At Last! After two years of hiccups and postponements - one for Covid, and one for an unexpected Bundle of Joy, My Big Day Couple Kristin and Gary, finally said “I Do”!
Guests witnessed their vows and commitment to one another atop a mountain in the picturesque campus of the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Even though a pop-up thunderstorm threatened to dampen their ceremony, the happy couple didn’t even consider postponing their special day yet again. Kristin and Gary chose a beautiful palette of greens and blues that blended well with their mountain backdrop. Guests were served a wonderful assortment of appetizers and cool drinks before they dined on a delicious dinner of chicken and beef, provided by the YMCA’s culinary team. A Music Plus Entertainment got the crowd up on their feet in celebration on the dance floor, and guests were entertained by a slideshow of beautiful photos, displaying special moments from Kristin and Gary’s relationship. We were thrilled to be a part of this special day, centered around this precious little family. Congratulations to Kristin, Gary, and baby Zuri - may your new life together be full of many blessings and very few hiccups! Here are four reasons why you need a small business communications plan – and how My Big Day can help. What is a communications plan? A communications plan or strategy is a system through which businesses communicate news and marketing messaging within the company and externally. Internal communication may occur between colleagues, human resources staff, and company management. Information may be communicated externally to the public, news media, clients, suppliers, and other businesses. The goal of a communications plan is to ensure your business’s messaging remains consistent, no matter who is receiving information and from which representative of your company. Communications plans are designed to be proactive, but are absolutely necessary in a crisis. A communications plan may address not only what message should be broadcast, but through which channels (for example, that certain types of messaging should be communicated through email, over the phone, or via internal memos). Why do I need a communications plan for my small business? Company Image A standardized, professional method of communication with the public lends your business credibility. Consistent communication builds external trust in your business, and trust is paramount to success. It is important to know which message(s) you want to convey to specific target audiences, which is where marketing comes into play. Conflicting information released by different parties sporadically conveys an image of disorganization, which degrades trust. Having a unified communications strategy that everyone in the company is aware of prevents confused messaging. Crisis Management Some sort of reputation crisis, whether big or small, is inevitable during the life of your small business. It may be one disgruntled client or a newsworthy catastrophe that affects a wide audience’s perception. Either way, having a strategic communication plan in place will reduce uncertainty for you and present your company as a unified front under scrutiny. Community Relations Engaging with and supporting your community is essential to your business’s image. Your company’s public reputation is enhanced by giving back, including support of nonprofits, local initiatives, and other businesses. Staying abreast of industry happenings helps you make better business decisions, and positive relationships with other businesses build trust and mutual respect. Internal Business Objectives and Employee Morale Having everyone in your company on the same page is essential to efficient operations. Everyone in your company should understand their roles and tasks and have the information necessary to carry them out. Missing or inconsistent information frustrates employees and decreases performance. Trust, loyalty, and transparency are cultivated through a consistent internal communications plan between employees and management. How do I create a small business communications plan? Creating an effective small business communications plan requires knowledge of branding, measurable goals, target markets, media relations, communication channels, campaigns and events, and evaluation of measurable communication analytics. Executing a strategic communications plan is a big job, and most small businesses don’t have a marketing or PR professional in-house. Internal communications plans, particularly for small companies, can be managed by an owner, president, or manager. External communications are best managed by professionals trained in marketing or public relations. At My Big Day, we offer a long list of small business services, including strategic communications planning, in conjunction with:

We have had some wonderful submissions over the years! Below are some ideas for our future wedding couples when looking for the RIGHT WORDS! "The Gift," Pam Brown “In you are flowers and firelight, stars and songbirds, the scent of summer, the stillness just before dawn. I love you today, dressed in glory. I will love you always- dancing, singing, reading, making, planning, arguing. I will love you cantankerous, and tired, courageous and in terror, joyful, fearful and triumphant. I will love you through all weathers and all change. For all you are is precious to me. And every day I live with you and share your love is a gift to me.” "Slow Me Down, Lord!," Wilferd A. Peterson “Let me look upward into the branches of the towering oak and know that it is great and strong because it grew slowly and well. Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me to send my roots deep into the soil of nature’s enduring values that I may grow towards the stars of my greater destiny.” "New Beginnings," Barbara Crooker “May this be a day of new beginnings the sun, like a fragrant apple; the summer air, soft on your hands as the kiss of a child. May berries melt like honey on your tongue. May your heart rise in wonder at the clouds drifting across the sky. May the trails under your boots be covered in pine quills, let the leaves rain down like memories in the autumn of your heart. May the snow beneath your skis run as fast as watered silk, may the cold air kiss your cheeks, turn them red as summer's roses. May the rivers always flow with their unexpected beauty, the first freshets of snowmelt, the rush of early spring. May you always walk in gladness through whatever path or highway; may you always walk within the golden circle of your love.” "In One Another’s Souls," Rumi “The moment I heard my first love story I started looking for you, not knowing how useless that was. Lovers don’t meet somewhere along the way. They’re in one another’s souls all along.” "Now Touch The Air Softly," William Jay Smith “Now touch the air softly, step gently, one, two... I’ll love you ’till roses are robin’s-egg blue; I’ll love you till gravel is eaten for bread, And lemons are orange, and lavender’s red. Now touch the air softly, swing gently the broom. I’ll love you till windows are all of a room; And the table is laid, And the table is bare, And the ceiling reposes on bottomless air. I’ll love you ‘till heaven rips the stars from his coat, And the moon rows away in a glass-bottomed boat; And Orion steps down like a river below, And earth is ablaze, and the oceans aglow. So touch the air softly, and swing the broom high. We will dust the grey mountains, and sweep the blue sky: And I’ll love you as long as the furrow the plough, As however is ever, and ever is now.” "In Your Light I Learn How to Love," Rumi“ In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest, where no one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.” "I Saw Two Clouds at Morning," John G. C. Brainard“ I saw two clouds at morning, tinged by the rising sun, and in the dawn they floated on, and mingled into one; I thought that morning cloud was blest, it moved so sweetly to the west. I saw two summer currents flow smoothly to their meeting, and join their course, with silent force, in peace each other greeting; calm was their course through banks of green, while dimpling eddies played between. Such be your gentle motion, ‘till life’s last pulse shall beat; like summer’s beam and summer’s stream, float on in joy, to meet a calmer sea, where storms shall cease, a purer sky, where all is peace.” "Touched By An Angel," Maya Angelou“ We, unaccustomed to courage exiles from delight live coiled in shells of loneliness until love leaves its high holy temple and comes into our sight to liberate us into life. Love arrives and in its train come ecstasies old memories of pleasure ancient histories of pain. Yet if we are bold, love strikes away the chains of fear from our souls. We are weaned from our timidity In the flush of love's light we dare be brave And suddenly we see that love costs all we are and will ever be. Yet it is only love which sets us free.” "A Wedding Toast," James Bertolino “May your love be firm, And may your dream of a life together be a river between two shores by day bathed in sunlight, and by night illuminated from within. May the heron carry news of you to the heavens, and the salmon bring the sea’s blue grace. May your twin thoughts spiral upward like leafy vines, like fiddle strings in the wind, and be as noble as the Douglas fir. May you never find yourselves back to back without love pulling you around into each other’s arms.” "At Nightfall," Charles Hanson Towne “I need so much the quiet of your love After the day’s loud strife; I need your calm all other things above After the stress of life. I crave the haven that in your dear heart lies, After all toil is done; I need the star shine of your heavenly eyes, After the day’s great sun.” "It Was Said With Such Authority," Gary E. McCormick “I’ll give you the gist of what was said It was about love and the sayer said it had nothing to do with receiving He said love was all about giving plain and simple You could tell this guy walked the talk He made it clear you must love yourself before you can begin to love another The guy reminded me of that lover from Galilee” "Devoted," Lori Eberhai “My heart can be your home, my soul can be your refuge. You can turn to me when you are weak, you can call to me when the way is not clear. I will be your promise and your prayer, I will always be there, Constant and complete. Run to me, reach out for me, and I will love you in a unique and tender way. Bring your love to me, share your love with me, sing your love to me, and I will offer you peace, ease and comfort.” "The Privileged Lovers," Rumi “The moon has become a dancer at this festival of love. This dance of light, this sacred blessing, this divine love, beckons us to a world beyond, only lovers can see with their eyes of fiery passion. They are the chosen ones who have surrendered. Once they were particles of light, now they are the radiant sun. They have left behind the world of deceitful games. They are the privileged lovers who create a new world with their eyes of fiery passion.” "How Do I Love Thee?," Elizabeth Barrett Browning How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of being and ideal grace. I love thee to the level of every day's Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for right. I love thee purely, as they turn from praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death. "[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]," E.E. Cummings
