We know there are many families who will not be gathering together over the holidays this year. Even though families won't physically be together, there are still ways to honor special traditions and celebrate with one another, virtually! Here are some ideas to spruce up your family’s online celebrations this year:
If crazy dress up is not your style, use this gathering as an excuse to ditch the covid sweatpants and fix yourself up a bit!
Create a Christmas BINGO game, Christmas Pictionary, or a Christmas Scavenger Hunt. The possibilities are endless!
Wow! 2020 - what a year?! There aren’t quite enough words to describe all of the feelings, emotions, and happenings of this past year. We have a few new words and meanings to add to our vocabularies and vernacular - pandemic (not really new, but used more this past year than probably ever before), virtual, socially distanced, hybrid, and Zoom. As event planners, New Year’s Eve is typically the perfect excuse to throw an awesome party! This year we won’t be throwing any huge gatherings or celebrations. 2020 was quite a ride of ups and downs. But - we’ve survived and made it, and that is something worth celebrating! We’ve come up with an extensive list of ways to say good-bye to this dumpster-fire of a year, and welcome in 2021 - what we hope will be a year full of healing, health, and goodness!
However you choose to say goodbye to 2020 and welcome 2021, we at My Big Day Marketing & Events wish you all the best - health, happiness, and fortune in the New Year! Contact MBD Marketing & Events

Isolation and social distancing, while proven to help limit the spread of the virus, can also have long-term effects on individuals and society alike. One of the most visible social effects of this pandemic is the cancellation of many important milestone celebrations. This has been an issue that is at the forefront of our industry, but it has been felt far beyond. Milestones and events like weddings, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays, and funerals have all been impacted. Why celebrating and acknowledging milestones is important: Celebrating milestones is how we as a society commemorate the progression of life. These celebrations serve as a connection - with family and friends and beyond. Missing these events can prove to be more than disappointing - they can affect emotional and social development milestones as well, especially in children and youth. While one benefit of social distancing is more dedicated time with family, we miss out on the connections with others that contribute to our development and emotional well-being. Important milestones are visual and experiential representations of growth. Without them, we miss opportunities for growth. Practical solutions: Cancelling important events and milestones can be hard to process - not just for children and youth, but for everyone involved. Milestones are typically “once-in-a-lifetime” events. Processing the disappointment of losing these moments is extremely difficult. Some strategies that might help ease the pain of these missed milestones are:
Ideas and recommendations for celebrating during Covid: As experts in the event planning industry, we have been tasked with coming up with creative solutions for celebrating milestones during these unprecedented times. We have developed and discovered ways in which our clients can safely celebrate life’s most important events. Here are just a few examples of alternative celebration opportunities: Birthdays We’ve already highlighted a variety of ways in which you can help someone feel special on their covid birthday. Our blog “10 COVID-Safe Ways to Make Your Child’s Birthday Special” is full of great ideas that can be adapted to celebrate someone at any age! Graduations Graduations bring a feeling of pride for both graduates and their families. Cancelled graduation ceremonies are difficult to replace, but there are some alternative options that will still allow you to celebrate these great accomplishments!
Weddings If Covid has forced you to postpone your dream wedding and reception, why not consider the following as an alternative?
Anniversaries While anniversaries tend to be celebrated by just the couple alone, COVID restrictions can still make planning a fitting celebration difficult. There are a ton of special date night options that can be planned to mark this milestone, but here are a few ideas that go beyond ordering in dinner and a movie:
Funerals Funerals might just be the most difficult event to miss. Families and friends often need the closure and social support that a funeral provides. Social distancing guidelines and the nature of a funeral make it even more difficult to plan. While postponing may be a viable option, some families might not want to delay or prolong this part of the grieving process.
Social Entertainment Just because you can’t frequent your favorite bar or restaurant together, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some fun together while keeping safely apart!
When it comes to celebrating missed milestones, creativity provides limitless possibility. While we know that nothing will ever bring back the actual missed opportunities of these special moments, planning to intentionally acknowledge them is a good practice to adopt. Everyone deserves to celebrate these special times. If you would like help in planning a virtual milestone celebration, please reach out to our talented team of event planners and memory makers. We can help you plan an event that you and your family and friends will remember forever. Guests were transported back to a simpler time with specialized photobooth backdrops, food, and decor reminiscent of Ralphie’s childhood home in the 1950’s. The Marriott Fort Collins hosted us again and tables were decorated with kitchen colanders in honor of Mother Parker’s holiday culinary feats, Red Ryder BB guns, and of course, the famous “Fragile” Leg Lamps. The only thing missing was a bar serving large glasses of Ovaltine! (Note - there were three open bars for the guests to imbibe from!) The evening was full of fellowship between all the various bank branches, company recognitions and awards, and of course dancing! Music and emceeing was provided by our favorite entertainer - DJ Kaaos! Activities also included a costume contest, and door prize drawings for all of the table centerpieces. Blue Federal Credit Union is one of our favorite clients to work with, and we were once again pleased to be part of the planning for their always fun company holiday party! It’s likely you as a couple fit characteristics of more than one theme. Maybe you’re a little sultry but also have a sophisticated elegance about you? Your personalities might take you in one direction but your budget may take you in another. So where do you start? Which direction do you go in? Below are four tips to help you better choose the wedding theme that best suits who you are as a couple. Personality First thing’s first: what type of couple are you? Maybe you consider yourself to be outdoorsy and find yourselves camping and hiking on the weekends. If so, a rustic wedding might encompass your personalities! Do you love bright, bold colors and eccentric design? Then maybe a whimsical setting is just for you! Whichever it may be, go with a theme that will let your personalities shine and it will be sure to be a magical momentous event! Personal Style Your personal style can have a lot of say in the theme you choose as well. If you tend to go more of a classy route, than a traditional elegant tuxedo and ballroom gown would be the right choice for you. Or maybe it’s the look of suspenders with a bow tie paired with a lace fitted dress for that fits your fancy? Regardless of the look you choose, it is important to make sure you feel and look your best on your special day. If you’re not sure where to look first, ladies, we suggest you visit Azazie for inspiration. They have an abundance of styles and colors that will be sure to fit any theme you so desire! As for the gents, we recommend The Black Tux for your style inspiration. Their many styles of wedding suits and tuxedos will be sure to impress. They also have this helpful style guide that gives pointers for guys who, let’s face it, can use the help.

