to the children as they enter. During the wedding, if children notice or find an item, they mark off the square. At the end of the ceremony they can hand in completed game sheets for a small prize. Give children a job. Kids love to help and are often eager to escape the confines of mom and dad’s watchful eyes. Give them a part in the wedding by assigning them a role in the wedding party, having them man the guest table, helping people carry gifts, ushering in family members, or passing out programs and bubbles to guests. Get colorful! Provide children crayons and coloring books that feature black and white versions of your favorite photos that show your love story. There are apps online or you can use a basic paint or photo program in a word program to transform images into black and white colorable prints. Be sure to include captions or interesting facts to add personality to the booklet. Encourage kids to “tag” their table at the reception. Channel a child’s inner artist and cover the kiddie table with butcher paper. Provide crayons, markers, or stickers to decorate the paper to occupy their interests until dinner is served. For added fun, consider supplying simple craft kits the kids can easily assemble on their own. Make them glow! Most children love glow-in-the-dark items. Purchase a variety of bracelets, balloons, necklaces, glow sticks, and more to light up the night or dance floor. Bring on the games! Encourage guests to mingle and interact by placing a variety of board or card games on a centrally located table. All guests, even children, can enjoy playing simple games between events or during the reception. For an added twist, rent or build large versions of classics like Jenga or Kerplunk. Provide kid approved snacks to curb their hunger until the meal or cake is served. There are often lulls between the ceremony, reception, cocktail hour, or dinner while the couple take pictures or travel to the venue. This can be hard on kids, especially hungry ones. Avoid meltdowns, by making sure there are snack mixes, veggie trays, meat or cracker platters, and drinks readily available to tide them over. Hand out swag bags filled with the couple’s favorite childhood items. Add a personal touch and a bit of nostalgia to the festivity by filling goodie bags with your favorite childhood candies, games, or trinkets. Children will love the gift bags and the guests will enjoy taking trip down memory lane with the bride and groom. Give kids a camera. Children love to take photographs and are eager to snap photos at the reception. You can purchase disposable cameras or use a hashtag so they can upload digital photos onto social media sites to help document the big night. For added creativity, provide a selfie station complete with props and backdrops. This is a great way to get one-of-a-kind shots and keep the kids entertained for hours. Consider providing a sitter. Give parents an opportunity to enjoy a kid-free evening by hiring a sitter to watch younger children in an adjacent room. The kids will be entertained and safely cared for, while your friends get a few minutes of adult time. Supply the babysitter with games, movies, snacks, inflatables, and activities to crank up the fun. How will you be including and entertaining children during your wedding?
