Many people don’t realize it, but music plays a crucial part in your event. The band or DJ sets the mood for your special day so the importance of having a true professional is pivotal. To ensure you are getting a professional-- listen to referrals, go out and see the band play or at the very least conduct a phone interview. After you’ve listened to them, arm yourself with these questions to ask your DJ or band -- and you should be prepared to dance the night away. Below is My Big Day's helpful list of 26 questions you should be asking!
Looking for that needle in a haystack for your meeting or event? A good, affordable, flexible, centrally located venue is hard to find! My Big Day receives requests from friends, clients and complete strangers weekly to pass on our 'little known secret' venues. While we can't promise any of our favorite venues are secret, we can say that the places below do meet much of our commonly requested criteria. Check out our recommended venues in Northern Colorado below. And... to pull your event off without a hitch, consider hiring an event planner!
TIMELINE These are general guidelines to keep in mind concerning what needs to be done and when. You may be on a tighter deadline, or have luxurious amounts of time (lucky!). Generally, you should start planning three months in advance so your attendees can arrange their schedule, speakers can begin to prepare their presentations, and you can relax a bit. Every program is different, so adapt this timeline as needed. ORGANIZE MEETING NOTES AND MATERIALS AND REVIEW YOUR TIMELINES Once you’ve established the framework of your meeting and know its general requirements, you’re ready to contact hotels and discuss planning specifics. You’ll find it helpful to set up an organizer with sections for the various planning steps, so you can keep all the meeting information in one place. Some suggested section titles include: Schedules, Audiovisual equipment, Budget, Food and Beverage, Contacts, Recreation, Rooming list , Speakers, Ground transportation, Entertainment, Event communications, Spouse programs, Meeting room setups ,VIPs 3 TO 5 MONTHS OUT •Determine the objective of your meeting •Get your budget approved •Check calendar of events taking place near your desired venue to avoid conflicts •Book meeting site and necessary hotel rooms •Speak to Meetings Director or Sales Manager about menus and meeting room needs •Set up master account for meeting charges and determine who can sign for charges •Invite speakers and provide scope of desired presentation •Invite attendees •Make travel arrangements •Decide on any marketing needs; begin creative development AT LEAST ONE MONTH BEFORE EVENT •Confirm menus, room setups and supplies in writing with your Meetings Director •Reach out to speakers/vendors to check on their presentations (they’ll likely need urging) •Inform hotel of guest arrival time so front desk can be properly staffed •Order gifts and amenities •Order signs and printed materials •Introduce any marketing materials into market •Mail agenda and any brochures to attendees; suggest a dress code and arrival times Cont.... ---------------------------------------- For a full list of to do's, download our PDF below

We’ve all seen amazing images of beautiful people with the perfect setting and perfect lighting in a stunning shot. Pinterest has given us all sorts of ideas for creative photos, but how do you ensure you get the right professional for your BIG day? We have all the questions and tips for you to weed through the never-ending list of potential photographers and get the professional you deserve. Potential Wedding Photographer Questions:
1. What is your style of photography? Traditional, Artistic, Natural Light, Photojournalism, Illustrative, etc. 2. How many events have you shot in your career? 3. How did you get into Photography? (They should be able to give you a verbal resume) 4. Have you ever shot at our venue? If they haven’t, ask them to go do a site visit. 5. Do you bring in your own lighting? The answer should be a resounding, Yes! If they do not expect a detailed answer as to why they work without their own lighting. 6. How many events will you shoot on the day of our event? 7. Can I request certain images are taken at the wedding? If yes, ask how they will ensure to capture these images. 8. How many hours are included in your package? 9. How much does an additional hour of coverage cost? 10. Do you bring a second shooter? Depending on the event, a second shooter can be crucial to capture all the important moments. 11. How many images can I expect to see from my event? On average photographers take between 1,200 and 1,500 images at your event but that doesn’t mean you will see all of those! You can plan to see anywhere from 150 to 400 images from your event, depending on its length. 12. Do you have a limit to the amount of images you will edit? The answer to this should be “No”. 13. How long does it take to see the proofs from my wedding? 14. Do I receive a disc of images or do I have to order all prints through you? 15. How much are prints? 16. Is an album included? If so, ask to see a sample of the album. 17. Will you use my images in any advertising? 18. What will you and your second shooter wear? 19. What is your plan if you are ill or there is an emergency and you can’t photograph my wedding? 20. How much is the deposit? 21. When is the balance due? 22. What is your cancellation policy? 23. As with any vendor… PASSION. Does the photographer have it? If you ask them about their favorite part of their job, do their eyes light up? If you ask them to tell you about why they got into the industry, do they have a compelling story they love to tell? If they can’t tell you why they love their job, will they put passion into your Big Day? Probably not. Cheers! -My Big Day Events My Big Day follows a number of event sites and wedding blogs to keep up on the latest trends. One trend (or common theme) that just isn't going away is friend envy. If you've ever had a BIG DAY or life event centered around you, perhaps you have experienced this sad phenomenon. It's said that those closest to you can hurt you the most. We see this time and time again... someone gets engaged, has a baby, gets a work promotion, etc... and all of the sudden ONE of your friends acts out. They are rude, try to one-up you, ruin a surprise, or just spoil something for you. Who needs a friend like that?!? Not you. The photo below is the best visual I've seen in a while of a friend showing her lack of support for her 3 close girlfriends who all got engaged. Funny, yes. But also hurtful.
As an event planner for 16+ years, I've personally seen lots of bridesmaids gone bad, mothers who ruin surprises, family members who can't control themselves or set aside past issues for ONE day of celebrating their loved one/s, co-workers stealing thunder, exes showing up unannounced, the list goes on...
We even experience it as owners of a small business. There will always be people in your life who love and support you, and then there are the rare few who don't like to see you succeed. When you hire My Big Day Events, you are hiring your own, personal advocate. Our #1 job is to make your BIG DAY the most memorable day of your life, and to help buffer those with friend envy from ruining your moment. Cheers! -Christine Hiring a great caterer can help eliminate so much unnecessary event stress. The best team will help with some of the small, yet very important details. Often when considering a variety of caterers, people base their decision on one of two things: a sample tasting, or the price. Of course, there is so much more to consider outside of those two things. Ensure you get the best of the best by asking your potential caterer the following questions in your interview process.
