In search of the Great Pumpkin - Fall Fun in Northern Colorado

10/8/2020

It’s the perfect weekend to plan a trip to one of the many awesome NoCo farms and pumpkin patches in search of the great pumpkin!

Here’s a list of some of the most festive spots we have found:

1. The Bartels Farm, Fort Collins. Famous for their beautiful pumpkin patch, this is one of the most popular spots on our list. With plenty of activities and attractions, there will be something for everyone in the family to enjoy! Be prepared for large crowds (they have plenty of parking - we're talking an overflow parking lot with hundreds of vehicles) - so make sure to pack your mask for safety purposes! (Their website is under construction)
Picture
2. Osborn Farm, Loveland - This local favorite has lots of room to spread out, a great selection of pumpkins, and a friendly staff. There is a pond with fish, sheep and a new calf, honey from the farm, and great photo ops. Unfortunately, the corn maze and tractor rides are closed this year due to Covid. http://osborn.farm

3.  Anderson Farms, Erie - A favorite of many, Anderson Farms is big and has a lot of fun and entertaining attractions. Activities open during covid include the train, slides, corn maze, kids maze, tire "mountain," wagon ride, go-karts, playground, and petting zoo. Their website provides a  list Covid-19 precautions so you can feel safe attending with little ones. https://andersonfarms.com

4. Tigges Farm Produce and Pumpkin Patch- Activities and procedures are a bit different this year, due to Covid regulations, but you can still visit to browse for the perfect pumpkin, tasty Colorado grown chiles, and the gift shop has a variety of jellies, jams, gifts, carving kits & more! https://www.tiggesfarm.com/

5.  Fritzler Farm Park - Fritzler Farm will be open for select days through October. Popular with many families, as well as school and youth groups, reservations for your visit are encouraged. They offer a variety of corn mazes, games, a barrel train, pumpkin cannons, paintball galleries, and a Beer Garden for adults!  https://www.fritzlerfarmpark.com/fall-days

If you’re looking for more Halloween and Fall-inspired activities beyond the pumpkin patch, My Big Day partner and friend, Macaroni Kid,  has an extensive list of events and spots you should definitely check out! This extensive list of Pumpkin Patches, Fall Festivals, Corn Mazes & Haunted Spots covers all of Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Erie, and more!

New Fort Collins Old Town Bar & Restaurant Scene

9/9/2020

There might be a global pandemic wreaking havoc on economies world wide, but that isn’t stopping the growth and progress in Old Town Fort Collins. As restaurants and bars start the reopening process, there are four new establishments ready to jump into the mix. We’ve pooled together a list of the new Old Town bars and restaurants that you are going to want to make plans to check out once the pandemic is a thing of the past!

The Bar District

Located in what was once local favorite, The Drunken Monkey, The Bar District is a new entertainment concept that brings together four bars under one roof. Three of the bars are open concept - one a sports bar, another for cocktails and frozen drinks, and the third specializes in liquor infusions. A fourth bar is available to be rented out for private parties.
The newly renovated facility boasts of a stage, a dance floor, and an extensive patio - great for smaller covid-capacity numbers!

Brothers Bar & Grill

A Midwest chain that has taken over the former Old Chicago’s building, Brothers Bar & Grill serves tasty casual American cuisine in a party atmosphere!
After acquiring the building, chain owners got to work completely gutting and remodeling it into a space of their own. They added handmade woodworking elements to give the facility a new bar and English pub feel.

This neighborhood bar concept hosts daily drink specials, complete with personal pitchers of alcoholic concoctions. They also serve their famous $2 cheeseburger special on Tuesdays.
Brothers Bar & Grill offers Covid-Safe dining options with two patios - front and back of the house. Make plans to join your bros for drinks and eats here soon!

Rove & Element

This dual concept entertainment venue consists of an “elevated lunch and dinner restaurant” and an upscale nightclub and dance floor.
Located in what was formerly The Mainline, Rove & Element offer entertaining options for multiple fancies. The lower floor hosts Rove - a restaurant offering American style cuisine and drinks. Element is located upstairs. Element seeks to attract a more mature and sophisticated crowd, by offering VIP areas and bottle service.
This new venue will allow guests to make an evening of it, with both dinner and dancing!

Penrose Taphouse & Eatery

The newest business to open at The Exchange in Old Town is Penrose Taphouse & Eatery. Owned by the same group as DC Oakes, a brewery in south Fort Collins, Penrose Taphouse & Eatery sits on the south side of The Exchange. They offer a Colorado-inspired menu, DC Oakes brews, and a rotation of other local breweries.

Penrose Taphouse & Eatery is named after one of Colorado’s most well-known entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and historical figures - Spencer Penrose. The owners have tried to capture his spirit, work ethic, and sense of community in their facility.
Their location at The Exchange is perfect for patio Covid-Safe dining. They offer two patio options, and many family-friendly dining options and specials. This makes Penrose the perfect spot for a date night dinner or fun family outing!

Fundraising for The Family Center/La Familia

8/26/2020

Picture
One of our many passions is supporting local non-profits in our community. The Family Center/La Familia is an agency that is a vital resource in our community. We are proud to be their trusted partner in 3 core areas: Events, Marketing and Development.

As part of our development focus, we launched their "GROW" campaign, which is an effort to grow their monthly, continuous donors. This is the best way for a non-profit to predict what resources they can offer based on projected donations.

With the help of a couple strong community partners, our campaign has received $30,000 in just the first month as a way to kick-start our lofty $100,000 goal.  Below is the public statement made about this initiative.