Sometimes, My Big Day wedding planners are brought in at the last minute, for “day of” only help. Other times, we are fortunate enough to work with a couple, crafting and creating THE perfect day from start to finish. While we are always happy to fill either role, crafting a couple’s dream wedding vision from start to finish is always a labor of love and considered a privilege. Craig & Catherine Harrison had a vision for their Big Day, and we had the privilege of making that dream come true! Craig and Catherine dreamed of celebrating with friends and family on their family owned ranch located just outside of Timnath, Colorado. Their expansive property was the perfect place to not only be wed to to each other, but to also combine their love of their new longhorn cattle herd operation and new show barn, with Catherine’s fondness of all things glamorous and shiny! Open pastures, bubbling brooks, and painted mountains provided the perfect backdrop for this dream wedding, and the newly constructed show barn offered the perfect spot for a festive cocktail hour and dancing. As wedding planners, we always have an eye for detail - small details and touches pack a punch and can pull everything together. Catherine was all about the details - from the feminine and soft floral arrangements hand picked and held in family heirloom vases, to the old books and picture frames, repurposed as barn decor. She pulled this vision of “high sophistication with a rustic flare” together with antique furniture, lace and tulle, wine barrels, and candlelight provided by sparkly votive jars. The floral arrangements that were placed throughout the ceremony site, barn, and dining tent were simply stunning. Our job of pulling all of the details together began early on September 16. Our team oversaw the set up the ceremony site and stage - complete with a hand made lectern provided by our groom, Craig. We worked closely with florist, Lace and Lillies as well as baker, Sarah B's Bakery, to place floral displays throughout the venue, as well as a delicious dessert bar, located in the barn. Caterers Juli y Juan, and their team worked to create flawless displays of tasty dishes, hand picked by the bride and groom for their guests. First look and pre-ceremony photos took place throughout the property, and were lovingly captured by Ash Meier Weddings and Arcadian Pictures. It was only fitting that the celebration of their marriage combined the love and support of their “close to home” families and friends with a “global flair”! The couple was actually married in a beautiful ceremony in Italy in early August. They chose Italy because Eric’s Mother is of Italian descent, and there was a long generational tradition of being married in a particular Italian church, graced with Frescas painted by world famous artist, Donatello. After traveling with family to celebrate their marriage in beautiful Italy, the couple continued the celebration of their love in a reception set on Brittany’s parents’ Timnath property. The location was simply stunning with mountain vistas to the west, fields and grasslands to the east, and a gem of a newly constructed barn in the middle that housed the cocktail reception kick off. The celebration started with cocktails and a delightful anti-pasta spread - catered by 3 Tomatoes from Denver in the gorgeous barn. This barn was not your typical farm barn. This barn - or, house, was constructed with rich finishes and beautiful accessories, and included a full service French-Country kitchen and Horseshoe Shaped Bar that could sit up to 15 people at a time! Guests were treated to delicious food and drink, and mingled with Brittany, Eric, and their families. After cocktail hour, the party moved to an expansive tent, decorated with gorgeous chandeliers, drapery, lights and stunning table decor - provided by Palmer Flowers of Fort Collins. Guests enjoyed more delicious food provided once again by 3 Tomatoes - luscious salads, roasted veggies, Ratatouille pasta, Lemon Glazed Chicken, and freshly sliced Prime Rib. Spirits were served table to table and at two beautifully decorated bars, located just outside of the tent. There were heartfelt toasts and dancing to live music provided by the Diamond Empire Band. Brittany, Eric, and all of their guests celebrated in beautiful style all evening long! This gorgeous event wouldn’t have been possible without the detailed vision provided by WhiteTine Interiors, Brittany and her mother, Renee. Eric and Brittany’s personalities were highlighted in all the special details, from photos fresh from their Italian dream wedding, to the little touches of Italy and all of their world travels, in the selections of food and other decor. My Big Day was honored to be part of this wonderful celebration of love! Their big day was relaxed, planned, and organized, and it allowed them to focus on this special time with their friends and family. A lot of Jamie & Elliott’s love story has taken place in the mountains of Colorado, so it was appropriate that they got to celebrate their love at a beautiful property in Breckenridge.
