My Big Day is a BIG fan of any event that benefits people and businesses in multiple ways. Great Plates is one of those events. The Fort Collins Downtown Business Association puts on this event every year, and it's benefits are three-fold: - Restaurants receive business from potentially NEW customers that have never tried their restaurant before - Customers get to try these restaurants at a great, discounted price - The Food Bank of Larimer County benefits from this event, and in turn, raises enough money to serve thousands of meals! The only problem we have is that the event only lasts two weeks, and we don't have enough time to try each restaurant!
For more information on this event, visit DowntownFortCollins.com --- but don't wait too long! The event this year is from March 1-14, 2014. Three Loveland-based businesses have come together to create My Big Date Night, a package that includes dining, beer and spirit tasting and an overnight stay at one of three local hotels. "Loveland has been an art destination for years, but we also want people to realize it’s a wonderful Valentine’s Day destination,” said Christine Kovacs Forster, founder of My Big Day Events, LLC, an event planning company in Loveland. Ms. Forster, along with Mechelle Martz-Mayfield, owner of NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC, a brewery tour service, and Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, founder of HeidiTown.com, the place for Colorado festival and travel information, came together to create My Big Date Night.
The package is available on February 14th and 15th and again on February 21st and 22nd, with brewery tours available on Fridays and distillery tours available on Saturdays. Each package includes transportation, tasters at each stop and an overnight stay including dinner for two at La Quinta Inn, Best Western or Embassy Suites. “The prices vary depending on which hotel you choose,” said Martz-Mayfield. “Embassy Suites is offering a decadent meal just for this event, so a stay with them will be more expensive, however, all the versions are affordable at between $226 and $325. There’s even a $150 option with dinner and the brewery or distillery tour only, but our hope is that people will make a weekend out of it and will stay overnight.” Other package amenities include a gift bag stuffed with offers from local businesses and a cupcake at the end of the night from Be Sweet Cupcakes in downtown Loveland. “This is about fun and romance in the Sweetheart City,” said Kerr-Schlaefer. “It will be a memorable way for folks from across the Front Range to experience Loveland, and hopefully they will be inspired to come back to experience it again and again.” My Big Date Night is brought to you by My Big Day, LLC, NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC and HeidiTown.com, and has been endorsed by Visit Loveland. For more information on the subject matter of the press release call Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer at (970) 213-2354, email TheMayor@HeidiTown.com or go to ValentinesDayinLoveland.com. Hiring a great caterer can help eliminate so much unnecessary event stress. The best team will help with some of the small, yet very important details. Often when considering a variety of caterers, people base their decision on one of two things: a sample tasting, or the price. Of course, there is so much more to consider outside of those two things. Ensure you get the best of the best by asking your potential caterer the following questions in your interview process.
Have you seen this yet? Everyone is buzzing about it! Crest and Oral-B came up with a hilariously honest video demonstrating how kids feel about Halloween candy. The kids in this video were only told that they would be the first ones to try brand-new Halloween treats. What happens on film is pure magic! Most of us love the idea of handing out something healthy, or even creative to the little ones who knock on our door Halloween night. But the truth is, we don't want to be, "The Old Man who hands out the pennies," or the "Lady who give out hugs." Earning a title like that will surely result in an egged house. So, to be safe this year, I recommend sticking to the basics. Perhaps use this list as mentioned on the Today Show. Be the 'popular' house in the neighborhood! Gone are the days of traditional birthday cakes and wedding cakes from a box and frosting from a can. Today, over the top cakes and cupcakes are king! I, myself, become weak at the knees when someone udders 'chocolate chambord with raspberry' or 'chocolate ganache with caramel filling.' I'm a sucker for sweets, especially if they are small and pretty! Bite sized tasty treats have become so popular, I have started serving them at nearly every event I host! One of the bridal couples I am currently working with decided on cupcakes for their wedding. I recommended my local favorite, Play Cake Bakers. This couple couldn't decide on just one flavor, as Jen makes the most amazing cupcakes even MORE amazing! The couple narrowed down their dessert menu to 3 spectacular fall flavors: pumpkin spiced latte, chocolate stout with bacon crumbles, and apple pie. Mmm.... that sounds like Fall to me! Their guests are sure to remember the dessert portion of the evening! If you are planning an event in the near future... don't hesitate to jump on the cupcake bandwagon. This trend has been around for a while, but who knows how long of a shelf life it will have. Just be sure to do a taste test before serving to guests. You may have to taste 2 or 3... just to be sure they are good. You have my approval! |