Over the course of three months, Fort Collins Foothills Rotary helped raise $93,000 to benefit six local
organizations who are directly serving families impacted by the pandemic: Food Bank, Rescue Mission,
Neighbor to Neighbor, La Familia/The Family Center, Teaching Tree, and Putnam Elementary. This was in
cooperation with each organization's fundraising efforts and partnering with Community Foundation of
Northern Colorado.

We are SO thankful for the heart Foothills Rotary Club of Fort Collins has for Early Childhood Education.
Their 10k donation was a great kick-off to our GROW campaign, and a 20k donation from the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado is such a blessing.
We are filled with gratitude!

"With the generous contribution made by the Foothills Rotary Club of Fort Collins and the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado we will make the required concrete leveling of the preschool playground and install a long lasting and secure fence around it. This work has been desired for a long time and thanks to this funding it will be possible!"

COVID-19 RISK ASSESSMENT FOR FAMILY ACTIVITIES

6/24/2020

With COVID-19 numbers increasing in parts of the country, many of us with kids (My Big Day and “Loveland Drive-In” employees included) are wondering what we can do to keep our families entertained outside of the house and how safe those activities really are. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has updated information about the risk level of various activities. We are pleased that drive-in shows continue to be listed as one of the safest activities for families this summer.

See our COVID-19 risk assessment for family activities list below!
Picture
High-Risk Activities
(from “Covid 19 Risk Calculator,”  ABC News, updated June 19, 2020)

  • Yoga/workout classes/gym
Why:“Lots of sweaty strangers in an enclosed environment, what could go wrong? You’ll also be tempted to wipe sweat off your face, potentially touching your eyes and mouth area, making the risk even higher.”

  • Vacation
Why: Even if you “wear a mask and gloves in the airport and on the airplane, you take the first flight of the morning to avoid crowds and take advantage of overnight cleaning on the airplane, the airport isn’t crowded, and passengers on the plane are seated with empty seats between them,” the risk is high according to the article’s doctors. “You could do everything right, but at the end of the day you’re at the mercy of your fellow passengers’ health and hygiene.” There is also a risk that, if cases suddenly increase in your area of travel, you will not be able to return home for weeks or months.

  • Visiting grandparents
Why: It doesn’t matter if case numbers are low in your area, if you avoid staying in hotels, or if you have your entire family tested before the visit, “Grandparents are always going to be a higher risk population. And remember, you can test negative one day and contract the virus the next.”

  • Graduation/Independence Day/birthday party with 20 friends and family members
Why: The highest-risk activity on this list, it doesn’t matter if your invitees have been mostly staying home or come wearing masks – no one can wear a mask while eating or drinking, and adding alcohol into the mix makes people less likely to be vigilant. And, unless you have 40 bowls on hand and the time to individually dish out chips and salsa to each of your guests, there will be shared food handling involved.
Picture
Medium-Risk Activities

  • Dinner party with 3 or fewer friends
Why: Even if everyone washes their hands and has been following social distancing advice, your attendees won’t be able to wear masks while eating. You can make this activity slightly safer by eating outside, 6 feet apart, and using disposable (biodegradable, please!) dishes and cutlery.

  • Kids’ Summer Camp
Why: Campers should be kept in groups of 10 or less with no intermixing and as much outdoor time as possible. However, during hot summer months it is usually impossible to keep children outside at all times.

Picture
Low-Risk Activities

  • Camping
Why: If you maintain social distancing, eat only food you brought from home, wear masks whenever you are around other people and use hand sanitizer regularly, camping is a low risk activity.

  • Drive-in Movies/Concerts
Why: As long as cars are parked 6 feet apart, employees wear masks when interacting with customers, and you maintain your distance from others when outside of your car, drive-in shows are one of the safest out-of-the-house activities this summer. At the Loveland Drive-In, we go the extra mile with even more precautions:
  • By staggering our cars in a checkerboard pattern, we keep vehicles 10 feet apart rather than the required 6
  • Our employees monitor bathroom lines to be sure people are maintaining their distance from each other and that there are no more than 3 people in line at a time
  • We also regularly disinfect our restrooms with an aerosol spray for airborne germs and a bleach spray for solid surfaces like faucets and toilet handles

The Loveland Drive-In abides by the CDC’s advice on their latest “Deciding to Go Out”  information page (updated June 15, 2020):

  • Choose places where there is limited sharing of items and where any items that are shared are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses.  You can also choose to visit places that share, post, or announce that they have increased cleaning and disinfection to protect others from COVID-19.

  • Can you keep 6 feet of space between you and others? Will you be outdoors or indoors? Indoor spaces are more risky than outdoor spaces where it might be harder to keep people apart and there’s less ventilation. Choose outdoor activities and places where it’s easy to stay 6 feet apart, like parks and open-air facilities.

  • Use visual reminders—like signs, chair arrangements, markings on the floor, or arrows—to help remind you to keep your distance from others. (At the Loveland Drive-In, we have “X”s spray-painted on parking spaces in a checkerboard pattern to remind attendees not to park too close to others.)

  • Will I need to take public transportation to get to the activity? Public transit can put you in close contact with others. By nature, at a drive-in, you BYOV (bring your own vehicle)!

  • Before you go somewhere, call and ask what extra prevention strategies they are using, like requiring staff to wear cloth face coverings. Visit our FAQ  and Code of Conduct pages for the Loveland Drive-In to see some of the precautions we are taking to make sure your family stays safe!

There’s still time to join us for some low-risk family fun this summer!   Tickets available HERE!