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)i am never without it(anywhere i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling) i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart "Stardust," Lang Leav If you came to me with a face I have not seen, with a name I have never heard, I would still know you. Even if centuries separated us, I would still feel you. Somewhere between the sand and the stardust, through every collapse and creation, there is a pulse that echoes of you and I. When we leave this world, we give up all our possessions and our memories. Love is the only thing we take with us. It is all we carry from one life to the next. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Most people's fondest grade school memories involve boarding a bus, traveling off to explore someplace new. Field Trips feel like a day off school, a break, a chance to feel like a real human rather than just a kid. Most kids don't realize that field trips are a really an in-depth learning experience than regular day-to-day classroom moments. Studies and statics from all over the country have proven that field trips are more than just a day of fun. Social-Emotional Learning Experience Teaching students social-emotional traits and behaviors is often a complicated matter. Diverse classrooms with students from all different types of backgrounds and living situations make teaching things like self-awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making extremely difficult in the classroom set up. A study done by the University of Arkansas found that field trips give students “stronger critical-thinking skills” and that they, “exhibit increased historical empathy, display higher levels of tolerance, and have a greater taste for consuming art and culture.” Academic Improvement Many students learn best by visual and hands-on learning. The U.S. Travel Association conducted a study that revealed that “regardless of gender, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, youth who take educational trips have better grades (59 percent), higher graduation rates from high school (95%) and college (63%), and greater income (12% higher annually). In fact, 89% said educational trips had a positive, lasting impact on their education and career because the trips made them more engaged, intellectually curious and interested in and out of school.”[1] [1] https://www.neamb.com/work-life/how-field-trips-boost-students-lifelong-success Practical Knowledge Being stuck in a classroom day in and day out for the entire school year is not only a daunting thought, but it can often contribute to students feeling burnt out and detached from the real world. Getting out to see a museum, a farm, or even just the local library can help expand a student’s world and mind. “The best field trips can bring two seemingly unrelated worlds together.” Professional Development If you ask successful adults today about their field trip memories, chances are you will find a few who had an eye-opening field trip experience which helped to lead them to the career they are in today. Getting the chance to see a symphony, going to a construction site or a university can get students thinking about what they are passionate about and what they want to achieve in their adult lives. We wrote a blog for our friends at On the Rocks and wanted to share it here as well! Try the recipes below from two of our favorite regional partners – master alcohol deliverers Wilbur’s Total Beverage and vodka connoisseurs Spring44 Distilling. Mulled Wine from Wilbur’s Total Beverage Fun fact: This cold-weather classic drink dates back to the Roman Empire.
1. Combine ingredients. Add wine, orange slices, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, honey, and any add-ins to a large saucepan or slow cooker. Stir to combine. 2. Stovetop: Cook the mulled wine on medium-high heat until it just barely reaches a simmer (do not boil – you do not want to cook off the alcohol). Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours. Slow cooker: Heat on low for about an hour until hot, and then reduce heat to warm until ready to serve. 3. Using a fine mesh strainer, remove and discard the used orange slices and spices. Give the mulled wine a taste, and stir in extra sweetener if needed. 4. Serve warm in heatproof mugs, garnish with orange rounds, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. Spring 44’s Spiced Pear Martini A rich cocktail for a formal fall get-together, with pear, almond, and cardamom. To make, combine:
Grand Old Fashioned by Wilbur’s Total Beverage This version of the traditional, elegant drink incorporates subtle flavors like orange oil to balance bitter and sweet flavors.
Combine aromatic bitters, Grand Marnier, and whiskey in an old fashioned glass. Add large ice cube and stir until cold and well incorporated. Garnish with orange twist, expressing oils over glass rim. Boozy Chai from Spring44 Distilling The warm spices of chai evoke the coziness of fall: cardamom, clove, ginger, and black pepper. Booze it up with some Spring44 Vodka, add a splash of cream and you've created a sipping dessert. To make, combine:
Apple Bees Knees Cocktail A seasonal twist on a classic gin cocktail. For the honey syrup:
For the cocktail:
1. To make syrup, place water, honey, and rosemary in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes. Cool to room temperature before using. Remaining syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week. 2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add in, lemon juice, apple juice, and honey syrup. Shake to combine and strain into a glass. Garnish with rosemary and apple slices.
